You know what's interesting about that scripture? There are two kinds of works: Cain's works (evil) and Abel's works (righteous). In that, I see the difference between works of the law (our own righteousness, dirty rags), and works that come through faith (Christ's righteousness worked through us). In type and shadow, Abel's works were not his own though he was the hands and feet of Christ working through him (in type/shadow). The body casting the shadow is Christ, and his people are that body, doing the works that come by faith which we attribute to Christ ("I, yet not I"), not the works of our own hands. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ for good works.

I hope this isn't a :hijacked:

I came about that doctrine here, have you ever heard of it? the reasoning goes the following, some humans are seed of the serpent, or devil, God hates them and predestinated them to hell or something like that...

is this doctrine a new invention or does it exist already for a while?
IU have heard of it One of the Infamous supporters Pastor Arnold Murray of the Shepherds Chapel (listed and about every apologetics website as a cult) And there seems to be a video of Pastor Murray waving a gun in someones face.. Though I have never seen it( I have seen the links just was never interested enough to look)

will its more about Seth , = "compensation" ,Seth lol thanAbel

speaking better things than that of Abel

I do believe that  Abel  this blood cries out for vengance
where as  in Christ it is forgiven

Gen 4:25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, [said she], hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.  Gen 4:26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.

Rose, I was talking more about what Abel's work symbolized, not what it was in itself. The type/shadow is not the "very thing."

Seth

Think about this scripture for a moment:

Luke 11:48-51
"So you are witnesses and approve the deeds of your fathers; because it was they who killed them, and you build their tombs. "For this reason also the wisdom of God said, 'I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and some they will persecute, so that the blood of all the prophets, shed since the foundation of the world, may be charged against this generation, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the house of God; yes, I tell you, it shall be charged against this generation.'

Remember? They do the deeds of their fathers? Who do they persecute? Who did Ishmael persecute: Isaac (the son of the promise). Cain represents the persecutor of the one who does the works according to faith and knows that by the law shall no man be made righteous. From the persecution of the faith-worker, Abel is made dead and a new son is born, a new man.

James 1
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations (trials - persecutions);
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

By the works which come through faith which therefore are the working of Christ through us, an old man dies, and a new man is born in his place.

  Hi Seth ,
yes ,I too was meaning symbolically  bro .

Gen 4:10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground

Hbr 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than [that of] Abel.See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more [shall not] we [escape], if we turn away from him that [speaketh] from heaven

Hbr 12:26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.

Deu 32:43 Rejoice, O ye nations, [with] his people: for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful unto his land, [and] to his people.

Rev 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
Rev 6:10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they [were], should be fulfilled.

I just see that the BLOOD of Jesus speaks of better things than vengance  as the servants of the Lord even Abel 's blood speaks
all symbolically  to me
    :icon_flower:

just bringing these things up thats all no argument  from me  :HeartThrob:
Jesus is the reward  !!

Seth

Rose, I wasn't taking it as an argument  :HeartThrob:

Just wanted to be clear. The Bible does say that Christ's blood is better than Able's blood. I think the reason that Christ's blood speaks better things than that of Able is because His sacrifice was the "very thing" that Able's animal sacrifice foreshadowed. In other word's Christ's sacrifice was better than Able's animal, because Christ sacrificed himself for the ungodly, and Able sacrificed for his own sin.

God bless.  :cloud9:

Interesting.

25And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.

--Gen 4

Seth is an appointed substitute for Abel, standing in his place as the righteous son.

"instead of" [Abel]

H8478
תּחת
tachath
takh'-ath
From the same as H8430; the bottom (as depressed); only adverbially below (often with prepositional prefix underneath), in lieu of, etc.: - as, beneath, X flat, in (-stead), (same) place (where . . . is), room, for . . . sake, stead of, under, X unto, X when . . . was mine, whereas, [where-] fore, with.

Seth's name means, "substitute."   But, there is no basic difference between Seth and Abel (whose name means 'transitory' or 'vanity.')   Seth, too, will be transitory like his older brother.  Death is still reigning.

But, both Seth and Abel have a better substitute to offer in their place, the firstborn lamb of their flock, without spot or blemish.  Later, we will see Abraham being offered a ram ("strength") as a substitute for his own son,

13And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

--Gen 22

And, yet, even though all these substitutes, man and [beast by proxy],  are 'righteous,'  the root word for 'tachath'--in the stead of-- is 'tôach,'  which means "to humble."

And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

--Phil 2

Right. The shadows are not the very thing.  :HeartThrob:

We all have a replacement too, when talking about the "very thing." I am crucified. I live, yet not I, but Christ lives in me. In that sense, Abel and Seth represent one thing: the man who works by faith dies, and is replaced by another.

Molly

Yes, and the substitute has to stand in the exact place of the one he is substituting for--like Seth and Abel, one stands in the place of the other, like Jonathan and David, their souls becoming entwined.

"a ram"

H352
איל
'ayil
ah'-yil
From the same as H193; properly strength; hence anything strong; specifically a chief (politically); also a ram (from his strength); a pilaster (as a strong support); an oak or other strong tree: - mighty (man), lintel, oak, post, ram, tree.

"caught"

H270
אחז
'âchaz
aw-khaz'
A primitive root; to seize (often with the accessory idea of holding in possession): -  + be affrighted, bar, (catch, lay, take) hold (back), come upon, fasten, handle, portion, (get, have or take) possess (-ion).

"in a thicket"

H5442
סבך
sebâk
seb-awk'
From H5440; a copse: - thick (-et).

H5440
סבך
sâbak
saw-bak'
A primitive root; to entwine: - fold together, wrap.

"by his horns"
H7161
קרן
qeren
keh'-ren
From H7160; a horn (as projecting); by implication a flask, cornet; by resemblance an elephant's tooth (that is, ivory), a corner (of the altar), a peak (of a mountain), a ray (of light); figuratively power: -  X hill, horn.

Is this what real power does--a power that is based on love?  We can catch a glimpse of this through our love for our own children and what we will do for them--using whatever power we have at their service, changing places with them in a heartbeat if it would save them.

2 Corinthians 5:21

21For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

What's the just of the serpent seed doctrine? Beloved 57 over at City-Data seems to believe in it.

Honestly, if any of it has to do with Eve getting raped by the serpent (or, as somebody pointed out, possibly "sorcerer"), it sounds ridiculous to me, only because I don't know of anything that supports such an idea.

Seth

That's close. As I have heard it, the idea centers around that Eve reproduced with Satan and the Canaanites were born, which are the demons-disguised-as-humans. One of their proof texts for their doctrine is when Jesus says "You are of your father the devil." They take that to mean that Satan is their literal biological father.

Livelystone

As Jesus said the seed is the word and just as He speaks the word that is a seed so did the serpent

When the serpent spoke and Eve and Adam accepted that word it became the serpent seed in their hearts

So God cursed the serpent and the earth together as one and ALL of mankind since then has had the serpent seed within them.

It is under the law of the seed that brings forth in its own image that is a reproduction of its source that in this case was the serpent whose word is contrary to God's Word aka a sin.

Because it is "by law" Paul called it to be the law of sin that lived in his members that by definition is a principality that brings forth a life even though it is  a life destined for death

So the scriptures say......... In Adam all men die......... and in Adam and from Eve all men are born

To say that the serpent seed is not in all of mankind is to miss the mark and not understand the Word of God.

Blessings

Doug

Words are very important....and, yet, we use them so casually...

Hebrews 11:3

3Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

A comment; when we receive Him and are baptized in water it as the flood of waters, symbolizing the death to the flesh realm. So how indeed does anything in our flesh survive that?  Blessings....

Luk 4:32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.

Jhn 7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or [whether] I speak of myself.
