QuotePaul was chosen in Christ before the disruption of the world. The others were not. So though Paul was killing christians he did it (according to him) innocently.
1Ti 1:13 "I, who formerly was a calumniator and a persecutor and an outrager: but I was shown mercy, seeing that I do it being ignorant, in unbelief."

No Tony surely  Not according to Paul, what He did was due to Lack of Knowledge...out of Ignorance

Innocent He wasnt.

One who is Innocent is One with out Guilt\clean.

If he was Innocent there would be no need of forgiveness nor Mercy,

Paul was shown Mercy because of His Ignorance  not because of His innocence, He was Blinded to Him who IS THE TRUTH, where PRIOR  he Lived after the Form Rom 2: 19-20.

QuoteI still see those born after the flesh persecuting those born of the Spirit despite the times we live in because both would exist throughout all generations.

Amen Kimmy

I see The Rod paul came with  were for those who again were falling away , back stepping to the Old system ,A firm WORD of Correction is the Sence...FOOLISH Galatians

Gal 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

Gal 3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Gal 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Gal 3:4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if [it be] yet in vain.

Gal 3:5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, [doeth he it] by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

The Rod of Correction , for those WHO would Be SONS and Heirs ,not Slaves....

But irrespective we suffer, for the carnal man will indeed Persecute those after the spirit, Those Yesterday , today and Tomorrow. :icon_flower:

Quote from: Tony N on January 01, 2009, 02:42:06 PMNo, dear friend, Satan did not impregnate their mothers. They are not literally the offspring of Satan.

Tony, I didn't say that Satan impregnated their mothers.  I said that's what someone who believes the serpent-seed doctrine (i.e. who read "children" literally) would say to you.  My point is that you do not take "children" literally.

Ignorantly does not mean innocently.

QuoteBefore Paul even believed he was already set for life eonian:
Act 13:48 "Now on hearing this, the nations rejoiced and glorified the word of the Lord, and they believe, whoever were set for life eonian."

It doesn't say that if they believe they would be set for life eonian.

So Paul was a wheat, a son of the kingdom, even before doing anything good or bad that God's grace may be remaining as a choice, not out of acts but of Him Who is calling.

But now you've changed your definition of wheat & tares to elect and non-elect.  Before you said "The sons of the wicked one make snares and do lawlessness" and Paul was doing lawlessness by killing Christians.  Your first definition was correct.  Jesus identified the sons of God and sons of Satan by their deeds.

  • John 8:39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. 40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. 41 Ye do the deeds of your father.

Jesus talks about good trees bringing forth good fruit and corrupt trees bringing forth corrupt fruit.  Each tree is identified by it's fruit.  Paul admits here to having been a corrupt tree, having the same nature and walking according to the same spirit as any tare.

  • Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

So what you're telling me is that the wheat & tares are not identified by their fruit, but by whether God has elected them, which no one can know who that is.  The wheat and tares in the parable were identified by their fruit when the fruit appeared.

Quote from: Fireinfolding on January 01, 2009, 05:45:39 PMLam 3:39 Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

It's all over the bible.  Here is one I like because it as the shortest synopsis I know of that shows what God is doing regarding sowing & reaping and that God's judgments are not torture, nor everlasting, so it shows UR.

  • Deuteronomy 32:35 To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste. 36 For the LORD shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants, when he seeth that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left. 37 And he shall say, Where are their gods, their rock in whom they trusted.

ETers often quote this first part of this passage "To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence" from Hebrews thinking it refutes UR without realizing what Deut says.

Happy New Year!

1Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?

2For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

3He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

6All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

8He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

9And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

10Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

11He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

--Isa 53

...who shall declare his generation?

--Isa 53

30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

31They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.

30 In the future, everyone

   will worship

    31 People not yet born

   will be told,

How does he circumcise the heart?  Does he drive a knife through a man's heart?  Does he impale a man on a rod of iron?

36Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

37Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

--Acts 2

"pricked"[in their heart]

G2660
κατανύσσω
katanussō

From G2596 and G3572; to pierce thoroughly, that is, (figuratively) to agitate violently ("sting to the quick"): - prick.

Our journey begins with faith, gradually changing us, as we hear his voice – until, we are in agreement with His Spirit:

"Tempered by the Spirit of fire and Grace!"

"My Son, despise not the chastening (pruning, correction, refining) of the Lord, nor faint when you are admonished (gently or sharply) of Him: for who the Lord loves He (not demons) chastens, and afflicts (disciplines) every son who He receives. If you endure chastening, God deals with you as sons; for what son is he who the Father chastens not?"

"But if you be without chastisement, of whom all are partakers, then, are you bastards (of questionable origins) and not sons?" (Hebrews 12:5-8).

Despite the truth, many continue to trample over others with their orthodox demonology that permeates all aspects of righteousness with a black cloud, and forms the language that becomes a prevailing attitude.

Many covet the Law of God, and desire Jesus Christ. But, when their heart/mind corrupts the purity, or perfection of; everything becomes defiled.

God's Word is "sharper than any two-edged sword" piercing through the darkest places of our lives; all the way down to the bone of our thoughts, intentions, and motives of the heart.

"True gold fears not the fire, as the oil fires the furnace!"

Proverbs 4:23
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.

Is that advice literal?  Yes, I think it is.

1 Listen, my sons, to a father's instruction;
       pay attention and gain understanding.

2 I give you sound learning,
       so do not forsake my teaching.

3 When I was a boy in my father's house,
       still tender, and an only child of my mother,

4 he taught me and said,
      "Lay hold of my words with all your heart;
       keep my commands and you will live.

5 Get wisdom, get understanding;
       do not forget my words or swerve from them.

6 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you;
       love her, and she will watch over you.

7 Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom.
       Though it cost all you have,  get understanding.

8 Esteem her, and she will exalt you;
       embrace her, and she will honor you.

9 She will set a garland of grace on your head
       and present you with a crown of splendor."

10 Listen, my son, accept what I say,
       and the years of your life will be many.

11 I guide you in the way of wisdom
       and lead you along straight paths.

12 When you walk, your steps will not be hampered;
       when you run, you will not stumble.

13 Hold on to instruction, do not let it go;
       guard it well, for it is your life.

14 Do not set foot on the path of the wicked
       or walk in the way of evil men.

15 Avoid it, do not travel on it;
       turn from it and go on your way.

16 For they cannot sleep till they do evil;
       they are robbed of slumber till they make someone fall.

17 They eat the bread of wickedness
       and drink the wine of violence.

18 The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn,
       shining ever brighter till the full light of day.

19 But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness;
       they do not know what makes them stumble.

20 My son, pay attention to what I say;
       listen closely to my words.

21 Do not let them out of your sight,
       keep them within your heart;

22 for they are life to those who find them
       and health to a man's whole body.

23 Above all else, guard your heart,
       for it is the wellspring of life.

24 Put away perversity from your mouth;
       keep corrupt talk far from your lips.

25 Let your eyes look straight ahead,
       fix your gaze directly before you.

26 Make level  paths for your feet
       and take only ways that are firm.

27 Do not swerve to the right or the left;
       keep your foot from evil.

--Prov 4

Or you could say that Paul is an example of why you can't harvest the wheat and the tares until they mature, otherwise you might pull out a future Paul--because you can't tell them apart until they mature.

I was sticking to Tony's interpretation in which a tare is a child of Satan which is anyone doing the works of Satan, so that would be Paul.  Jesus also identified tares that way.  Jesus said (paraphrasing) IF you were a child of Abraham you would DO the works of Abraham.  But you seek to kill me, so you are a child of the devil.  Hence, Paul was a child of the devil and a tare.

You can't tell the wheat from the tares until maturity.

Dear Molly, I'm sorry but I'm going to have to banish you to God's eternal torment of Joy and Peace for that statement.

They knew the darnel or tares were seeded with the wheat at the time of their planting and The lord said to let them grow together until they mature.

They knew they were darnel of tares before they matured. Right?

Now be banished to God's joy!

6And he made a porch of pillars; the length thereof was fifty cubits, and the breadth thereof thirty cubits: and the porch was before them: and the other pillars and the thick beam were before them.

7Then he made a porch for the throne where he might judge, even the porch of judgment: and it was covered with cedar from one side of the floor to the other.

8And his house where he dwelt had another court within the porch, which was of the like work. Solomon made also an house for Pharaoh's daughter, whom he had taken to wife, like unto this porch.

--1 Kings 7

So many porches.

The king has a porch for greeting people in front of his house, a porch for judgment, even a porch for his wife.

Why so many porches?

The porch defines the outer court of the temple.  It is here that Jesus always met with the Pharisees.  We never see him go inside.

23And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch.

24Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.

--John 10

He sits on the steps of the temple teaching them at twelve, and teaches there again as a man.

But, the day he ventures inside, he can hardly bear it--our Lord who walked among sinners and the unclean daily, was disgusted at what was going on inside the temple.

13 And said unto them, my house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

"den" [of thieves]

G4693
σπήλαιον

Neuter of a presumed derivation of σπέος speos (a grotto); a cavern; by implication a hiding place or resort: - cave, den.

It's a cave where those who would steal from the children of the kingdom --hide out.

What are they stealing?

13But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

14Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

15Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

--Mat 23

They steal peace, love, joy, happiness,fellowship, ---every good thing of God.

But, more than that---they steal the very kingdom itself.

You do realize that this "The Parable of the Tares" is often used by advocates of ceaseless torture for ever as proving that doctrine?  If the tares are wicked people who are only burnt up then what?  Annihilationism?

If the seeds and those springing up are in the world that is in you, which in a way it has to be, then there is not so much trouble in defense of the ultimate salvation of all.  The outer world in which is our bodies is as if it doesn't exist unless it is inside of us.  This is more than merely what is perceived by our senses.  The tree registers on the back of my eyeball upside down.  It is only perceived as a tree if my sould interprets it.  If I was a "ferral" child, never learned to talk or understand what I see, how much of a "tree" would it be to me.  I am dependant on others raising me in the human community for me to talk or even have a higher functioning rational thought.  The "eon" is said to be put in my heart by God (in Ecclesiastes) and "the end of the eon" can be understood as the something that happens to me when I die.  Yet, faithful to what Jesus said, it can't be limited to that.

I can't find reason to limit it to the end of the Mosaic Church and its being superceded by the Church of Jesus as is the full preterist interpretation, however valid that is in understanding Matthew 24.

And what is it He calls "my barn?"

There are people:  "a 'man' which sowed,"  then certain "'men' slept," ("his 'enemy'"--?) "'servants' of the householder," "reapers."  Then there is seed, both "ideal" or good grain and bad weeds or darnel, "false" wheat.  Why is there such a difference between men and seed?  How is it meant when Jesus says these are "sons of the kingdom" and "sons of the wicked."  That they are what makes up our conciousness or other people?  It seems in this context that those gathered and tied into bundles first are those who accept a message quickening them to a false identity or an identity short of coming out of Adam; like, "Who are you and what do you do?" is not answered according to the purpose of God.  People identifying as "gay" would be an example.  But what of someone identifying as Roman Catholic?"  Is it a matter of degrees?

This is about the most difficult parable to me and it is said immediately following the key to all the parables, "The Sower."  At least it's not in the other gospels.  It's the only thing in the Bible left that I'm aware of for which I have no clear Universal Reconciliation apology.

Certainly I'm warned not to be wicked or a snare, one causing others to stumble.

ScarletWren

hmmm, read something recently that indicated the wheat are/were never tares, but wheat with chaff that has to be removed.  I think I like that explanation.  Let's see, after seeing that, I remember that barley is easiest to get to the grain, the wheat has to be threshed to get to the good stuff, then you have the grapes which have to be crushed to get the wine.

Just something to think about.

Certainly I'm warned not to be wicked or a snare, one causing others to stumble.

Dear reFormer,
Happy New Year.
As far as "seed" goes . . .

You shall know them by their fruit. When the wheat seed comes to full fruited grain and the tares likewise you shall know them by their fruit.

The tares cannot produce good fruit and the wheat cannot produce bad fruit (tares fruit).

The only thing that can be done is to send in the reapers when the seeds have matured and cull out the tares from the wheat.

Another thing is that it is improper to change what God has said something is and make it something He did not say it is. If God said that the wheat are the sons of the kingdom and the tares are the sons of the wicked one.

Also, we know that this judging is not the end of the sons of the wicked one for they, in the future, will be reconciled, justified, saved, headed up in the Christ and God will be All in all. So there is no need to change the parable just so the ETers can't use it against us.
Just because God says He will save all mankind
does not necessarily mean He won't.
