Maybe the bill must be signed before any cleaning takes place.
you mean he's holding the Gulf hostage?
Would that suprise you?

Only after a fall-out-tax bill is signed.
And only .gov-buddy sunglasses are sold.

As for the oil cleanup; my guess is whatever way it's will be done, Halliburton will earn from it.
And every other way will be lobbied against.

Just look at it in a very simple way. There is no need for high tech of any kind. No super tankers etc.
Clean up can start now. Every gallon is a gallon. Nice opportunitie for the unemployed to earn some extra cash.
And meanwhile scientists can discuss large scale cleaning methods and take over then.
But right now why not give thousaunds of unenployed people a bucket, fair wages and start right now.

I doubt they will listen. US coastguard is even to arrogant to listen to advise on how to efficiently use for example the sweeping arms they recieved. Because of that arriogance they are used at only 20% effiency. Well just, try to, read the short article.

Dutch consul slams US foot-dragging on oil spill
Published on : 10 June 2010 - 3:48pm

Three days after BP's Deepwater Horizon drilling platform exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, the Netherlands offered to help. Ships could have set about clearing the oil using Dutch sweeping arms, but the US government didn't take up the offer. Dutch Consul General Geert Visser in Houston told Radio Netherlands Worldwide he was disappointed.

The US response, says Mr Visser: "'Thanks for your help, but at the moment we can manage ourselves.' And that was it." He puts the reticence down to pride.

Late
Weeks later the pride was forgotten and the US came to the Dutch for help after all. "Almost a month later – a month too late, of course – Washington did make a request to send the sweeping arms to Houston in Texas," says Mr Visser. "They arrived in three 747s, ten days later. They were then transported to Louisiana to be mounted on ships."

US ships are now fitted with the arms and should be operational within a few days. Each pair of arms can clear around 20,000 tons of oil a day.

Experience
Mr Visser thinks Dutch experience with water management and dyke construction may have played a role in the change in US attitude. "They evidently realised that the Netherlands has superior equipment that can work quickly and efficiently."

The US also initially turned down another Dutch proposal. The Dutch knowledge institute Deltares and dredging company Van Oord put forward a plan to build a sand dyke stretching for dozens of kilometres within three weeks. And here too, Washington came round in the end.

Jones Act
Not only capricious US decision-making has made life difficult for the Dutch companies, but also protective US legislation. Consul General Geert Visser's pet hate is the Jones Act: "It means that Dutch ships, or whatever other ships not under a US flag, can't operate in US waters." According to the Jones Act, all goods in US waters have to be transported by US ships.

On Wednesday it was announced that oil company BP is increasing its capacity to capture the oil escaping from the leaking well in the Gulf of Mexico. The company has installed a cap over the well. From next week it hopes to increase the containment capacity from around 15,000 barrels a day to 28,000.

That's part of the link that doesn't work for you. Because of the same pride US coast guard refuses to listen on how exactly those arms should be used. Now the arms are only used for 5% of their capacity.

Turning them down in the first place--do you have any idea how bad that looks?  No thanks, we want the Gulf destroyed.

Gulf Fisherman On Oil Spill: 'Our Way Of Life Is Over. It's The End, The Apocalypse'
MATTHEW BROWN | 05/31/10 09:36 PM |

Meanwhile, the location of the spill couldn't be worse.

To the south lies an essential spawning ground for imperiled Atlantic bluefin tuna and sperm whales. To the east and west, coral reefs and the coastal fisheries of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Texas. And to the north, Louisiana's coastal marshes.

More than 125 miles of Louisiana coastline already have been hit with oil. "It's just killing us by degrees," said Tulane University ecologist Tom Sherry.

Not just then Gulf Molly. If that oil 'slips' in the ???? it will come to Europe.

????=huge transatlantic tide/stream/current. Not a clue how it's called. We call it "Gulf stream"  or "North-Atlantic Drift"

If Obama was real change he now would have been looking in all corners of the world how to get help.
But it seems to be against the US law to even let foreign crews/ships be in the Gulf.

He can suspend the Jones Act the way Bush did for Katrina.  Hard to believe Bush is suddenly looking like a genius in comparison.

Yes, you're right, once it hits the Gulf stream around the tip of Florida, it heads up the east coast, into the rich fishing grounds of the North Atlantic, and over to Europe.  Not just the oil, the however many millions of gallons of toxic chemicals they used as well. :sigh:

The Gulf right now and from the beginning was this perfect placid pool to clean it up way out to sea.  Oil floats if you don't sink it with dispersant.

It should have never reached the shores.  This falls on the executive office and no one else.  BP could not bring in this kind of help without the President's approval.  The American people need to understand this.

The world should demand he bring in every ship and technology available
to clean this up.  This is now becoming the world's problem.

ROTTERDAM (DUTCH PRESS AGENCY) - the Dutch contribution to the suppression of the oil calamity in the golf of Mexico is insufficiently exploited. The communication with the Americans goes laboriously and it is listened badly to the Dutch experts.

A zegsman of Rotterdamse Tuesday has confirmed a bulletin about that of radio the Netherlands world broadcasting to company Mariflex. At this moment seven Dutch in the United States give to recommendation concerning the use of six veegarmen that realm water state to the American coast guard have been provided. These can absorb each 240 barrels oil per hour.

But the American authorities lay down, the Dutch recommendation beside itself '', put a spokesman of Mariflex. , thus we that it is more malignant further of the source oil, clear because oil is there thicker think and therefore improve to absorb. '' The Americans beat this Council however as yet in wind. , that is best frustrating '', thus the Dutch company. , we have been nevertheless engaged because of our expertise. ''

Scarcely 5 per cent

Since the ships last week to the battle, but 10 barrels oil per day have gone have been clearred, scarcely 5 per cent of the capacity of the poor. , the operation a piece more effectively and more rapidly is possible gone if it would be listened there to the Dutch. ''
Also the American legislation limits the ships in their does and leave. Thus cannot ship with a larger rise capacity to be used at the operation because they do not sail under American flag.
According to Mariflex is possible, the clearing operation, still certain some months will last ''. The aid of the Netherlands followed on an American aid request at the European Commission.

BTW, anything skimmed off the Gulf gets dumped into landfill.  Right now BP is burning off the oil they are collecting at the site.

But the supertankers will allow the oil to be reused after it is separated from the water.  Therefore,...

Collected oil can be refined. It has be suggested to build very simple  refineries near the cost.
Get the water, animals, chemicals, etc out. Oh, I forgot paper towels  In a way they making it pure crude again.
Then it can be sold to regular refineries.
I think it's the way to go. Then at least so cash is made to pay for the cleaning. And it's better for the environment than burning and/or dumping it in a landfill.

Okaloosa defies Unified Command over East Pass plans

DESTIN — Okaloosa County isn't taking oil spill orders any more.

June 15, 2010 4:40 PM

County commissioners voted unanimously to give their emergency management team the power to take whatever action it deems necessary to prevent oil from the Deepwater Horizon spill from entering Choctawhatchee Bay through the East Pass.

Hundreds of tar balls wash up overnight -- read the latest update.

That means the team, led by Public Safety Director Dino Villani, can take whatever action it sees fit to protect the pass without having its plans approved by state or federal authorities.

Commission chairman Wayne Harris said he and his fellow commissioners made their unanimous decision knowing full well they could be prosecuted for it.

"We made the decision legislatively to break the laws if necessary. We will do whatever it takes to protect our county's waterways and we're prepared to go to jail to do it," he said.

That freed Villani to take several actions deemed important to further armor the Destin pass without waiting for authorization from the state Emergency Operations Center in Tallahassee and the unified spill command in Mobile.

Commissioners gave him the go-ahead to spend $200,000 to pay for an underwater "air curtain" designed to push oil up where it can be collected and $16,500 a day to operate and maintain it.

He has authority to, without a nod from the U.S. Coast Guard, deploy barges, weighted so that they'll sit low in the water across the entrance to the pass.

He is also authorized to look into a slip curtain, another underwater oil-catching device.

Though they now have the authority, both Villani and Okaloosa County Administrator Jim Curry said they will continue to work with the state and federal authorities to get their plans approved.

Curry said what the commissioners did Monday was "send a loud and clear message" to the Coast Guard, the state Department of Environmental Protection and others that Okaloosa County's permit requests should be acted on immediately.

The commission met in an emergency meeting alongside the Destin City Council. The two governing bodies confronted a full room of obviously frustrated people, many of whom advocated filling in the entrance of the pass to close it down completely.

It was agreed that filling in the pass was a bad idea that could have serious environmental impacts.

Jay Prothro, BP's representative for Okaloosa County, and two representatives of the Coast Guard were also present.

While Martha LaGuardia, a commander with the Coast Guard, argued that moving ideas and plans through the chain of command was the proper way to do things, Harris made it known the County Commission was tired of the often tedious and sometimes unproductive bureaucracy.

"We've played the game. We're done playing the game."

I think it actually might be good, Cardinal.  People are starting to take back their power.  So much power has accumulated in the executive branch over the past few decades that was never intended by the founders.  The power was to reside in the States and in the people.

Now we have one man who can declare  [illegal] war,  give lists of Americans to be killed, has his own private [executive branch] army, can keep the Gulf from being cleaned up by ignoring the problem and preventing international help, etc etc etc.

Maybe it's time for Change after all.
