I think God could have written the Bible in about 2 sentences..........Love the Lord your God with all your heart....... and Love your neighbor.

Question to all........Why do we have all the rest of the Bible? Does it really build faith or confusion? Does it make for peace among people or contention?

cp
For it is God who works in us to will and to do of His good pleasure.

When there is nothing to study there is nothing to believe.
No proof of anything.
Just a one-liner.

No Christianity at all.
1 Timothy 2:3-4  ...God our Savior;  Who will have all men to be saved...
John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous ...

Hi Clay, I guess that would depend on which "eyes" we view it with

Hey P man,

So good to see my mentor. I suppose with all my lunitic writings you don't want anyone to know that I owe all my beliefs to you!!!!  :laughing7: You have taught me much Brother.

My question is a serious one and one that has perplexed me for a long time. I do enjoy Scripture and I see much in it but the message is generally pretty simple and even redundant. God loves us and will get us from point A to point Z and that is great but how many times and in how many ways do I need to hear it?

I'm not being disrespectful, just curious. Am I missing something. I love a good puzzle and Scripture is a good one. I like mysteries and treasure hunts and those too are provided but I get concerned about all the frustration and confusion and perplexity caused by the emormity of it all.

Hey WW,

Oh, I don't know WW. There is so much to believe just looking at a flower or the tinest germ cell or the vastness of the stars. These are proofs in and of themselves, don't you think? I don't know if I need a whole bunch of books written by a bunch of people over a whole bunch of time that need to be studied to the point of madness and confusion to tell me God loves me and is doing something really good for me.

CP!!!! I wish you lived next door to me.
I really, really wish that. I'm not a social person and my husband and I kind of tend to stick to ourselves.
but I would love to have you as a neighbor.

I don't think the Bible causes confusion, I think it's our condition that causes the confusion.  Another question to add to this.  Isn't God the One that veils and reveals, all in His time?  Some allowed to see things now more than others?  Many completely blind?  I hold to the scripture, that God is working all things according to His will...there's a reason He turned all to disobedience...the end will be perfect, just as He planned it and will accomplish it.

Besides of that God has some plan. He didn't create us in heaven so He need the long version of the Bible in that plan.

Hey James. Our condition is/was known to God and He still gave us the Bible. He must have known how it would interact with our condition.

I do believe God hides much more than He reveals and I do believe He is working all out according to His will.

Scripture just seems like a test of some sort. I want to be very careful here but there seems to be more to the Bible as a whole unit than meets the eye. Can't see the forest because of the trees, comes to mind......

For me, some would love to have just one word given to them in which to live on . . .but others need more than a word, they need a conversation.  They need a regular conversation.  Within the conversation is the same one word . . .but the nature comes through so much more vividly during the conversation than just the one word.  The one word manifests the Truth of Christ, the conversation manifests the life in Christ.

The one word is a hand shake.  the one sentence is an embrace . . .the whole letter (Genesis to Revelation) is a marriage.

claypot

Chuck, your thoughts taken in. Thanks.

Question to all.....

Can you sum up what the Bible says in one or two sentences?

Now don't get technical on me. What I mean is is that I have genuinally studied the Bible for 28 years. I mean really. I'm not bragging, just a fact. After these 28 years as I sit here and type I can pretty much sum up the whole of Scripture in a few words............

There is a God who loves me. This love will save me. I am to love God with all my being (which I don't [can't] do?!), but I try, anyway, I am to love God with all my being and love people.

I even added words to make it look longer but there it is. The rest of the Bible is good reading but the confusion and other negative seem to outweigh the positive. If all is as is taught then I know I am wrong but what if we are seeing the Bible in a wrong way?

Again, my main real question is......

Can you sum up the major message of the Bible in a few sentences or words?

I'm thinking its been done before.....the 4 spiritual laws......John 3.16-17.......

I am seriously asking here so please let me know what you think.
