Yeah, I think.  They've defiled their bread and he's taking their transgressions on himself.

There's some 400 years before Christ where there is not one word from God.  That's a long silence.

But barley cakes speak of the first fruits.

Mat 24:48  "But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming" (KJV)

Mat 24:48 "Now if that evil slave should be saying in his heart, 'Delaying is my lord,'" (Concordant Literal).

The story is not that the Lord has already come but that the Lord delayed His coming and so the evil slave thought he could get lazy. Then the Lord came when the slave didn't think He would.
Just because God says He will save all mankind
does not necessarily mean He won't.

MAY BE MORE OF FOOD FIGHTING  AT THE SUPPER  TABLE !  while Jesus in in the Midst [ the food] His Body]

45"Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time?

46It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.
47I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, 'My master is staying away a long time,'

49and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. 50The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of.

51He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Crazy?  :happy3: Not sure how to contrast that – but given the normality of the physical world these days, it must be spiritually true! :mblush:

Who is Jer? I was once a wounded traveler, but now, "what is mine, is yours; if you have need of it."

"A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho ...and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead."

"And by chance there came down a certain priest that way ...and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side."

"And likewise, a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him and passed by on the other side."

"But ...a certain Samaritan as he journeyed, came where he was ...and when he saw him, he had compassion on him."

Appears that Jesus was suggesting that the entire hierarchy, from the Levites to the self-exalted priests, were spiritually dead.

He also was indicating that charity (loving-kindness and mercy) is the mark of a true follower, as in:

"I desired mercy, not sacrifice."

The Samaritan not only went to him, bound up his wounds (with the pouring of oil and wine) and set him on his own beast, but also brought him to an inn, and took care of him. Now, that's going the extra mile...

"And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee."

I see the good Samaritan, as taking some of his own garment to cover, dress and bind up the wounds of the person who was in need.

Whereas, the robbers encircled the traveler, taking that which was not rightfully theirs - a mentality of only the strongest survive. And, the priest and Levite could care-less, "What is mine, is mine." Thus, do not cast your burden on them – for they judge by the law, and care not!

The traveler merely received all that he was given by the spirit of the possessor; the Lord of the manor, and occupant of the house next door.

I find it more than interesting - that Rahab was an Inn keeper who lived within the city (not outside the gates), and was called a harlot by the sun dialed religion of the day, simply because – her covering (veil) had been removed in order to serve others. And, going against the grain of societal expectations always costs, especially, if you go against the natural disposition.

However, Love is one of the main characteristics of our Lord, and it ought to be manifested by all those who aspire to be the sons of God. Serving as a guide for travelers.

"Love covers a great number of people; a multitude."

Indeed  :icon_flower: Tis a Matter of the HEART!

Molly

Quote from: PeacemakerI see the good Samaritan, as taking some of his own garment to cover, dress and bind up the wounds of the person who was in need.

When the samaritan covers the man with his own garment, he is acting as the agent of Christ--in the place of the kinsman redeemer.  He is, in fact, the anointed one.

8And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.

9And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.

14And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.

15Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city.

--Ruth 3

Molly

So--back to my original question--do we have a spirit or is it something extraneous which we acquire--

Jesus tells Nicodemus that the fact that he can see the kingdom of God is proof that he is born from above.

"Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him."
3In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.

--John 3

Then Jesus tells him that flesh can only give birth to flesh--it is Spirit which gives birth to spirit--

6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

So wouldn't that imply that we are not automatically born with a spirit?  (unless we are set apart in the womb).

But Jesus goes on to tell Nicodemus that seeing the kingdom is only the first step, additional things are needed to enter.

"I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.
