I sure hope things gets resolved quickly.
My internet was out for hours couldn't get anything.
I love hearing L Ray smith talk about Bill Wiese's 23 minutes in hell he sure makes Bill Wiese' look foolish.

Hi again everyone,

I dug through the settings on the server for the tentmaker.org domain, and found some weird remains of IP addresses from the former webhost of tentmaker.

I've removed those and am hoping they were the cause of the intermittent trouble you were having.

However, it's so strange that problems from this would just be showing up lately.

So,  :grouppray: may still be in order.

Hopefully it will help, but as I mentioned earlier and you indicate, it's not new, just progressively worse recently.  

The average # of posts on TM is 96 per day.  Yesterday there was about 18, and today there've been around 33 or 34...fluke?  or signal things are improving?  Not sure, but that's better none-the-less.

With my mac it takes me usually 10 - 20 tries or more to log in (or actually to have the page come up as I'm logged in 'forever' <I actually think that means aionion>)  and that has to be done over a 5 - 10 minute period. There is never a time when I can't log on as long as I keep trying and once on I am on till I close the program (firefox). It's been this way for almost a year (almost my entire time here). This is the only site where I experience this.

I am able to get on the forum now most of the time but it takes a long time for the page to appear.

That's so funny you said that James.  Just tonight in a little update I emailed to Gary about these issues, I said "maybe it's a government takeover".  Then I added, "making sure you know - THAT'S A JOKE!!".

Well, home now, but after being able to access TM for 11 hours from work, with one hour to go before going home, at 3 AM CST I was suddenly locked out/blocked.

Tried to run tracert and got this message - "Unable to resolve target system name www.tentmaker.org."

That likely means teh DNS server can't be reached (then the destination is unknow)

Try:

Hi again,

After deleting outdated leftover nameserver IP addresses that were inexplicably (the tech support people at the datacenter had never seen this happen (supposedly)), in the DNS zone on the web server, I added a secondary nameserver that is hosted elsewhere.

Some of the trouble early this morning may have been from my making changes in the domain registration records.

Please let me know how things are going.

This is the first time I've been able to access the site for 7 days.
March 2 was the last time I was able to log on.
I'm on a Mac using Firefox 3.6 and my local cable company as my internet provider.
Hopefully, all is well now. God is good!

Hi everyone,

If any of your friends who usually participate at this forum are still having trouble accessing the site, here's a procedure they can use to clear out the cache in their computer that was stored when they could not access the site, and which may be perpetuating the problem on their computer.

Windows XP instructions:

1. Click the Start button
2. Click on Run
3. Type the following into the textbox:      ipconfig /flushdns
4. Click OK
A small black window will open, with some words about ipconfig.exe at the top. In a few seconds the black window will close after the dns cache is cleared out.

Only read the following notes if you would like to get an idea of what the above procedure accomplishes and why it may be useful after the intermittent access trouble at the site.

"Ipconfig can be used to clear any cached DNS entries stored in your machine. This command is useful if there was a problem with reaching your nameserver that is intermittent or occurred only briefly: any sites you tried to access when the nameservers timed out by default remain in the cache as a negative result - and you'll continue not to have access to these sites even when the nameserver works again. But, ipconfig /flushdns removes everything from the cache - instead of an immediate no server found, an attempt will be made to resolve domain names again. How it works in the real-world: Nearly all of the big, national ISPs operate only a few nameservers for all the locations they serve: you connect to a local number (POP), but there is no nameserver at the POP - it could be thousands of miles away and can be affected by all the problems that can occur in the Internet backbone. So, even though the remote access server at the POP you dialed into is working, a glitch in reaching the nameserver can make some sites appear to be down when they are not; a failure in the nameserver or in routing to the nameserver can make it appear that your connection is dead when it really isn't - you'd still be able to access most sites if you knew the IP address. A true local or small regional ISP that operates their own facilities is less likely to have this kind of problem - the ISP's nameserver will most likely be at the POP you dial into, or one near to you, preventing backbone/connectivity issues in reaching the nameserver. If the nameservers fail, the ISP is out of business and both you and they know it. This is not the case with the big ISPs: where the issue is connectivity/routing to the nameserver, they probably won't know they have a problem, and even worse, are unlikely to have any means to accept a trouble report about the situation! In the "good old days" before spamophobia, I would have considered sending everyone in the members list an email.

I couldn t get on for several days this past week and I tried from several  indirect links and two other computers. So it seems like it is something more than a cache problem in my computer.

At first tonight from work, I was unable to log on.  Then I cleared the old cache, was able to log on.  Not sure if clearing the cache is what really helped, because after being able to access the site for 8 hours, around midnight was no longer able to get on for the next 4 hours.  Attempted to clear several more times, nothing.

THIS IS THE MESSAGE I GOT FROM WINDOWS WHEN TRYING TO LOG IN TO TM -

"The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties.."
