Let's be clear Molly. Is Jesus then saying that the Kingdom was with him or was he saying that it is right in front you in power and authority and you cannot see it?

Which one matches the context and the setting and the consistent message in Luke?
This does not deny the application of "Christ in you" that was taking place in the transition of the ages in the transitional body of Christ. Nor does it deny the ongoing affect coming to the knowledge of God's love without condition. None of which however proves that the kingdom of God is limited to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Which is what imo some are imo trying to imply.

Hey Doug,

Quote:
What was it that ended? The Mosaic system of ritual sacrifices. That is what ended in 70 AD when Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed. And this was a fulfillment of Daniel 9:27:

And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease.
end quote.

Interesting, I thought that you were claiming that the Destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 did not fulfill scripture at all.
So apparently then you believe then that Daniel spoke about it but that Matthew 23 and 24 did not? This is an important one, I hope that you address it. Please do explain.

IMO semantics. God fulfilled his covenant by forgiving them!

The old covenant is inseparable from animal sacrifices and the levitical priesthood.
Common Doug. Surly you are not saying that that was not part of the old covenant and that it is still as it was!

Now the "Satan" card.

That imo is what people do when they do not desire to engage in productive exchanges of ideas.

And such cards are played, because there is no arguing against them. Rather they are buzz words designed to dismiss the ideas of another without actually attempting to engage in discussion.

Not going there and not doing that.
Next time it comes up I will not respond to it.

Thank you so much Molly for you question and your point which is well taken.

The problem is in its inherent limitation. It is also clear that this is not what Luke had in mind in this writing as is visible in Luke's recording of the numerous similar statements of Jesus. Which was the kingdom had then through Christ as a precursor of the things to come, had "come upon them".

The kingdom was never meant to be interpreted as something merely to be expressed in the inner workings of God as expressed in the firstfruits.

Blessings to you, Barry

Molly

Quote from: BarryThe problem is in its inherent limitation

I'm still confused.  How is that limiting?

The very first words out of Jesus' mouth as a preacher of the gospel were these--

14Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

15And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

--Mark 1

From G1451; to make near, that is, (reflexively) approach: - approach, be at hand, come (draw) near, be (come, draw) nigh.

So if you were standing next to Jesus and heard him preach those words, the kingdom would indeed be approaching you, drawing near to you, ready for you to enter.

What does he say? Repent!  Believe!

12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

So apparently then you believe then that Daniel spoke about it but that Matthew 23 and 24 did not? This is an important one, I hope that you address it. Please do explain.

Jesus referred to the temple's destruction when he said "there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down." [Mat. 24:2, Luk. 21:6]

Daniel said the sacrifices would end "in the midst of the week" which was the 70th week. It is the period in which Christ confirms the covenant with us, which is also called the gospel. Paul said it was preached to Abraham.

The last half-week is the "time times and a half" of Dan. 7:25 and 12:7, that extends to the end of the age, when all of the prophecies of Daniel are fulfilled. So there was a big portion of the 70th week left to be fulfilled, when sacrifices ceased in the first century.

The "time, times and a half" is half of "seven times" which is the final prophetic week of Dan. 9:24-27. Daniel's prophecy includes three sections, 7 weeks, 62 weeks, and 1 week, and they are all "seven times" where "times" takes different units in each section. These correspond to the last three of the "seven times" in Lev. 26. The first of the four periods of "seven times" was poured out on Israel in the captivity, Dan. 9:11. So the 70 weeks prophecy explains how Lev. 26 has been fulfilled.

In the last of the "seven times" is when God remembers his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It corresponds to the ministry of Jesus, which was the first half-week, plus the entire age of the church, the "time, times and a half," which is a symbolic period. There is only one ""time, times and a half" mentioned in prophecy, but it is obvious that it is one half of a prophetic week. Dan. 12:7 shows it must be the last half.

The new covenant says that God will write his law on our hearts. It is made with Israel and Judah, which in the NT is identified with "the circumcision made without hands."

Col. 2:11
In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

The covenant and promises made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, is distinct from the law, that came later.

Gal. 3:17
And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

The covenant dates from Abraham's time. Sacrifices, oblations, and the levitical priesthood began in the time of Moses. These are what ended in 70 AD when the temple was destroyed.

:cloud9: Barry, I'll get to your larger post later today, when I have more time, but at this time I'd like to point out that the kingdom of God, is not a place, or related to a place in front of anyone as if they had spiritual eyes, they could say, "there it is". But the kingdom of God is a NATURE, the nature of the One who possesses it, and those who by FAITH do possess it, that being, righteousness, peace, and joy.

Which is why the kingdom is WITHIN YOU, because it is the attributes of the King, if so be it you have acknowledged and accepted who the King is over your heart. Which is why I said earlier that the kingdom by necessity of the phrase, has a King ruling in it, else it is no kingdom, and that kingdom is within, if you have accepted His lordship over your heart.

Those that set themselves to be enemies of His Kingdom, also thought it was a literal Kingdom that was coming, that was manifested solely in an outward fashion, as in a "change of covenants". He Himself said that He came not to destroy it but to fulfill it, and it is fulfilled spiritually, by picking up your cross and following Him thru the compartments of the spiritual pattern, the tabernacle of Moses.

Looking ahead to the Holy of Holies and pronouncing yourself there by virtue of the fact you INTELLECTUALLY see it as the end working of the covenant which is WORKED IN YOU, is like the Israelites of their day proclaiming themselves a High Priest though they took it upon themselves thru the flesh and not the Spirit determination. Picking up your cross and following Him is the same in content, as the scripture, "Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." It REQUIRES something of the hearer, and that is to be a DOER.

It's faith/outer court, hope/inner court, and charity or love/Holy of Holies, IN THAT ORDER, and that middle one is Christ as Spirit, as the outpouring of the Holy Ghost, our covering. This is the pattern that He set down, which Hebrews 10 says is the pattern of heavenly things. And just like the High Priest of that day, if he was not "covered" properly, he was struck dead upon entrance, so too are those that think by TAKING THOUGHT alone of the carnal mind that they have entered in, have erred. It is the strange fire that the sons of Aaron presumed to take in, that cost them their lives. It was strange in that it was NOT of the fire that God had started. The HG comes upon us in this second step covering as tongues of fire, for this reason.

And so, if you are there by your confession, by virtue of your recognizing intellectually that the third compartment is representative of His love, or man is there but just hasn't had this "intellectual thought" yet that all happened in there by 70 AD, where are the greater works He said we would do in that day? Greater than His, that is. Blessings.....

His Kingdom and reign is through His Holy spirit. Kingdom and

 spirit is synomynous.

the spirit can draw nigh, be on and be in people!

Receive the Holy spirit...be baptized with the Holy spirit

[immersed in it] have it poured out upon flesh

take the contrary spirit..and notice it can possess..be in and

be cast out, can act as a veil[cover]

so, His Kingdom can be in the midst when in someone

amongst those without it, in the midst of someone when His

spirit sits on His throne in our body, be poured out ON us, rest

on us..fill us up[inside us] lead us

Rev 11;11  the spirit of life from God entered them and they

stood up on their feet, and terror struck those who saw them

Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them,

'"COME UP HERE" and they went up to heaven in a cloud

The tax-payers and harlots entered into the kingdom of

Heaven ahead of the Pharisee's and sadducees..because the

offspring of viper spirit in them sinned against the Holy Ghost.

The harlots repented and received the free gift of the spirit..in

this way they entered into the Kingdom[spirit] ahead of them.

Again...the kingdom is a spiritual kingdom...you can walk in the spirit, be led of the spirit, have the spirit on you and be filled of the spirit...therefore..it can be in your midst, surround you, be on you and in you[filled].

And not only this, it can function in individuals in different

ways, according to the will and purpose of God,

to the Glory of God. It can exhort, lead, heal, make alive, give discernment, wisdom, understanding, joy, peace and many other manifestations

God is a spirit..and those who worship Him must worship in

 spirit and truth

Quote from: DougJesus referred to the temple's destruction when he said "there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down." [Mat. 24:2, Luk. 21:6]

Yes, but interestingly, Jesus himself came as the old temple, the second Adam, the one who was ruled by death.  When he says, destroy this temple and I will raise it up in three days, the Pharisees think he is a terrorist who is threatening to destroy their temple.

John 2:19
Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

I need Cardinal's help with this lol, but what he has done is purified the old temple, perfected it, and changed it in the resurrection, such that God is able to enter it--this temple which is our bodies.  That is the kingdom of God.

1Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the LORD, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.

when we realize we can do nothing of ourselves,

or work out righteousness per our own hands[you have no life

in you,you must remain in me] Then the old Adam temple

falls..for it is a mix of good and evil...and a house divided

against itself can not stand...for a little leaven ferments the

whole...dead works through the law, the binding of all men in

disobediance/death brings this fall of a stone not left upon a

stone.

But when the spirit of Life/breath of God enters that fallen

temple..it is raised up by spirit and built up by spirit..and it is

eternal...for the kingdom of this world[fallen Adam] has become

the Kingdom of our Lord[last Adam/life giving spirit] It

resurrects/gives life/restores that which was lost. Reconciles

Several posts here are imo missing the actual point.

Just because there are people who do not know at this particular moment their king does not mean that he is not their king.
Just because there are people who are not living kingdom influenced lives does not mean that they are not in the kingdom.

This is why the kingdom of God, kingdom of heaven was a threat to the old covenant man.
This is why they were told to repent for the kingdom of God is at hand.

So many Christians are still stuck in the transition of the ages imo.

What you must do imo is explain how the kingdom coming could be a threat to the old covenant man of whom had then been entrusted with the oracles of God.

For if the kingdom did not displace them as old covenant creatures then they had nothing to worry about.
But rather, "every tree that does not bear fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire".
This is a threat that is not dependent upon their belief.

The old covenant did not end for the believer only. This is abundantly clear.
The kingdom of God is eternal.

This is clear from the remarks about the Holy Spirit. The HS as given at Pentecost was a token and down payment not the finality and thus not the conclusion as if a totality was in view. Another evidence that the people are stuck in the transition and thus cannot see the conclusion.

Cardinal. Your post is very hard to answer because it is imo all over the place taking different points from different places on how you feel about the whole matter. At least that is how I see it.

An example of this is the "greater works". The greater works that he was referring too are CLEARLY those that they did indeed do within the transition of the ages to usher in the new age. Those greater works were not done independently of Christ but rather as the traditional body of Christ.

It is an example of how things are imo getting turned around from their clear meanings and presented is evidence that the "end" did not come when it was said that it would come. And this, over and over and over and over again.

I do not view personal subjectivity of the scriptures as the equivalent of "spiritual thinking".

Nor does my letting go and letting God subtract from the fact that the kingdom is Universal.

This is a very good point.  "Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand."
Thus looking to and pointing to that which is accomplished in the transition of the ages as an ongoing system is circular in nature.

It pretends that the kingdom never did come when they said that it would come and looks to that which ushered in the kingdom as the definition of that kingdom.
Such ignores how and why the about to be kingdom was such a threat to the old covenant man. He was about to lose his soul unless he lost his soul as a firstfruit by taking up his cross and following Christ.

:cloud9: Really.......do you realize the baptism in water is for the repentance of sins, as in an outward show of what has happened inwardly, that of repentance, symbolic of being baptized into His death? And that Jesus told John, who didn't want to baptize him at first, that it was NECESSARY TO FULFILL ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Since you refuse to acknowledge that Hebrews 10 tells us that the tabernacle is the pattern of things in the heavenlies, I don't doubt you can't see the relevance of it to believers today. However, this repent not doctrine is NONSENSE. Are you going to take all these out as well?

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent , and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins (WATER), and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (FIRE)

Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted , that your sins may be blotted out , when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

Notice in Acts 3:19 that they said "that your sins may be blotted out;" not that they already WERE.

Acts 8:22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.

Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at ; but now commandeth all men every where to repent :

Acts 26:20 But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they (all men) should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.

Revelation 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen , and repent , and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Revelation 2:16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Revelation 2:21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.

Revelation 2:22 Behold , I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

Revelation 3:3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard , and hold fast , and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch , I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

Revelation 3:19 As many as I love , I rebuke and chasten : be zealous therefore, and repent.

Being zealous, I might add, is not sitting back and saying I have all I need, because He did it all. Blessings....

Yes really!
You cannot repent because the kingdom of God is coming. You can repent because it has come.
Really.

The axe is no longer laid to the root of the trees. Rather every tree that did not bear fruit has already been cut down and thrown into the fire.
That is why there is not tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the NJ who is the mother of us all.

What is at stake here is how we see the world around us and how we see people around us. That is at least in part what is at stake here.

And appealing to the transition of the ages proves only that such is what you see now, it does not prove that such has not been already accomplished.

:cloud9: Then the apostles were deceived because they were baptizing and seemed to be under the impression in Acts that repentance was necessary? And the Spirit in John in Revelation, He was wrong too about repentance?

Let me guess; they were only saying that because 70 AD hadn't come yet. As I recall, some of it was written in 90 AD, so that's one problem I see with that.

Additionally, New Jerusalem is spiritual, and she is only your mother, if you have been caught up into her, ie. born from above. But if you don't believe that the Kingdom comes WITHOUT observation, ie. IN YOU, then of course, you wouldn't believe that, either, right?

That however was in view that the kingdom would be fully present once the temple was destroyed in AD 70.

Also as previously mentioned which no one has tried to tackle yet to my knowledge, it was not preached to the globe as we see it today, only to the world in question.
Also we cannot repent in view of a coming kingdom. We can only change our minds in view of a present fully realized kingdom.

Questions for anyone about end times:
If the old covenant is the natural world and natural order then how is it that the Gentiles were said to have been:
Eph 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

How is it that Israel was not a stranger of the covenants of promise but the Gentiles were?

Were the Gentiles not part of the natural order of the cosmos?

That's an understatement.

Ok, let me get this straight. They preached repentance, the kingdom was at hand, but once it came, they didn't preach repentance anymore? So the ones that received the kingdom prior to 70 AD, really got nothing in your view, because the kingdom really wasn't there yet? Then that would make God a respecter of persons.

There is only one covenant in actuality, the second did not negate the first, it fulfills it spiritually and reveals it spiritually.

That however was in view that the kingdom would be fully present once the temple was destroyed in AD 70.

Also we cannot repent in view of a coming kingdom. We can only change our minds in view of a present fully realized kingdom.

Again, you've got the cart in front of the horse. Christ was the Head, and His kingdom which is His nature/Spirit, came SPIRITUALLY in the hearts of those that repented of their sins and received the HG, as the scriptures I posted above show.

It had nothing to do with whether or not an actual temple was still standing or not. He didn't preach, and the apostles didn't preach, "you can repent now, but you have to wait almost 40 years for it to take effect". That is ludicrous.

Additionally, you do know why they were called apostles and not disciples at a certain point, right? Because the "new" covenant church was built on the apostles and prophets, after the TEMPLE OF HIS BODY was rent and sanctified by His blood.

Which again, is the same pattern as the water baptism (likeness of His death) and then Spirit baptism (likeness of His glorified life/blood/life is in the blood).

The old temple destruction in 70 AD was not the beginning of anything, but the natural manifestation of what had ALREADY happened in the Spirit. Christ is the Head, and the body (natural flesh realm as well) can only do what it sees it's Head do, even if only thru the fleshly efforts of viewing thru a glass darkly. Blessings.....

There is only covenant in actuality, the second did not negate the first, it fulfills it spiritually and reveals it spiritually.

That however was in view that the kingdom would be fully present once the temple was destroyed in AD 70.
Hope that clarifies for you.

Clear as mud.

Also as previously mentioned which no one has tried to tackle yet to my knowledge, it was not preached to the globe as we see it today, only to the world in question.
Also we cannot repent in view of a coming kingdom. We can only change our minds in view of a present fully realized kingdom.

The old temple was not the beginning of anything, but the natural manifestation of what had ALREADY happened in the Spirit. Christ is the Head, and the body (natural flesh realm as well) can only do what it sees it's Head do, even if only thru the fleshly efforts of viewing thru a glass darkly. Blessings.....

Hbr 9:6 Now these things having been thus prepared, the priests go in continually into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the services;
Hbr 9:7 but into the second the high priest alone, once in the year, not without blood, which he offereth for himself, and for the errors of the people
Hbr 9:8 the Holy Spirit this signifying, that the way into the holy place hath not yet been made manifest, while the first tabernacle is yet standing
Hbr 9:9 which [is] a figure for the time present; according to which are offered both gifts and sacrifices that cannot, as touching the conscience, make the worshipper perfect,
Hbr 9:10 [being] only (with meats and drinks and divers washings) carnal ordinances, imposed until a time of reformation.
Hbr 9:11 But Christ having come a high priest of the good things to come,

The outer still stood while the temple still stood.

Hbr 8:13 In that he saith, A new [covenant] he hath made the first old. But that which is becoming old and waxeth aged is nigh unto vanishing away
What was about to vanish away and when?
