This was really strange the evening that Beloved Servant started the thread, I never fit in, I understood completely.
I tell you I felt pain I felt uneasy all night (didn't sleep well)  and part of next day.
I thought I felt someones pain, it was not pain in the body but spirit.
I don't know exactly cause my spirit oh nevermind sometimes I feel out there... :sigh:

Then you'll love this.  I go to a Church of Christ university and most CoCers don't believe in the rapture.  A professor told me a story about a student he had there who did believe in the rapture and one day, showed up to class not realizing that class was canceled that day.  Apparently, she went all over campus looking for people and became certain that she had missed the rapture! Finally, she came across a professor (the one telling me this story) who had come back to the school to get something from the office.  After he explained what was going on, she responded "Oh good! I was afraid I got left behind in the rapture and you guys don't even believe in it!"  Gotta love it   :laughing7:

I'm wondering if some folks are having problems connecting.  I sometimes have problems connecting to TM from work, but then yesterday had multiple times when I couldn't get into TM at all.  Had to keep trying til it finally connected.  (?)

Yesterday I couldn't connect for at least four hours.
Today I couldn't connect for at least eight hours.
I can see the site isn't down because I can reach the main site with a little trick.
I can see the forum but can't login due the way cookies are used (cookies store your password etc)
But activity has dropped several weeks before today.

I'm here today via vtunnel.  You can google it and use it when using your own IP and servers won't let you through.  May be something on this site...I couldn't access tentmaker the weekend of the 21st, now blocked yesterday and today again.

I haven't had any problems as lately but a few weeks back couldn't connect at all.
I couldn't even read the forums.
The way mine was resolved was through an email, otherwise possibly still not able to access.

Yep, I was blocked all night again from work, full 8 hours.  I really think something's unstable with the site and/or server, but I don't know enough about to know if that's right or not.  I'm thinking a lot of people can't get on...Card told me fairly recently she couldn't connect either.  I think I'll send Gary an email and let him know about it...there's a webmaster somewhere he communicates with about TM who may be able to take a look at things for us.

Jabcat AFAIK it's not the Tentmaker server. The problem is elsewher in the route. The DNS server.
A DNS server is like a dictionary.
Internet does not work with names like tentmaker.org. It only works with numbers like 123.123.123.123 (called IP adress).
The DNS server translated the name to the number.

So I think you are not blocked. It's a networl malfunction. It makes no sense that your office blocks only for 8 hours. If they block it likely will be permanent.
Plus while you are 'blocked' others are able to post so that proves teh site is up.

Hey Tony.  You may be right, however, there's may be something wrong with the site too - or maybe they don't know what you just said and are trying to fix something they can't fix?  Because I got this response from Gary  :dontknow:

Hi everyone,

Gary alerted me to the questions here about accessibility of this site.

Gary had trouble getting to the site a couple days ago, and yet the web server has been consistently up and running.

I thought Gary's ISP might be routing his connection through "nameservers" which are having some sort of problem.

• The nameservers are like a phone directory, in a way. When you type a URL in your browser, your request first goes to a nameserver. Then the nameserver looks up the domain name in its index and finds the IP (Internet Protocol) address which is a number like 64.191.52.138, and then you can access the site you requested)

So, I had Gary change the nameserver details in his computer. Then he was able to access the site.

You might want to try changing the nameserver settings in your computer and see if that helps.

One place with instructions on how to change the nameserver details in your computer is http://www.dnsadvantage.com/switch/index.html

Another is at Google, which also offers public nameservers. Info and instructions for using Google's free public nameservers are here: http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/

There are other options, but either one of those would be a workable solution. In fact, you could do what I did, set one of the nameservers to be the numbers from the first site, and the other to the numbers from Google.

If most on here are having a problem loging in, wouldn't you think it is something to do with the website? Wouldn't it be easier to fix the site instead of everyone changing their nameserver? This seems to be avoiding the real problem.

It just occurred to me that if the nameservers are not working correctly in your corner of the Internet, you may be able to get to the Tentmaker website by using the IP address:

http://64.191.52.138

You might want to save that address just in case.

Hi TechHelp, I agree with CHB.  There are so many people having problems, including myself both at work and recently (new situation) from home.  Also, new people joining, or wanting to join, or even just look at the site, I wouldn't think could really be expected to go in and change things with their systems to be able to access the site.  :dontknow:  Isn't there probably something unstable/not working correctly within TM somewhere that needs attention rather than people finding creative ways to find/access the site?  Thanks  :2c:

P.S.  This isn't a new situation, it only seems to have recently gotten worse.  We have a thread in the mod section where people are discussing having problems connecting from 2-3 months ago.  Without being anywhere close to being any sort of expert, I just truly believe there's an internal problem.  From work, if a site isn't obviously blocked by the company, I can surf all over the place, no problems connecting.  But TM "goes out" perhaps a time or two a month, but now at least twice just this past week - last night for the full 8 hours while at work.  I personally truly don't believe that people changing personal settings is a satisfactory solution.  Thanks.   :2c:
