Quote from: Paul Hazelwood on January 12, 2011, 01:03:57 AMWhile NDE's perhaps indeed do have little scriptural support, I would say that then there is as little if not even less to support the idea that they have met the devil any more than me and you have met the devil because we will have met God differently.
There has be some research. The vast majority of NDEs are happy ones. 2-4% have a negative component. Usually feeling ''very empty" or lonely. A small fraction of those 2-4% had hellish NDEs.

But I don't see any scripture to support what you said. It might sound nice and good but there is no scripture to back up the claims of an NDER.

Jesus said to believe on me to have everlasting life. Most Nders do not believe in Jesus and don't know who he is.

I think possibly the God they are seing is the devil, who wants to be worshipped as God, and they go to his part in heaven.
This explains why the god they see is completely different to each of them, for the devil transforms himself into an angel of light and that angel of light could be anything.
I think there is more Biblical support for NDEs than refutation.
Firstly it's my opinion that there is more than has been written in the Bible. NDErs bring back tiny bits of info. If you read 20 random NDEs you will see they don't contradict the Bible. Usually they see/feel happyness. God=Love.
The vast minority sees Jesus. Nobody ever saw Father. At best heared His voice. Even many happy NDEs have a period of despair. Being confronted with sins. NDErs also feel a boundary. They know they can't survive in the brightest part of the bright light. Some NDErer wrote that if he was in heaven was in the outer suburbs. And that's something you read in many NDEs. People are happy but are also aware they are unable/unworthy to come near Father. This isn't an NDE thread so I would suggest to read NDEs and then make up your opiion if they contradict the Bible.

As for your idea/fear that NDEs are just tricks of the devil... That's very problematic. I just as well can claim translation errors are also tricks of the devil. I think that prophets with a vision were often not believed either because anything odd must come from satan.
UR is also a deception of satan according to many. Well.... :dontknow:

/EDIT
A large percentage of NDEs is of atheists. It would be stupid of satan to give atheists an NDE. Atheists don't believe in God and satan likes that. So why pollute an atheists mind with proof of the afterlife? NDEs always have an extremely high impact on the persons who had that NDE. So were do you think the atheist starts his research on the satanic NDE he just had. Not on an atheist forum. Such a person would buy all kind of religious books. Speak to a pastor etc. So basicly an atheist NDEr starts doing all kind of things satan hates very much.
Isn't that proof satan isn't involved?

John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

Quote from: thinktank on January 12, 2011, 02:04:43 AMit could be their subconcious mind, the deep part of their mind that projects these preconceived ideas of who God is and what he looks like, so a buddist idea of God would be budda,
Buddism isn't a religion...
The NDEs I did read never showed satan, buddah, Zeus, allah, Shiva etc to be a god or even present in heaven. People meet family members, angels, a voice, or Jesus (childeren also meet animals sometimes) Not very sure but someone met John the Baptist.
My point is that NDErs only meet normal people that have lived on earth. And if they meet something religious it's always Father, Son or angel. I never saw an NDE that had pagan aspects.

I wonder what kind of study that would be...cross sectional study?  Were all/most cultures examined?  Would some be hesitant to reveal a hellish NDE due to negative connotations made by those they reveal that to?

I wonder though...NDE's I do believe they happen.  The question...are they similar to a dream...firings a dying synapes, neurochemicals in a dying person at play?  Or, are they true spiritual experiences?

It's a great subject...because from my understanding most people have NDEs based on cultural and religious exposures.  That opens up a can of worms that few people of Christian faith want to open up.  Personally, I'm not uncomfortable asking that question.  I am not a Universalist by any means.  So, if these are true experiences what would that mean?

Good point Shawn.
I forgot to mention 2 important points.
During bad NDEs calling Father/Son or general praying was the way out.

The researchers mentione the same thing as you did. Bad NDEs often are associated with bad people. Research shows there is no such correlation. But still they fear people not as easily share bad NDEs. So that will skew their stats.
But even for bad NDErs their life on earth had a positive turn. Using just one word, NDERs get more "humane"

No they are not similar to a dream. See study published in The Lancet.
People died in the ER. No brainwaves. Then they came back with a story.

I think this thread goes off-topic. So I suggest continuing here: http://www.tentmaker.org/forum/judgement_and_punishment/talk_about_the_hard_things_ndeobevisionsblind_people_see_in_nde_7822.msg91039.html#msg91039

:cloud9: @ TT......scriptural support for NDE's? Paul said we know if these bodies are dissolved, we have one prepared in the heavenlies. A heavenly body is WHERE?

I can believe Paul who is preaching to the saved congregation, but what about an unbeliever?

From what I have read it seems that eternal life is a promise to us only, have predestined us to the image of His beloved Son.
The first fruits from the dead.

The rest of the dead lived not again until the 1000 years were up. Rev20

I think that unbelievers will not be given eternal life until the next age. Where those who have done good are written in the lambs book of life. This part of the process, is not talked about much in the bible, but it does talk about How in the valley of dry bones the dead of Israel will be brought to life again, you probably think in terms of these are spiritual, but I think they are a Lazarus type who are raised from the dead physically, but not yet born again, because one must overcome to be born again. Rev3
