Apostasy - is there any cure?

Hi,

I was a Christian for a while, but I eventually rejected the religion because I misunderstood the Scriptures.  It all started because I began to have panic attacks thinking about the ones I love going to Hell.  I couldn't accept that.  I also started to look into other areas of the Bible that were really unclear to me or seemed contradictory.  I came to believe it was false and I utterly rejected it and even spoke harshly against it.

However, I now believe in Christ.  I'm afraid, though.  There are passages that seem to indicate that an apostate will not be accepted back or that, as Hebrews 10:26 says, there will be no sacrifice left for sins (many interpret this verse as referring to apostasy).  There are other verses that gave me trouble as well, but I can't remember all of them right now.

I even started to believe that atheism was the truth for a short time.  I believed all sorts of other things, but I denied that Christianity was the truth.  Now I believe in the truth of Christianity, but I see its teachings in a different way.

I'm greatly saddened, however.  Have I lost the right to call myself a Christian?  Will I be rejected by God and His family because I strayed?

If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  I John 1:9

Tell Him you're sorry, ask forgiveness, thank Him for His love and mercy.  It's HIS work on the cross and HIS love for you and acceptance of you that's all you or I either one have to stand on.  He loves you so much He sent His only begotten Son for you...John 3:16

Sounds to me that He is calling you back.  Please read the story of the prodigal son.  The father ran down the road and met him, arms open wide, all forgiven.  That story is a picture of your Heavenly Father's love for you.  It's to show you how He feels about you, and how he responds to your weakness and sorrow.

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that WHILE WE WERE YET SINNERS, CHRIST DIED FOR US.  Romans 5:8

Did you not hear that nothing can separate us from the love of God?  It is by God's will (not our own) that we are predestined unto salvation.

He is faithful to forgive. The Lord does not cast off forever He does not willingly aflict the children of men. You are not the only one here who has seperated from the "church". The Lord has you in the palm of his hand. I agree with Jabcat about the parable of the prodigal son being relevant. God is Love
