Title: Ever been banned from a forum?
Post by: shibboleth on August 05, 2007, 12:31:10 PM
I was banned from a forum on Friday. Has that ever happened to anyone here? John Moneypenny had a forum called Gospel For Today. It was similar to TM....very active and lively. Anyway, John finally had to close it down because of all the spammers etc. he had to contend with on a daily basis. Well, one man invited us to come to his site and I did. I quickly found out it wasn't UR, but figured they were open to the possibility because we UR people were invited there.

My first thread stated that I was UR and I used scriptures to prove it. Most people disagreed with me but we were all civil to each other. Over the past 3 months, I brought up UR topics and usually received negative replies. But, I kept chugging away hoping someone would see the truth of God's unfailing love. Seeker was always a big help in refuting many of the false beliefs being spread there.

I was told that I was teaching false teaching by the mods, but I wasn't told I couldn't continue to do so. Seeker put up a thread about the Lucifer myth and it drew lots of viewers and a few comments. Jeff, a mod, published his own thread about the lie of Universalism. He made claims about us that weren't true and were actually down right lies. Two people put up posts refuting his lies and they were taken down. After I read the article, my blood was boiling. I told Jeff he was a hypocit and liar. I told him he was afraid of truth and that's why he took the posts off. I never cussed at Jeff, although I wanted to!!! In an hour or so I was PMd a message that I was banned.

At first I was angry at Jeff for banning me without talking to me or giving me any warning. I have to use my son's computor to look at the site because they banned my IP number also.

This is my 2nd day since being banned, and I know that God caused it to happen for a much greater purpose. I kinda knew my days there were coming to an end because I had stoppped posting as much as I did at first. I was also there to give encouragment to those whose loved ones had committed suicide, because my brother killed himself 10 years ago.

I just wondered if you were banned, if you felt like I do. I have had a laughing one minute, angry the next minute type of 2 days. But there is a purpose in all things that happen to us, and sometimes we don't see it until we walk ahead and look back.

Hi Shibb,

I have not been banned from a forum but I have loved ones who have been ex-communicated from churches for believing in a saviour of all.  We would have been ex- communicated too, had we still lived in that area.  It boggles the mind how brethren can turn and devour one another but as someone else once said, it's a fear factor.  Fear as a motivator is sickening, resulting it unbelievable consequences...

I feel for you, shibb.  Let the tears flow and the laughter roll.  It's normal.

Being banned comes with the territory LOL!  ;D
I've been banned a few times since Al Gore invented the internet.

It was probably you calling him a liar and hypocrite which was the final straw. I have posted on message boards that I was sure if these "Christians" had knives and I were in their presence they would have had no problem in stabbing me with all the gusto they had and thinking they were doing God a favor.

They character assassinate and tell all manner of lies. But that is just Satan working in the background trying to get you upset and them upset.

The good news is eventually they will understand God ultimate love for all mankind!  ;D

I even rejoice in the fact that Jeff will be with us one day. And we will all be brothers and sisters and the Lord will make all things new.  :)

You've gotten alot further than me, dear friend! I'm still in the carnal stage....i.e. I still want to throttle the man!!!!!! I could handle outright disagreement, I could handle outright anger, but Jeff plays dirty and lies....and because he's a mod, he has the edge of the good ol' Ban Button. In other words, when he's losing a fight or argument and can't produce any sort of rebuttal except 'That's Heresy! Filth! Lies!', he just bans you. If I weren't gnashing my teeth so much at him, I'd laugh because he reminds me of a 4 year old brat.

Greetings

As long as you are banned for speaking the truth it is within prophecy that evil will be spoken of what is good. Actually IMHO sites that will edit your words to say what you did not say are far more evil than ones who practice self righteousness through purging their membership lists.

Still that does not change the hurt that can come from being falsely accused or shunned for political ambitions and I can feel the pain of ones who are unjustly accused of being apostate. However we all know our own hearts and know that we cannot lie before God and remain within Christ.

So for those who have been banned (I have been banned numerous times) but walk in the right direction it is part of your wilderness experience and IMHO learning to turn the other cheek. Looking back at places I have been banned from I am now grateful however I am not pleased with myself at how I reacted at the times I was banned from different sites.

I think if we can keep at the forefront of our consciousness that all things that happen unto us happen for our good it will certainly help to maintain the proper perspective on our trials........ they are merely lessons and tests designed to make you better rather than bitter.

Blessings

Doug

For this were you called,
seeing that Christ also suffered for your sakes,
leaving you a copy,
that you should be following up in the footprints of Him

Who does no sin,
neither was guile found in His mouth;

Who, being reviled, reviled not again;
suffering, threatened not,
yet gave it over to Him Who is judging justly,

So that is where you have been LOL! Well, getting banned hurts, but at least you were there to encourage that member who lost a family member to suicide, that is probably why you were there in the first place.

Hi Shibboleth....I've been praying for you, sis.  Try to keep in mind that there are many intelligent people on that forum who aren't blind to Jeff's "bait and ban" tactics....and I'm sure there are many who would agree that he is the worst type of person to be a moderator.  I've been the recipient of a few cyber-stonings by IBs, RCs, and calvinists on non-UR boards...heartbreaking when they won't even try to listen, but they've been so indoctrinated with the fear of ET that they often react in an un-Christ-like way----unloving and intolerant toward anyone who would dare to challenge their manmade doctrines and their twisted interpretations of scripture.

Well you know I didn't feel that way yesterday or Friday. But, I was just thinking about all the ET crowd and how, when we are all reunited with God, we will hug and love on each other. This is definately not me doing this, I can't forgive those who hurt people I care about in my own self. And if he had banned my posts and taunted me for not answering him, I would be angry too. Loving our enemies doesn't mean we trust them or confide in them. Jeff is still a sneaky snake, and you know what the Bible says about snakes. :icon_flower:

I have been banned from two sites, however, the second site e-mailed me back and canceled the ban and reinstalled my post. They got to thinking about what they did, eventhough they still disagreed with the information. They turned out to be really nice. Also I made sure I was always kind. I never called them names even when the debates got hot and heavy, but boy did I get it a few times.  ;)

Hi Crlnray

They disagreed with my theology that's all.  :o The problem was they could not explain it way with scriptures so it was easier to just delete my post and ask me not to come back.  Don't worry, they do not do that here. Even if they disagree they respect your right to seek the truth. They know how to agree to disagree here. Very nice people to work through issues with, of course no site is perfect. They will get an occasional new person who might be rude but they usually don't stick around long.  8)

I've never been banned from a forum, but I was banned and all my posts removed from an online Bible study of Beth Moore's (ironically called "Believing God"), and this was even BEFORE the Holy Spirit had brought me to the truth of UR, but I was well on my way to that revelation, and excitedly on fire about the (new to me) truth of God's grace. Prior to being banned, I had received e-mails from several other study participants who were definitely interested in God's truth contained in my posts (I received only one negative e-mail). When I was banned, I was shocked and really hurt at the time, but in looking back, I can now see that God had me exactly where He wanted me (as He does all of us at all times), and that I had the privilege of being used by Him to plant seeds of His truth. It's sad to say, but I believe a large percentage of Beth Moore's Bible-study participants worship Beth Moore herself, but I also believe that God used her studies (I participated in others in the IC) in bringing me to where He presently has me - it's all part of the journey.

I got banned from Matt Slick's discussion boards, but back then that was sorta the Christian Universalist version of water baptism.  That was sorta the unofficial "initiation" process back in the day!  Ya kinda weren't a Universalist until Matt had thrown you out by the ear!!

Got banned from a youth ministry's discussion boards too.  They've since had to take the whole website down, because it soured the whole board when they posted that they absolutely wouldn't tolerate UR being taught there.

I can't remember which translation this is.  Might be the Message translation where Jesus said that if they ban you from this discussion board, then shake the internet dust from your fingers and move on to the next discussion board - because you won't have covered all of the discussion boards before the Son of Man comes

sounds like getting banned feels a lot like getting kicked out of or ostracized from church.  my sympathies to you all who've had to deal with it.  keep your eyes on Jesus, the Author and perfecter of our faith Who, for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame. don't even look at them?  what do they know?  is He smiling?  :icon_king:

Yes, I've been banned, but only for a week, so does it really count? I was pretty mad, though, since they didn't tell me it was only for a week, and they didn't even give me a warning or anything, although they did give other members warnings without banning them. Perhaps my offense was too great. I posted that I was a Christian Pantheist who didn't believe in hell. On that board it is against the rules to say that you are a Christian if you don't agree with a whole bunch of lalalala. Uh, I mean, if you don't believe what they believe. :) It was also against the rules to say "Hell does not exist" as a fact instead of an opinion.

How easy it is to make someone an idol. We don't think we are, but all the signs are there. We wait breathlessly for any new revelation human idol of ours speak and  we defend them with our whole being. I had a few human idols of my own, and thank God, I'm really careful about that nowadays. I'm glad you got to plant seed with all the people who were hungering for truth. I know it will bring a harvest someday.

I have never been banned from a forum, but was put on restriction once for arguing UR.  I was accused falsely of making a threat against the person I was arguing with.  It hurt at the time, but I also felt the forum administrator didn't like me anyway.  The restriction has since been lifted, but I seldom go to the forum anymore, even though I have not been banned for inactivity.  It's only because I have many friends on that forum (that were actually made on another forum) that I even go there from time to time.

crlnray,

I do not understand? There is no church here? Only a search for knowledge. Were you asked not to post from a moderator? I hope not, of course unless you disregarded the forum rules. Or did you get ripped by a fellow poster? I have never been asked not to post here but many times have had my beliefs challanged. I welcome the challange because if I'm wrong there is no better way to find out than to have fellow believers read your post and give you a different prespective. That's is what growing is all about. So what happened here to you?  Were you asked not to post?

I have been permanently banned from the same forum 3 different times! Of course I signed up again from another computer with another username.  They absolutely did not like UR by the time I finally left that bunch altogether. But they had a few "bait and ban" hypocrites over there as well.

When I first came here, under the username BenJasher on the old board, I was still feeling the sting of being  thrown out. Of course I can get mouthy and rude when I get mad. (I think one of the mods referred to me as invective; whatever that means.) Someone had baited me with a trap and I fell for it, then I lost my temper when the trap was sprung. I said some things I would have been better served to have not said when I left. When the Head Admin threatened me publicly to ban me, I told her to go ahead, because I had been thrown out of better whore-houses when I was in the Navy. (That statement pretty well sealed my fate)

Bottom line from this invective smart-aleck: If you were sharing the message of God's unlimited love with someone who worships a very small God, and you got banned for it; go right ahead and find yourself another place to share some good news. Rejoice in the fact that you have made it into the company of those who have been persecuted for their faith. Great is your reward.

But there is a caveat to that. I deserved what I got. Peter tells us that if we suffer for doing something wrong, there is no credit for it.  (1Peter 2:19-20)  If you were innocent, that is a completely different story. I wasn't innocent.

Be well blessed and firmly established in His Love.

Hi Paul, Sorry I didn't mean this form. The church that I went to here in this town, ask me not to come back any more.I had read Smiths teaching on tithing And the preacher said we had to tithe or we would be cursed,I dissagred with him,and tried to show him what the Bible said,he didn't want to hear that,so he said it would be better if I didn't come back. The Bible study was one I was taking on line,I found it and though they were searching for the truth. But it was the same thing the churches taught. And they wanted you to learn what they taught and not ask questions.I had ordered a book from Tentmakers I was upset so I called Geary, and he help me get on here.I thank God for that.I have had no problem here.Sorry I didn't make it clear.I hope I didn't get any one else confused. Thanks for bring this to my attention.crlnray

Sometimes God will just make me stupid and I won't see all the man made signs saying "Kapu!" (Hawaiian for "you're trespassing")

A month ago I was directed to a forum where I saw "Stardust" was a participant. There was actually some good stuff there and because of Star's presence and the recommendation to visit I really thought this was a "UR" board. I joined up and posted a few posts with obvious "UR" leanings and to my surprise my posts started disappearing. Then finally the administrator posted a "UR" is poison message and I was banned.  :laughing7:

I did send this fellow an e-mail and post something of my experience on a couple of my blogs. After reading  julzabro2's  welcome post "freshly booted from Christian board" I thought to share this .

_________

BROTHER, YOU SLANDER OUR FATHER AND OUR GOD!

Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all. 1Cor 15:24-28

The Holy Spirit some time ago taught me to always try and minister to the "one" before ministering to the "multitude." Thus, it has become almost a habit for me to send out a few E-mails before I write for our blog or participate on a public forum. It is kind of a type of "leaving the ninety nine to care for the one." So this morning, first off, I wrote a letter of encouragement to a sister who's father is suffering and then I typed a short rebuke to a brother that owns and administrates a forum that still holds to the idea that our Father tortures and torments for all of eternity most of His offspring.

This is a simple reproof of the "eternal torment doctrine" by defining God as the "All in All." It is so clear to me that when we see the total inclusiveness of "All in All" we surely can know all men will be saved through Christ. I read a brother's statement below (in red) on his forum today and felt led to reply. I mixed some words by Elwin Roach and a list by Preston Eby in with my thoughts here.

Brother, you slander God and belittle the Cross of Christ with this statement below:

"One enticing and detrimental illusion that is spreading like a cancer through the body is an aggregation of false concepts sometimes referred to as Universal Reconciliation."

God doesn't tell us to love our enemies and then burn and torment His enemies for eternity. How absurd this belief in eternal torment!

You can see the absurdity of your position by the simple use of reasoning the concept of God as "All in All". Nothing of creation is lost as Christ's glorious cross redeems all. Please take a moment after prayer and think about this below.

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him. Col. 1:16

Paul related it once in a very short but powerful statement: "For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen" (Rom. 11:36). Simply put, everything came out of God, it all passes through Christ and His cross. It returns back to Him from whence it came. It returns in resurrection glory changed to the same heavenly substance of Himself.

Col. 1:16 speaks of all these things below. All are out of, through, and back into God. There is no exception to the "All in All."

1. All things in heaven

2. All things in earth

3. Visible things

4. Invisible things

5. Visible things in heaven

6. Visible things in earth

7. Invisible things in heaven

8. Invisible things in earth

9. Thrones in heaven

10. Thrones on earth

11. Dominions in heaven

12. Dominions on earth

13. Principalities in heaven

14. Principalities on earth

15. Powers in heaven

16. Powers on earth

Be blessed my friend,

Jack

Note: A couple months ago I lasted about a four days and four posts on this forum before this good brother gave me the left boot of fellowship. LOL He seemed to think I was poisoning his forum with my messages of God's enduring grace and mercy. I pray, soon he sees the enormity of Christ's sacrifice.

It is like people WANT to be banned from these forums. I have gone to many of these places where people said they were banned, and I read their conversations (when they were still present but the person banned) and wonder if that person was just not using that forum as as the punching bag to release their emotional baggage over the eternal torment doctrine.

I am not saying everyone is doing this, there is times, where the forum does not allow any hint of Universalist teaching and the moment you bring it up, you are banned. That happens, it happened to me in Bible Questions (ironically an MSN community I created and long story short, was decieved in giving up authority to someone I thought was a friend who later banned me; later I returned as everyone missed me, only to be banned for teaching the heresy of universalism). So for those times, that is when we just kick off the dust of our shoes and move on.

However, many times the well has been poisoned because of past experience with universalists. These forums had to deal with a lot of abuse from people who supposably brough the true message of love, but at the end of hatred and foul mouthed loathing. In those cases, I agree with much of the anti-universalist's observations when they say things like:
QuoteAfter universalists see what they have written used against them, they often retaliate with name-calling.  Again, they preach and teach God's infinite grace and love but so rarely show it to anyone who disagrees with universalism.

There have been noticed many times by myself and others, accusations of intent, accusations that because someone believes something means they must be horrible people,  slanderers of God, blasphemous of the Gospel, or wicked, etc. It is no wonder they were banned from those forums.

Even in ChristianForums, where I have been for over 3 years, I have had some deep straight to the issue conversations, but the moment another Christian Universalist enters, they are banned, not because they were a Christian Universalist, but the first thing they use is Sarcasm and insult to prove their point.

Quote"Your father is Satan, how can you ever be expected to understand the truth when it is before your eyes! You must not have love, because the doctrine you believe shows a very evil Gospel that has Satan win and God lose. God is love, God will win."

I can understand that response, it makes sense but it is not beneficial to the conversation, nor will it open a person up to the Gospel. You don't have to be polite, but you don't have to be mean either. That individual was banned from Christian Forums, while I kept teaching Christian Universalism with success.

What would have been better would have been.

"I understand that you believe that most of the world is going to be thrown to hell, with Satan and his angels. Looking at the Character of God, and that is God is Love, would you say that such odds, do not fit? Is God not victorious in His own Creation or is Satan more powerful? I believe a doctrine which sends most people to hell without redemption, very dark and it does not line up to the Character of God. I believe such doctrine lacks God as a foundation, because it deals with the letter of the Law, and not the Spirit of the Law."

There is no need to insult a person, or their intent simply because they were taught wrong. We do have to deal with the feelings of people as we speak to them, we don't have to compliment them, we don't need to use emotoinal appeals, but we still need to recognize they are still people. Think of how you came to this message? Was it because others insulted you for not believing it? Or because they presented the truth and the truth set you free?

So for those who got banned legitametly (no fault of your own), for nothing they did or said other than to say, Jesus loved all mankind and will and has saved them all! Good for you. For those who have made it a war path, that now closed the message off to many who were open to listening at one time, insults, emotional appeals, sarcasms and/or cursings, are the fruits of the Flesh, not the Spirit and counter-productive for you and everyone else who is spreading the good news.

I was directed to this thread from Hennessey who replied to my "introduction" post. And thanks for the warm welcome, Hennessey!  :icon_biggrin:

Anyways, I said in my intro post that I had just been banned from another board...a Christian board...that I won't name. Although, I will say that I found this site after reading WHY Universalism was banned in the site I was banned from. I never knew I was a universalist or even a universalistic-typed Christian. I had always called myself a liberal Christian.

Needless to say, I think what happened was I started a new thread which spurred an explosion of debate that brought out the universalist in myself and others. And the handful of those who agreed with me are probably about to get banned themselves. I wouldn't be surprised to see them here shortly! I am not against following the rules but, honestly, I didn't know that this site banned universalism nor did I think I was one!!! And I boldly started a thread knowing that this site, appeared, to allow atheists, gnostics, agnostics etc.etc. to post. I thought that what I was posting would be sharply debated but never considered that I would get banned.

I admit that I did get overly frustrated once in this heated debate and I regret that but what is strange is that those so-called Christians who provoked me....and, believe me, they did...didn't get banned. I was name called, judged, labeled and my very salvation was questioned!!!?!? Now, I'm no whimp....I DO love a good debate. I can handle all the mud slinging in the world but I hate that only one side is allowed to do it!!! Ironically, this site claimed that Universalists do these things and claimed that it was for THAT reason that Universalism was banned! I believe this was a fairly recent development after a debate between THAT site and this one.

No one likes to get banned, but I look at this way....I have been banned from atheist sites before as well! If it had not been for this so-called Christian site banning me, I would have never found THIS site....which, so far, appears to be full of, what I would consider, kindred spirits!  :Sparkletooth:

So I am here to learn about Universalism to see if it's what I think it is....to see if it's Truth.  :Angel7:

Well, I was banned by Jeff really for no good reason. I had a temporary ban that I didn't complain about and, after that, I trod carefully. Then Jeff banned me because of what OTHER people wrote on the site where I posted.

I heard that he agreed that the ban could be lifted but, last I heard, I had been totally wiped from the site.

Well, I wasn't banned, but I was told my posts were something unprintable and unscriptural, and I was compared to some mythological Greek demon on the Bible Study That Doesn't Suck forum. (it does)

Well, since people have named it already. I was actually suspended from CARM. Most likely once their moderators catch up to other posts...they will ban me. Apparently, if one just hints at UR, they will ban you. I, as many others, didn't know we were UR or even sounding universalistic, but after being labeled it so many times and now suspended for it, I was driven to look into it....which is why I'm, here.

Sadly, they claim that their reason to ban UR is because UR's are always harsh, rude, devicive...and that they keep people from coming into the Body by teaching that there is no hell. I believe they misunderstand that stance of UR. I don't understand banning a group that DOES believe in God and Jesus for being harsh yet allowing Atheist who are ALSO harsh and possibly hurting the faith of little ones to remain. furthermore, there are HARSH Christians doing WAY more harm to Christianity and the Body then anyone simply because THEY claim the title "Christian"!!!!

I've been banned from one site awhile - restored later, long story.
I've been banned from another's site's inner sanctum, theological & argumental reasons - I should have known & behaved better  :)
So far, I'm on a few boards - seem to be aok for now.

As long as you discuss the subject respectfully and peaceably, you will not be banned... I believe God brings folks to sites such as TM to teach them and REVEAL...

What do you believe?  :dontknow:

And BTW, ...if you would like to propose arguements against UR... please do so in the forum we have set aside for this purpose okay? ...thanks...

I can't remember which translation this is.  Might be the Message translation where Jesus said that if they ban you from this discussion board, then shake the internet dust from your fingers and move on to the next discussion board - because you won't have covered all of the discussion boards before the Son of Man comes

Hi Martin,

Had to smile when I read this, it would sure be wonderful if you were right about Jesus returning before we have covered all the discussion boards.

I'm as dumb as a fence-post concerning UR.
Where would I find a thread: UR for dummies [like me!] ??
Thanks!

Hi Roland!

I once asked for a "discusion boards for dummies" thread so I can relate!

Some of the old timers here will be sure to reccomend some good articles or books for you but meanwhile, you can look over the tentmakers main page- not the forum but the ?  main page.   :icon_flower:  There are many resources available there.

I've been banned from over 30 forums over the last 5 years.  You name the forum, I've been banned from it.

The closer to truth we get, the more hated by the world we will be, but sometimes (I've learned), that it was not the tenants of my faith that caused expulsion, but the way I expressed myself.

Peace in Christ.

Good point but that's not always the case. You can be as gentle as a lamb and still be eaten by the wolves. The Truth is never well received to those who are against It.  :msealed:

hello all.

many times when a christian finds UR to be true they are quite zealous in the beginning and go to
a non UR forum with guns a blazing, to me this is a no no.

then there are people like dear julz, who  simple just come in and discuss and are immediatly labled.

and i can attest julz to be very patient and kind in her discussions.

its funny because ive been labeld a calvinist a universalist a anhalationist a heretict a liar, a false teacher and several others.

the sad thing is once a person labels you  from that point on they read with prejudice, and you can see this same thing in how they read scripture. they read with the natural mind and from thier preformed beliefs. sad indeed.

for me UR is just the beginning, it was for me anyway, the beginning of a wonderful journey of LOVE and getting to know Christ formed in me, and growing in that LOVE truley learning how to love the enemy.

God bless all in your journey of LOVE in Yeshua

Ya know, I can remember in times long ago, hearing that someone was a false teacher and immediately believing it.  How sad.  I think it was because of fear.  Being led of fear.   :sigh:

Thank God for deliverence!   :bgdance:

People who become moderators on internet forums get some kinda power trip mentality.

They delete a lot of posts on the bibletruths forums. They editted a post where I posted a link to this site. They say Ray's teachings only!

I can see the administration on this forum is one of the most open and rational I've seen. Kudos to you guys!

I've been banned from forums but usually I brought it upon myself.

I only defend bible truths in the light that if you read everything pertaining to rules of the forum you are basically limited to discussing only that which is associated with Rays main website.  The assumption and rightly so is that you understand those rules when you ask for an account.

I think Ray has many articles that are scripturally sound, but he is still a man and I intentionally asked that my account be removed from that forum because too many people place him as the final authority.

There is not much wiggle room, if you offer something that appears to show Ray is not quite right, they quote Rays articles and are done with you.

It is just one of my pet peeves when a discussion with someone involves mostly just copy and pasting Rays work continually in a forum thread so I found no real benefit to my life there that could not be obtained by referring to Rays articles when studying.

This is not a statement against bible truths, only my encounters with them, people have the right to operate a site as they see fit.
