"Let no one be deluding himself. If anyone among you is presuming to be wise in this eon, let him become stupid, that he may be becoming wise, for the wisdom of this world is stupidity with God. For it is written, "He is clutching the wise in their craftiness." And again, The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are vain." (1 Corinthians 3:18-20)

Ecclesiastes 9:3
This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

I think the Hebrew and Greek words for spirit and breath are, as has been said, interpreted according to context. I think the breath of God that gives us life is by implication spirit, the power of life, action, and intelligence.

Who will be deducing from Him?

Wow it seems to me in some places the Concordant just went way out of their way to be obscure.

I agree that their language takes a little getting used to, but I think they've tried to get the best meaning of the text even if it ends up sounding strange to us sometimes.

That's why I try to use the Concordant more for reference. I just finished reading the CLV from Acts to Rev. I found it quite hard to read, but I am a slow reader and comprehender. :Peace2:

In John 20:22 "breathed" is "enephysessen", from en phusa, "to blow". Spirit is pneuma  :o)

:laughing7:   Yes it would seem the Spirit of truth has  a powerful    breath   , but not just contained to that one expression !   OH so much more than that !!!

:HeartThrob:    When Jesus shows Himself to His followers     and  when he breaths  on them     wow !!

John 20 19 When it was evening on the first day of the week, Jesus' ·followers [disciples] were together.

The doors were ·locked [shut], because they were afraid of ·the elders [the Jewish leaders; L the Jews]. Then Jesus came and stood right in the middle of them and said, "Peace be with you."

20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. His ·followers [disciples] ·were thrilled [rejoiced] when they saw the Lord.

21 Then Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father sent me, I now send you."

22 After he said this, he breathed on them [Gen. 2:7] and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven. If you ·don't forgive them [withhold forgiveness; L retain the sins of any; Matt. 16:19; 18:18], they are not forgiven."

we are given that same Holy Spirit  as a  guarantee  and seal of approval       to teach and   correct and comfort     and the power of being able to overcome the world     with Christ within us       , greater is He whom is in you than in the world !!

If you compare the other versions in the Interlinear Scripture Analyzer, I think you'll see that the Concordant Version actually makes more sense. See the attachment.

The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary definition of "deduce" is:

"to use logic or reason to form (a conclusion or opinion about something) : to decide (something) after thinking about the known facts"

  I find it difficult too!!

  Way to vague     for me

I actually love the expanded bible   , it has many    simple but  other comparisons  that add     to a study     in my opinion

and the references of course       :icon_flower:

A matter of opinion, certainly. :o)

Translation is about thoughts, as well as words. If you lose the flowing expression of thoughts in overpursuing the words, you lose meaning.

But I see what Micah wrote. Perhaps the Concordant is meant more for researching words than reading.

Tom

When I first switched from the King James to Young's Literal Translation, it seemed strange too, and then it was even stranger when I switched to the Concordant Version. But now I don't even think about the literal language, and I think it's a small sacrifice for the truth.

Tom

Micah, look up "spirit" in the Keyword Concordance at the end of your Concordant Literal New Testament, and see what it says. If you have the paperback without it, here's the PDF file.

"And at the fulfillment of the day of Pentecost they were all alike in the same place. And suddenly there came out of heaven a blare, even as of a violent, carrying blast, and it fills the whole house where they were sitting." (Acts 2:1,2)

I know there was some hesitance to accept this word before. So I include the definition again.

The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary definition of "blast" is:

"a mass of air that moves very quickly and forcefully"

eaglesway

I like to read any version with an interlinear open. I believe the Concordant is as flawed in places, as are they all, so I use them all as parralels and check the differences in interlinears and lexicons to see if I can iron out the wrinkles to my own satisfaction. I have seen several places where it seems to me the Concordant is a vessel of Knoch's theology rather than a translation (as are they all at one point or another because translators are theologically flawed).

I dont think blast works well across all usages of pneuma. For instance.

1 Cor 2:10 ,11

But God has revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God.

For what man knows the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God no man knows, but the Spirit of God.

Replace Spirit with blast, and I dont think it translates the thought at all.

eaglesway

To me, that is the test. How well the word chosen to represent the thought fits all usages and contexts.
