Grace in the Tanakh - "An Answer from Scripture for Dispensationalists"

Ellen Kavanaugh

Grace (G-d's mercy) was always present, it's not a newer church invention. G-d never changes; His mercy never changes, the Way of salvation never changes. Man has always understood that G-d is merciful and forgiving towards him; Yeshua did not introduce the concepts of mercy and salvation, He *fulfilled* the *ancient promises* of mercy and salvation.

Luke 1:69-72 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant.

This verse best shows that Yeshua was fulfilling a promise made to Israel. He wasn't introducing a new concept!

Before Messiah's office was fully understood, mercy and salvation were linked. Many dispensationalists act as if the "old testament" way of salvation was works, but thankfully, now we have Grace. But that is a false dichotomy --- G-d's grace was always present, since the very beginning. Below is a long list of such passages showing dependance on mercy --- never works!

2 Samuel 22:51 A tower of salvation is He to His king; and showeth mercy to His anointed, to David and to his seed, for evermore.

Psalms 13:5 (13 -6) But as for me, in Thy mercy do I trust; my heart shall rejoice in Thy salvation.

Psalms 69:13(69-14) But as for me, let my prayer be unto Thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time; O God, in the abundance of Thy mercy, answer me with the truth of Thy salvation.

Psalms 86:13 For great is Thy mercy toward me; and Thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest nether-world.

Psalms 98:3 He hath remembered His mercy and His faithfulness toward the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

Psalms 109:21 But Thou, O GOD the Lord, deal with me for Thy name's sake; because Thy mercy is good, deliver Thou me.

Psalms 109:26 Help me, O LORD my God; O save me according to Thy mercy;

Psalms 98:1 O sing unto the LORD a new song; for He hath done marvellous things; His right hand, and His holy arm, hath wrought salvation for Him.

Psalms 136:12 With a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm, for His mercy endureth for ever.

Romans 11:27 says "For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins."

There are many references in the Tanakh that G-d would remove their sins. *Their* sins, not just future generations who followed them, but their own.

Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD; though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded because of our transgressions, he was crushed because of our iniquities: the chastisement of our welfare was upon him, and with his stripes we were healed.

Jeremiah 31:34 and they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying: 'Know the LORD'; for they shall all know Me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.

Jeremiah 36:3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way, and I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.'

Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks are decreed upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sin, and to forgive iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal vision and prophet, and to anoint the most holy place.

Now, G-d made these promises not to the church, but to Israel --- centuries prior to Yeshua's coming. Can we usurp the promises and apply them only to the "new church program" the dispensationalists teach? What happens to those who came before Yeshua's atoning death? The implications, in denying that grace extends from and to the past is in effect say no one received salvation prior to Yeshua. Then we have problems with Abraham and Noah who were found righteous before YHVH (and therefore 'saved') before Yeshua came. Yeshua's blood pours back in time, it covers all the faithful. Yeshua was the means of G-d's promised salvation.

Romans 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God."

Thank you Molly for the lightofmashiach.org url... I went to it immediately as I wondered if there were some connection with Jews for Jesus with whom I have some history. I contributed toward their missionary endeavors after I attended a Jews for Jesus event in St. Paul, MN and later  I spent about 2 weeks in San Francisco--actually Daley City with a distant cousin (we share a great grandfather) Diane and her husband Hyam Cohen (died in 2009) who was on JFJ staff...headed up the Purple Pomegrenate Productions Dept.... in 1994.... Diane and I are "Gentiles" :)   I volunteered a couple of days in their main office and 1 day in Hyam's dept... JFJ were looking to hire an executive secretary (I qualified...but was not interested in moving to SF nor was I really still believing that Jesus would return on a mountain in Israel...   Oh my... your post and my subsequent search of lightofmashiach has brought back a ton of memories...)

and most important

I really appreciate the article on "grace"    "mercy"....   and, of course, the Scripture references have and will lead me to further "light" on end times ....  I've been thinking a bit about the two witnesses and because I've been greatly influenced by the principle "physical realities reveal spiritual truths" I am somewhat "playing" with the idea that the two witnesses are grace and truth  or mercy and truth...

By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God's command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.

--Heb 11:3

You cannot understand this without faith.  Do not ask me why.  There is so much evidence for God at this point in the hands of science and yet they persist in denying him.  Worse yet, they make fun of us who do not.   You can now prove the existence of God from known science, and still they will not accept it.

This has been a source of frustration to me for years.

I have to keep reminding myself--even though it makes no rational sense to me--you cannot understand this without faith.  The Bible tells us this, and it's true.

Given this, all prophecy in the Bible is also true.  And, also true, you cannot accept it without faith.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.

4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

--Heb 11

Molly, in the definition of science, they omit anything that is supernatural.
It must be testable, observable, and repeatable.
Creation cannot be proven scientifically but you are right that creation fits
the preponderance of evidence much more so than the alternative.
Evolution violates the laws of science on several points and is beginning to be more and more rejected by top scientists.
I am a 6 day creationist.
Bible students should realize that Jesus taught creation and I'm pretty sure he would know. :gimmefive:

Proof to us Micah but not proof to anyone that does not believe scripture.
The faith of non-believers/atheists is that everything came from nothing.
Whereas we know everything came from God

That's very true, thing is "they" just don't know as of yet, when "they" believe the truth will set them free. I love that  song...EVERYBODY OUGHTA KNOW, EVERYBODY OUGHTA KNOW, EVERYBODY OUGHTA  KNOW, WHO JESUS IS!  Yes sir everybody's gonna know. :dsunny:

This is the way I understand it.  There will be the great tribulation which is also known as the time of Jacob's trouble and which will be mainly directed at the Jews [for 3.5 years].  Some of the church will be protected during this time and some will go through tribulation also.  This is followed by the return of Christ, also known as the day of the Lord, and the rapture, and then God's wrath poured upon the world.  I think much of the confusion comes from not understanding that the great tribulation and the day of God's wrath [day of the Lord] are two different events.  This made it clearer to me, anyway.  But, I"m still working on it.

The Day of the Lord: The Wrath of God

By Rev. Roger Best

In both the Old and New Testaments we often read about "the day of the Lord," "the day of Christ," or even "that day," and frequently there is much confusion surrounding the meaning of these phrases. In this brief study we will take a close look at what the Bible is referring to when these terms are used, for they are of extreme importance to believers.

In 1 Thessalonians 5, Paul tells us that this day will come to the unbeliever as a "thief." His exhortation in verse 6 is to "be alert and sober," and in verse 4 he says that because the believer is "not in darkness" that day should not overtake him as a thief. The problem is that many believers today do not understand what the "day of the Lord" is and therefore do not know why they need to be alert.

The phrase "the day of the Lord" appears some twenty-one times in the Old Testament, and in all but a couple of instances it refers to a time yet future. For example: Joel 1:15, "Alas for the day! For the day of the Lord is near" and Zephaniah 1:14, "Near is the great day of the Lord." The same is true in the New Testament where the phrase "the day of the Lord" appears six times and speaks of a day yet future. 2 Peter 3:10 tells us that "the day of the Lord will come like a thief" sometime in the future. So as we examine these twenty-seven passages in the Bible containing the phrase "the day of the Lord," it is clear that it is speaking of a day yet future. In the New Testament we also have the phrase "the day of Christ" which appears three times -- all in the epistle to the Philippians. Each time it is used (1:6, 10 , 2:16) it is also clear that it is speaking of a future day. So from the context of these passages we can clearly determine that the "day of the Lord" is a day in the future. Remember, Paul said that if we are alert we will know when it has come (1 Thess. 5:4)!

Now it is important to understand what "the day of the Lord" really is and what will happen in this day. There are various opinions as to what it might be. Most pre-tribulationists believe it is the 7 year tribulation period or what the Bible speaks of as Daniel's seventieth week. John Walvoord in his book "The Rapture Question" (pp. 162-163) says, "The Day of the Lord as presented in the Old and New Testament includes rather than follows the tremendous events of the tribulation period. In a word, the Day of the Lord begins before the great tribulation." J. Dwight Pentecost in his book, "Things To Come" (p. 174) states, "The term the Day of the Lord, or that day, is not a term which applies to a twenty-four hour period, but rather the whole program of events, including the tribulation period, the second advent program, and the entire millennial age."

Let us examine these thoughts in light of Scripture. Joel 1:15 says the day of the Lord "will come as destruction from the Almighty." In Joel 2:2 the prophet describes it this way, "A day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness." Notice the description in Amos 5:20, "Will not the day of the Lord be darkness instead of light, even gloom with no brightness in it?" The prophecies of the day of the Lord in the Old Testament speak of it as a time of serious trouble and difficulty. The theme of the book of Joel is the day of the Lord, and many references are made to the terrible day it will be. Joel speaks of it in chapter 2 as "a great and awesome day." Zephaniah 1:14-15 says, "Near is the great day of the Lord, near and coming very quickly; listen, the day of the Lord! In it the warrior cries out bitterly. A day of wrath is that day, a day of trouble and distress, a day of destruction and desolation, a day of darkness and gloom a day of clouds and thick darkness." There are five Hebrew words in the Old Testament that are sometimes translated "wrath." In the Zephaniah passage above the word is "ebrah" which is a word that speaks of overwhelming fury. This particular meaning is the strongest of those words translated "wrath."

Take a look at what the Old Testament says will characterize the day of the Lord:

1. A day of Reckoning - Isa. 2:12

2. A day of Judgment - Isa. 2:13-17

3. A day Cruel, with Fury and Burning Anger - Isa. 13:9

4. A day of Destruction from the Almighty - Isa. 13:6; Joel 1:15

5. A day of Panic, Subjugation, and Confusion - Isa. 22:5

6. A day of Vengeance - Jer. 46:10

7. A day that Belongs to the Lord God of Hosts - Jer. 46:10

8. A day of Tumult - Eze. 7:7

9. A day of Doom - Eze. 7:10; 30:3

10. A day of Battle - Eze. 13:5; Zech. 14:3

11. A day of Clouds - Eze. 30:3

12. A day of Judgment for Egypt - Exe. 30:19

13. A day of Gloom and Darkness - Joel 2:2; Amos 5:18, 20; 8:9

14. A day that is Great and Awesome - Joel 2:11; 3:1

15. A day when the Sun and Moon grow dark - Joel 3:15

16. A day when Justice is Dealt Out - Obadiah 15

17. A day of Punishment - Zeph. 1:8

18. A day of the Lord's Anger - Zeph. 2:23

19. A day that is Unique - Zech. 14:7a

Looking at all the passages that deal with the day of the Lord in the Old Testament, it is clear that this is the time that God's Wrath will be poured out upon an unbelieving world sometime in the future.

In the New Testament Peter makes it clear what kind of a time the day of the Lord is, "But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, on account of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, which righteousness dwells" (2 Pet. 3:10-13). It is also a day of deliverance for the people of God, those who have been chosen before the foundation of the world -- the elect. Believers have the promise to be delivered from the wrath to come (see Romans 5:9; 1 Thess. 1:10, 5:9). In Luke 17 Jesus says that it will come as deliverance to the believer just as deliverance came to Noah and Lot. They were both rescued, Noah in the ark and Lot from the destruction of Sodom, and then destruction came upon the unaware and unprepared world. Note what Jesus says in 17:30, "It will be just the same on the day that the son of Man is revealed." We will be rescued in what we call the rapture, and then the day of the Lord's wrath will be poured out on this old world.

Let me share how Robert Van Kampen describes the day of the Lord in the glossary of The Sign; "Synonymous with the second coming (parousia) of Christ. Also called the "end of the age," the "final harvest," and the "seventh seal," which includes God's trumpet and bowl judgments and is culminated in the battle of Armageddon. The most prophesied event in the Old Testament concerning the last days, the day of the Lord is marked by God's fiery, judgmental wrath against the earth's wicked. The primary purpose of the day-of-the-Lord wrath will be to destroy the kingdom of darkness, giving specific attention to the final beast empire of Satan which will then dominate the world. It will begin on the same day that the Rapture occurs, cutting short the great tribulation by Antichrist, sometime during the second half of the seventieth week. It will be announced with a sign divinely displayed in the heavens. (see Sign of the End of the Age).

A secondary purpose of the day of the Lord will be to refine the third part of the nation of Israel who will survive the great tribulation by Antichrist, in preparation for the salvation of the surviving remnant of the nation (one tenth) after the seventieth week is complete thus completing the spiritual kingdom of God. If the day of the Lord did not cut short the great tribulation by Antichrist, none of God's elect, Jew or Gentile, would survive.

The day of the Lord's wrath is composed of two major parts. The first is the series of God's trumpet judgments against the earth's wicked, including unsaved Israel, that will occur while the seventieth week is in progress. The second part is the series of bowl judgments, "which are the last, because in them the wrath of God is finished." These will begin after the seventieth week is complete, after the surviving remnant of Israel is saved and the Lord has hidden them in Azel for protection. The day of the Lord will end at the climactic battle (or campaign) of Armageddon."

So this makes sense to ,me:

Great Tribulation [3.5 years]---->Day of the Lord begins with the 'rapture'----->the wrath of God--->new heavens and new earth--->millenium begins.

We are told we will suffer tribulation but we are also told we are not appointed to wrath, which is why we are removed on the day of the Lord, the second coming of Christ as the Lion of the tribe of Judah, also known as the day of the Lord's wrath.

1 Thessalonians 1:10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead--Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.

For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.--1 Thess 5:9

The Spirit on all Flesh

THE Prophet Joel, in foretelling the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the church at Pentecost, explained that "afterward" God's Spirit would be poured out upon all flesh. (Joel 2:28,29; Acts 2:17,18) The foretold pouring out of the Holy Spirit upon the Lord's servants and handmaidens and "afterward" upon "all flesh" is stated in the prophecy in the reverse order of the sequence in which it actually occurs. This was probably designed by the Lord to obscure the great truth of his future blessing for the world until the time neared for it to be realized.

In pouring out his Holy Spirit upon the church of this Gospel Age, God arranged that the first to be benefited were the Jewish believers at that time. Subsequently, it was also poured out upon the Gentiles who desired to be in harmony with and to serve God. The Scriptures indicate that this same sequence will be observed by the Lord in the pouring out of his Spirit upon all flesh. The first to have the opportunity to be blessed by his Holy Spirit will be the re-gathered Israelites in Palestine.—Ezek. 39:27-29

One of the important functions of the Holy Spirit during the Gospel Age has been to enlighten the Lord's people with respect to the will and ways of the Lord. The same will be true during the kingdom age, when a knowledge of the Lord will fill the earth as the waters cover the sea.—Isa. 11:9

During the Gospel Age the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit reaches the Lord's people through the prophets, the apostles, and our Lord Jesus, as their combined teachings have been made available through the written Word. So, during the Millennial Age, the influence of God's Spirit will reach the people through God's representatives, who will also be the representatives of the spiritual phase of the kingdom; namely, the Ancient Worthies.—Matt. 8:11; Micah 4:2

The Scriptures assure us that the Lord will, during the Millennial Age, communicate his truth to the people, and it will be by this means that they will have the opportunity to learn of and to serve him. (Zeph. 3:9) One of the symbols used to illustrate this thought is the opening of a book.—Isa. 29:18,24

The Holy Spirit of truth during the Gospel Age reveals the opportunity of entering into a covenant of sacrifice with the Lord. But the Millennial Age will not be an age of sacrifice. Then, beginning with Israel, the people will have the opportunity of entering into the New Covenant, a covenant in which the law of God will be written in their hearts and in their inward parts. (Jer. 31:31-34) When all the willing and obedient shall have entered fully into this New Covenant, the teaching of the Lord will no longer be necessary, for all shall then know him, whom to know properly, and to obey, will mean life eternal.

One of the witnesses, or evidences of possessing the Holy Spirit now, is the persecution which comes to those who let their light shine. But this will not be true in the Millennium. Then the righteous will flourish, and the Lord will take away the rebuke of his people from off the whole earth.—Ps. 72:7; Isa. 25:8

And a warning about the deception... :upset:

A NEW Anointing- Pentecost

the spirit being poured out on ALL Flesh

How will this all this be accomplished? It will not be reached by dialogue alone there must be a spiritual counterpart, a spiritual mechanism to this unity. A NEW PENTECOST, an experience all can share in. In 1966, the Pope prayed to the Holy Spirit for the success of the Ecumenical Council, Vatican II: "Renew Thy wonders in our day, as by a new Pentecost. Grant to Thy Church that, being of one mind and steadfast in prayer with Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and following the lead of blessed Peter, it may advance the reign of our Divine Savior, the reign of truth and justice, the reign of love and peace. Amen."

Considering that the Pope was known as the great ecumenist (the new will continue to this goal) to bring religions in unity by interfaith dialogue meetings (The Pope had 7 global prayer meetings united with the various different religions.) The charismatic renewal was supposedly the result of an outpouring that brought the two opposing parties in Christiandom together. In the mid 60s, when the NEW Pentecost had spread, Leon Cardinal Suenens said, "The drive toward unity among Christians seems irreversible; we may hope that the hour is not far off. . . . We are permitted to be confident with hope founded in God and in the progress of theology that the third millennium will see the restoration of full unity and full communion."

This new outpouring is global in its effect today. It has resulted in a "progress of theology." promoted by the Latter Rain movement and other aberrations. Since this NEW Pentecost has spread, the walls have come down in the denominations and new associations with Rome were birthed; but there is more to this unity than just Rome.

Where is this going? To unify with all religions. So many are already saying that God is pouring out his spirit on all flesh, it is the same God and His Spirit that is bringing us into unity with all people of all faiths. This is a counterfeit outpouring that has nothing to do with the real one that will take place in the tribulation period. Just as the false Christ comes before the true one, a false peace, unity and worship will also take place. But to make this work there must be a false outpouring that will lead the world into its false sense of security and peace.

New Ager Barbara Hubbard wrote about the Teaching from the Inner Christ, and summarizes what many in the new age movement have been "feeling" how the human race will soon experience a day of 'Planetary Pentecost.' Hubbard's 'Christ, communicated to her 'the Planetary Smile is another name for the Planetary Pentecost. When enough of us share a common thought [paradigm shift) of our oneness with God, Spirit will be poured out on all flesh paying attention' (p. 79).

The new age Christ revealed a "Planetary Pentecost" to Barbara Marx Hubbard where there is to be a "quantum leap" in the evolution of mankind: "At the moment of cosmic contact, I will appear to you both through inner experience and through external communication on your mass media."

This is the very way Maitreya (the new age Christ figure) has claimed he would be made known to the world—it's called the EMERGENCE. With the spiritual landscape changing in the world and the church it sets the stage for the unveiling. As the religions unite in the their common beliefs and goals, essentially a new spirituality emerges.

Yes, there us a plan unfolding that is not known to many, but some are aware of the goal and are working towards it. "Co-operation is another word for Unity. Unity and co-operation are the springboards to the future and the guarantee of achievement for all men. Great reservoirs of power lie untapped within humanity, waiting for the magic of co-operation to unleash. (The Master--)

"My friends, I am here with you to show you the way to Peace, which is the way to God" (Message No. 135 February 2nd 1982). Here Maitreya says to make peace brings one to God. Maitreya says if we will accept His advice then we are on the threshold of an era of peace and goodwill. Interestingly Maitreya claims " I am the Prince of Peace... I am in your hearts as love... By pure love man will achieve... By my help all shall be achieved" (Message No. 100)

Whether its Maitreya or another saying this, it is all the same – they are working toward the same goal. All are working to present a united front against the evils of the world. They believe in unity of all who name the name of Christ-regardless of doctrine or practice. This has allowed for non-offensive elements of Scripture to remain, while eliminating the most essential doctrines of the Faith for the sake of unity. And the unity they seek is not just with other professing Christians, but with members of all faiths.

In 1991 The Inter-Religious Federation for World Peace (IRFWP) brought the resources of all the world's religions --their sacred teachings, practices, beliefs, and rituals-- to bear on this goal of world peace.

New age promoter Teilhard de Chardin had recognized "surely the solution for which modern mankind is seeking must essentially be exactly the solution which I have come upon.... A general convergence of religions upon a universal Christ who fundamentally satisfies them all: that seems to me the only possible conversion of the world, and the only form, in which a religion of the future can be conceived. (How I Believe, Teilhard de Chardin p.85)

Those who have experienced this new paradigm, which is an influence of "the spirit poured out on all flesh" become filled with a mission. At the same time they become blind to the truth and are zealous for the lie. Becoming emissaries for the new paradigm, they now have a purpose and mission in life, convinced that it is God behind it.

".... Dr. Philip Potter, WCC General Secretary, quoted from a 1969 WCC Central Committee directive as follows: "We call upon the churches to move beyond charity, grants and traditional programming to relevant and sacrificial action leading to new relationships of dignity and justice among all men and to become THE AGENTS FOR THE RADICAL RECONSTRUCTION OF SOCIETY." The term agents of change would be more apropos. The New age agenda is to bring transformation using terms and words that many are unacquainted with so they will accept the concepts and practices of the new age movement.

"Men and women of faith are a strong influence on group and individual conduct. As teachers and guides, you can be powerful agents for change. You can inspire people to new levels of commitment and public service. You can help bridge the chasm of ignorance, fear and misunderstanding. You can set an example of interfaith dialogue and cooperation." (Kofi Annan http://interfaithchristian.org/)

Here we have the mention of change agents coming from the head of the UN, its intent is to unite.

The "agents of change" are in every sector of our society and we need to be aware of their procedures and goals. Their influence becomes very evident in the spiritual arena especially when it enters the church; for the church has not entertained the same goals or methods they have, until recently.

The new age movement has their agents of transformational change throughout society. There are also change agents assigned to transform churches from within. Rick Warren as well as others in this new paradigm call pastors/leaders "change agents." It should become evident what this means when we hear Rick Warren who has one of the largest churches define it. His pastor-training program welcomes Catholics, Methodists, Mormons, Jews and ordained women. "I'm not going to get into a debate over the non-essentials. I won't try to change other denominations. Why be divisive?" ("This evangelist has a 'Purpose," by Cathy Lynn Grossman, USA TODAY, 7/21/2003)

Are Catholics, Jews and Mormons other denominations- or are they other religions? Here is the subtle change of terms when religions are called denominations and then we are told not let denominational differences divide us. By subtlety these new concepts are introduce into the church. They move us over into a new paradigm, of which unity is an essential component.

To bring about this change Biblical terms need to be redefined. The idea is synergy (a new age term), it is being used to combine that of the past with that of the future into our present. Those who run with the vision believe this synergism will effect "increase." Anyone who opposes the mega mentality are often identified as resistors to the change that is coming over this whole planet (which includes the portion of the church that has experienced the paradigm along with others). those that do not want to go along with the changes are identified as those who hold onto traditions that are passé.

There are many who have become change agents inside the church that are willing to accept a more lenient and more view Tony Campolo spoke in May of 1988 at the National Counsel of Churches gathering; it was reported that his message suggested that standing firm on absolutes and vehemently resisting error were tantamount to "doing the devil's work." He said that Hindu pacifist Ghandi "was more Christian than most Christians."

Can a man who rejected Christ be more Christian than those who are Christian? Obviously Campolo's definition may be different from Scripture. Tony Campolo agrees with the New Age concept that Christ mystically indwells every human being. "We want to convince the whole human race that there is a God who established the infinite value of every person, who mystically dwells in each person....(Anthony Campolo a Reasonable Faith Responding to Secularism p.59).

Campolo had praised Catholic nun Mother Teresa. (Reported in The Christian World Report, August 1990.) Ecumenists will often use Mother Teresa as an example of living out the Christian faith. She is the supreme example of doing good works that a Christian ecumenist can find. Yet they disregard her doctrine about the gospel accepting other religions as acceptable paths to God; worshipped Mary and did works to be saved as the Roman Catholic system teaches. It's not how much or how great a work some one is doing that counts, especially if the motivation is to earn ones salvation. Mother Teresas work was because of her Catholicism.

As an example: Question: Today it does not seem that the Catholic Church is trying to convert anymore. I know that John Paul II is saying now that those of other religions are saved. You do not believe they are lost anyway, right?

Answer: No, they are not lost. They are saved according to their faith, you know. If they believe whatever they believe, that is their salvation." (An interview with a Catholic nun, "Sister" Ann, who worked in Kathmandu, Nepal, with "Mother" Teresa's organization Missionaries of Charity. Conducted 11/23/84 at the Pashupati Temple.)

Does God approve of other religions when he has revealed the only way is through Christ? This would make him a liar. Yet the Scriptures say in opposition "let God be true and every man a liar."

Robert Schuller who is the propagator of the seeker friendly church model has offices at his Crystal Cathedral for "Christians and Muslims for Peace." He told Imam Alfred Mohammed of the Muslim American Society on his TV program that, "if he [Schuller] came back in 100 years and found his descendants Muslims, it wouldn't bother him...."

Why wait Mr. Schuller, why not become Muslim now. This is the prevailing attitude of the modernist, the liberals of our day. That there are no absolutes but we can practice anything as long as we are sincere and has good principles.

This is the work of the spirit of our age that has influenced people to be open to all. In The Unity Way of Life, Marcus Bach writes: "You can walk with the Shintoist through his sacred groves, or chant an affirmation with the Hindu on the banks of the Ganges . . . and still be a student of Unity ....As the Christ becomes greater to you in Unity, the Buddha also becomes greater, and the greater the Buddha becomes, the greater the Christ becomes." (The Unity Way of Life, pp. 88-9)

The president of the British Methodist Conference is Inderjit Bhogal, who was raised in the Sikh religion and though he is "captivated by the story of Jesus," he does not reject the Sikh faith as paganism. Bhogal says emphatically, "I am not someone who rejected the Sikh faith when I turned to Christ." He continues to attend Sikh temples and says he feels secure in his heritage. "Others might find it confusing but I am not confused. I am happy to say that I am a disciple of Jesus rooted in the Sikh faith and have a deep respect for the Sikh faith," he said. Like many others today Bhogal is for ecumenism. Bhogal's Ph.D. at Sheffield University focuses on John 14:6, which Bhogal calls "a difficult verse." He is "exploring what this [John 14:6] means in a plural society" (Ecumenical News International, July 6, 1999).

This is what Roman Catholicism has done for centuries, integrating Catholicism with the culture so that people do need to give up anything but only add, and become members of a church. Christian principles and beliefs are conglomerated with others they hold.

The great theme of the new world religion Will be the recognition of the many divine approaches and the continuity of revelation which each of them conveyed,..(Occultist Alice Bailey)

We see this same attitude taking place in the church either by those not abandoning their former religion or adding practices from other religions. Modernists in the church do not believe that personal faith and following in Jesus Christ as God is necessary for eternal salvation. The Christ they are offering is a false ecumenical Christ, a Christ that will embrace all Churches and religions.

The Emergence

Another Christ, Another Way

Regarding the UCS project, "World Scripture: A comparative anthology of sacred texts," URI activist, Bruce Schuman says, "I tend to feel that World Scripture is the beginning of a global database of fundamental spiritual principles that will eventually serve as the foundation for an emerging new global spirituality." Schuman also envisions new prophets, new theology, and a new revival: "It's my feeling that today, the globalization of culture is leading to the transformation of religion, and I do believe that prophets of this new dispensation should and will arise, and will play a role in guiding the world community into a new era of globally enlightened spirituality. ... I anticipate the emergence of a new form of global theology, that is grounded in the classical doctrines of the religions, but which reinterprets them through a common set of principles. ... I am also an advocate of grass-roots spiritual revival, the direct white-lightning mystical connectivity and personal energy-flow that can inspire and heal individuals and entire cultures." (The United Religions Initiative--foundations for a world religion By Lee Penn quoted from the SCP JOURNAL 22:4-23:1)

This is accurately evaluating what is taking place.

Alice Bailey, Theosophist and mother of the modern New Age Movement, revealed the plan in her volume, The Externalization of the Hierarchy. She tells of Cabalist agents who would infiltrate the Christian Church to modify its message, while adapting it as a vehicle for the Universal Religion of the 21 Century.

She wrote, "Workers In the field of religion will formulate the universal platform of the new world religion...and will emphasize the unity and the fellowship of the spirit. This group is... a channel for the activities of the Christ, the world Teacher'. The platform of the new world religion will be built by many groups; working under the inspiration of the Christ" (Reappearance of the Masters of Wisdom, pp. 158-159). Certainly this is not the Jesus Christ of the Bible but is another Christ that has power and influence to bring about this goal. A cabalist is someone who is like a Gnostic, a mystic and does not take the literal meanings of words or the intent they are written in. Believe or not, we are watching this take place today.

Lets look at another quote from her "The rule of the churches is over, but not the precepts of Christianity or the example of, the Christ. He is, however, responsible for a newer and more effective presentation of the coming world religion, and for that the churches should prepare..." (Alice Bailey, The Externalisation of the Hierarchy, Lucis Publishing Company: p- 448)

Has the church heeded the coming world religion that we see already formed and gaining acceptance? We must, because they want to change Christianity from within. They want us to join their global union.

The father of the modern new age movement Pierre Teilhard de Chardin said, 'The fate of mankind, as well as of religion, depends upon the emergence of a new faith in the future.' Armed with such a faith, we might find it possible to resanctify the earth." What we are often told that if we unite in environmental concerns we can save our planet and ourselves at the same time, essentially it is all one.

Jesuit priest Pierre Teilhard de Chardin also wrote, "a general convergence of religions upon a universal Christ who ... satisfies them all: that seems to me the only possible conversion of the world, and the only form in which a religion of the future can be conceived. (Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Christianity and Evolution p. 130 (Collins, 1971).

Matthew Fox also says: "Indeed, the birthing of the Cosmic Christ is the purpose of the incarnation... Divinity wants to birth the Cosmic Christ in each and every individual" (Matthew Fox, "The Coming of The Cosmic Christ", p. 122.)

Much like Teilhard de Chardin popular speaker Tony Campolo also says, "That a new humanity will be brought forth from this Christ consciousness in each person" (Anthony Campolo, A reasonable Faith -responding to secularism p.65). Campolo explains, "The difference between a Christian and non-Christian is not that Jesus isn't in the non-Christian--the difference is that the Jesus who is within him is a Jesus to whom he will not surrender his life."(emphasis mine)

So one does not need a spiritual birth for Christ to be in you. And Paul stating to see if Christ indeed dwells in you is moot. Why do we allow men say such things a platform inside the church? This something so basic that every new believer should know. Campolo's books continue to be sold with new age paradigm statement like these in them.

Barbara Marx Hubbard states there will come a time when "the divisions of the religions would be over...We would each know that God is within us...If all who feel we are connected to each other, to nature and to God join in a planetary Pentecost, we shall be transformed in this lifetime. I believe in the peaceful second Comin." (Barbara Marx Hubbard the Armageddon Alternative," p.49 quoted by Brooks Alexander, Vol. 19:2/3, 1995).

One of the ways the New Age movement has influenced the church is by the teaching of self- deification in man, "The recognition of God is the recognition of yourself" (Foundation for Inner Peace, A Course in Miracles, Text, (Foundation for Inner Peace, 1992), p. 147)

The divinity and oneness of humanity is the inspiration in the Course in Miracles and is taught by Neale Walsch in his "new gospel. The solution is: make man equal with God or part of him and we can see each other as equal and good.

The inventor of the seeker friendly church, Robert Schuller has agreed when he stated "the Christ Spirit dwells within everybody whether the person knows it or not" (Possibilities, 1986 summer p.8-12). Christ in you without you knowing it? Why are non Christians and "Christians" saying the same thing?

Pope John Paul II forged the new policy of the Roman Catholic church of whom Mother Theresa followed, he stated "This necessary discernment does not hinder interreligious dialogue. In fact, for many years meetings with the various monastic communities of other religions, marked by cordial friendship, are opening ways for the mutual sharing of other spiritual riches "with regard to prayer and contemplation, faith and ways of searching for God or the Absolute"...the action of Christ and his Spirit is already mysteriously present in all who live sincerely according to their religious convictions..."(Pope John Paul II, Thirteenth Catechesis).

The spirit of our age brings us the universalist view. It is the Devils trump card to annihilate the Christ of the Scripture as unique. This will eventually crush the gospel message. First- by removing Christians in their belief that Christ is (still) the only way; second- He can bring the church to participate in other religions therefore producing the same result that took place with Israel in the past when they accepted other gods, and forms of worship and were subsequently are moved into the position to be judged.

Don't think the Catholic church is out of the loop, their intent has not changed, they want to bring unity to Christiandom by uniting all the churches under the pope. From the Catechism of Catholic Doctrine (Revised edition, 1985): "The Pope is the spiritual father of all Christians ... The Pope is the Shepherd and Teacher of all Christians."

In fact there are those who favor the Pope. During the Pope's visit to Los Angeles in 1987" Schuller said: "It's time for Protestants to go to the shepherd [Pope] and say 'what do we have to do to come home?'" (Calvary Contender 11/15/87). When Schuller was planning for the building of his Crystal Cathedral, he made a special trip to Rome to ask the Pope's blessing on the building plans (Foundation, March-April 1990).

The Vatican will continue to pursue their ecumenical agenda using those who are unstable in their Christian beliefs to unite with their church

The New Unity is now Reality

In 1995, Bishop Swing stated that the world is moving toward "unity in terms of global economy, global media, global ecological system. What is missing is a global soul."

Organizations like the United Religions Initiative, World Fellowship of Inter-religious Councils, World Congress of Faiths, United Nations Spiritual Forum for World Peace Initiative, World Conference on Religion and Peace, International Interfaith Centre, The Temple of Understanding, Millennium World Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders, Peace Council, World Faiths Development Dialogue, World Fellowship of Inter-Religious Councils Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions and many, many others are gathering religions into the new consensus. Representatives from 14 international interfaith organisations, all part of the growing interfaith movement, met in Oxford in March 2001 to discuss more effective communication and cooperation. It continually grows stronger as more join and see the necessity of its plan.

The United Communities of Spirit (UCS), an on-line interfaith network supporting the URI. A UCS document, "A Philosophy of Interfaith Harmony and Unity," states: "We see no need to develop one universal common religion for all of humanity--yet it seems clear to us that the global confluence of religions is, indeed, tending to create a new universal spirituality, that incorporates perspectives and insights from all traditions. ... We are creating a forum for 'unity in diversity' that celebrates the unique merits of each particular approach to the divine energy, yet also provides a way that each of these approaches can be welded into a cohesive common framework."

Unity with diversity is the goal for the new spirituality. The new unity says whether it be Christ, Buddha, Mohammed, Baha'u'llah or Krishna, we are all worshipping manifestations of the same God. As Rosicrucianism states, all are petals on the same flower, no one religion has all the truth. We need each others truths to blossom. Christians are to watch out for those who claim other religions have truths we cam learn from that will enhance our spirituality.

The ultimate aim should be that Judaism, Christianity and all other religions should vanish and give place to one great ethical world religion, the brotherhood of man. (Victor Gollancz, millionaire publisher Malachi Martin, Keys, p. 299.)

"A11 men will adhere to one religion, will have one common faith, will be blended into one race, and become a single people. A11 will dwell in one common fatherland, which is the planet itself" ('Abdu'1-Baha The Promised Day is Come, p. 126)

No religious group is more ecumenical and intent on seeing a world government then the Bahai's. They have written to the People of the World: "The Great Peace towards which people of good will throughout the centuries have inclined their hearts, of which seers and poets for countless generations have expressed their vision, and for which from age to age the sacred scriptures of mankind have constantly held the promise, is now at long last within the reach of the nations. For the first time in history it is possible for everyone to view the entire planet, with all its myriad diversified peoples, in one perspective. World peace is not only possible, but inevitable. It is the next stage in the evolution of this planet -- in the words of one great thinker, "the planetization of mankind" (A Statement by the Bahai Universal House of Justice).

The planetization is a special term of making global citizens. Planetary Citizens is a New Age activist group committed to stimulate a "planetary consciousness" for the public. New Age advocates believes the solution is "planetization" which is a global solution. This word refers to the unifying of the world into a corporate brotherhood. There are numerous groups working toward this end.

Joseph Cardinal Suenens, recipient of the 1976 Templeton Award for Progress in Religion. "We appeal to the religious communities of the world to inculcate the attitude of planetary citizenship (Leon Joseph Cardinal Suenens, A New Pentecost? 1975, p. 24.)

Shoghi Effendi of the Bahai stated, "The revelation of Baha'u'11ah should be viewed as marking the last and highest stage in the stupendous evolution of man's collective life on this planet. (It marks) the emergence of a world community, the consciousness of world citizenship, the founding of a world civilization and culture." (Shoghi Effendi, The World Order of Baha'u'llah, p. 163)

Robert Muller says essentially the same thing The United Nations is the only place on Earth which can give humanity a new sense of direction, a general holistic philosophy and vision of a global, planetary civilization. (My Testament, pp. 8-9) This is why he can say "The UN is the New Genesis. (ibid., p. 7).

Do we find any differences in the various religions matter? Of course it does! Imagine your car is a Ford and needs a water pump repaired, and someone says they have a Toyota water pump they can install. After all, a water pump is a water pump! Ridiculous right? But this is exactly what the new unity is asking us. If your God is a she, a he, or many or an it, that's okay; since they're all the same. All religion's are not the same! All the description's of God from the different religion's have obvious irreconcilable difference's in God's nature, principle's of living and man's relationship to him. There are major contradiction's on the fundamental core beliefs that cannot be overlooked. They all cannot be right with so many contradiction's on God and man's nature.

Our Lord God said: "Thou shalt have no other gods before me, " which means there are other gods we are to reject. Not all religions lead to the same God, the creator of the universe. Acts 4:12 proclaims, "Salvation is found in no other, for there is no other name given under heaven to men by which we must be saved." "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). Interfaith cannot be from God because it destroys the claims of Christ that concentrate on who He is and what He has done. So if Interfaith is not of God (the one who inspired the Scripture) then who is it from?

This whole movement is in opposition Christ, and it is paving the way for the most horrific deception ever perpetrated on the human race since the first deception to Adam and Eve. We need to take off our sunglasses and see it for what it really is.

Re: A NEW Anointing - Pentecost  (both posts)

Molly, I just printed these two posts for more careful reading, but wanted to reply today as I will be away from my computer for a day or two... and then again, maybe not... plans around here change so quickly.

Anyway, I've appreciated your posts on current events... and believe that what you are sharing will indeed take place... on the physical level (I believe you say "literal" level??) I have an interest in all of the current events because I believe they are an indication of what is happening on a spiritual level and have wondered just how much of a connection there might be between the two (Physical and spiritual)  by spiritual, I mean what is going on in the churches (all who believe in Jesus and "maintain" they follow His teachings)

God is so good... through your endeavors to bring reliable information to Tentmaker, He really suppplied a great deal of information of just what is going on in the churches...  thank you so much, Molly, I truly appreciate your posts... and, of course, your scripture references  are always filed in my treasure box...

Briefly, I attended a meeting in St. Louis in the l960's after Vatican II Council's  documents were printed.  tell you more later...

also during that same time period I was attending a Christian Liberal Arts College and became familiar with Teil de Chardin's writings...

and one of my best friends (just received Christmas greetings from her) was in Belgium for about six years in the early 1970's where she was part of the housekeeping staff for Cardinal Suenens... we had much to talk about....

anyway, for now... God bless your efforts.

I remember the movie "A River Runs Through It," where the father kept telling his young son when writing a piece...."Do it again....only shorter." I learned much. :dsunny:

72:7; Isa. 25:8

Peter simply said, "This is that which was prophesied by the prophet Joel;". He did not dispensationalize it in anyway.

There is no new anointing.

It is the same anointing that always was, again, as Peter said concerning the Gentiles coming into the kingdom,- "and the Lord bore witness to them, giving them the Holy Ghost as He did unto us in the beginning".

Pentecost was the beginning. God will be pouring out of His Spirit upon acceptable sacrifices and anointing them with the oil (remember the wise virgins) all the way until the end of the age and beyond. All that God does is by the Spirit.

When the "Spirit of the Lord departs"(Ichabod) you can tell, because all that is left is wrangling about words and attempts to intellectually encompass the gospel. IMO,the gospel, without the Spirit, is just words of mens wisdom, and a topic of wrangling jangling disputes between religionists.

If the Pope or some other new agers co-opt the language of the scriptures they are, as Jesus said, "masquerading" and IMO this only attests to the fact that we need the Spirit of Truth to continually lift up Jesus and not get carried away with eschatology........ uniting around the simplicity of the cross of Christ, His Lordship and impending return, and the good news to all people- the ultimate reconciliation of all things. :o)

When you see all these things begin to happen, REJOICE!, For your redemption draws near. :o)
The Logos is complete, but it is not completely understood. http://www.hell-is-a-myth.webs.com/

EW said, "IMO,the gospel, without the Spirit, is just words of mens wisdom, and a topic of wrangling jangling disputes between religionists."

It had to be men and not the Spirit that would dare declare that it's "Good News"(gospel) that God will eternally torture those that don't love him the way He wants them to.
That's making good news into the opposite - bad news. In fact, facing eternal torment is such bad news that most would ask that God had never given them life to begin with.

Picture this: A 22 year old standing before God. "Let's see, I was born with a disease, physically and verbally abused all through my childhood by "christian" parents and I was hit by a truck that ran a red light and burned a horrible death. Now you tell me that I'm going to burn like that for all eternity? Wow, thanks for that "good news"

Incredibly, that IS the good news to the average churchgoer - they just refuse to admit it or think about it while they pray for that job promotion or the building fund so they can be more comfortable.

Jesus said to give our money to the poor and widows. Statistically, more than 90% of all money recieved by a church goes to the building, the electric, water, insurance, and church staff - so basically, the money they give (90% of it) is going back to themselves.
Do I sound critical? Only because I think things should be done the way they did it in the new testament...

Interesting prophecy verses
Zech 14:5-9
5...You will flee as your ancestors did when the earthquake struck in the time of King Uzziah of Judah. The Lord my God will come, bringing all the angels with him.

6 When that time comes, there will no longer be cold or frost, 7 nor any darkness. There will always be daylight, even at nighttime. When this will happen is known only to the Lord.

8 When that day comes, fresh water will flow from Jerusalem, half of it to the Dead Sea and the other half to the Mediterranean. It will flow all year long, in the dry season as well as the wet. 9 Then the Lord will be king over all the earth; everyone will worship him as God and know him by the same name.

wasn't it King Uzziah that made unlawful offerings to God?  not worship Him aright?

ded2daworld

Uzziah's story - he got in trouble for bypassing the priests
2 chronicles chapter 26 11-21
11-15 On the military side, Uzziah had a well-prepared army ready to fight. They were organized by companies under the direction of Jeiel the secretary, Maaseiah the field captain, and Hananiah of the general staff. The roster of family leaders over the fighting men accounted for 2,600. Under them were reinforcement troops numbering 307,000, with 500 of them on constant alert—a strong royal defense against any attack. Uzziah had them well-armed with shields, spears, helmets, armor, bows, and slingshots. He also installed the latest in military technology on the towers and corners of Jerusalem for shooting arrows and hurling stones. He became well known for all this—a famous king. Everything seemed to go his way.

16-18 But then the strength and success went to his head. Arrogant and proud, he fell. One day, contemptuous of God, he walked into The Temple of God like he owned it and took over, burning incense on the Incense Altar. The priest Azariah, backed up by eighty brave priests of God, tried to prevent him. They confronted Uzziah: "You must not, you cannot do this, Uzziah—only the Aaronite priests, especially consecrated for the work, are permitted to burn incense. Get out of God's Temple; you are unfaithful and a disgrace!"

19-21 But Uzziah, censer in hand, was already in the middle of doing it and angrily rebuffed the priests. He lost his temper; angry words were exchanged—and then, even as they quarreled, a skin disease appeared on his forehead. As soon as they saw it, the chief priest Azariah and the other priests got him out of there as fast as they could. He hurried out—he knew that God then and there had given him the disease. Uzziah had his skin disease for the rest of his life and had to live in quarantine; he was not permitted to set foot in The Temple of God. His son Jotham, who managed the royal palace, took over the government of the country

micah7:9

2Ki 15:34  And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD: he did according to all that his father Uzziah had done.
2Ch 26:3  Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.
Isa 6:1  In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

8 When that day comes, fresh water will flow from Jerusalem, half of it to the Dead Sea and the other half to the Mediterranean. It will flow all year long, in the dry season as well as the wet. 9 Then the Lord will be king over all the earth; everyone will worship him as God and know him by the same name.

sheila

so good intentions is Not enough. Proper order very important.  In this spiritual warfare..not waiting on

on Jesus Christ/Holy spirit..can result in spiritual leprosy..Pride,arrogance......

this especially timely in regard to anything to do with the 'ark' and the change of priestly garments.....

when King Uzziah died[put him to death all of us/that this spirit not be in us/spiritual leprosy]

so that they LORD sitting upon His throne..be HIGH AND LIFTED UP....and HIS TRAIN[which,

by the way, means drag[as drag all to Christ]  fill the temple.
