I suppose a better question would be what is the connection between sin and evil or better yet is all sin great or minor evil?

Personaly I do not see these as synonomus
because of mans religious teachings many
things are perceived to be sin or evil that
are not sin or evil in themselves but only according to the religious doctrines of the church that teaches their followers that: this, that and thus are sinful, just for a few, such as drinking coffee or working Sunday according to most churches
or working on Saturday according to the Sabbath day keepers, drinking a wine or a beer with meals and a host of many countless things to long to list or post.  OK, so here are all these countless church and religious doctrines blowing every which way in the wind that can't be accurate about what is truely sin let alone evil and to equate what is perceived to be sin according to all these doctrines blowing in the wind would be enough to lead one to despare if they believed the big lie of religion that these things that their church in particular does not approve of no matter how minor are evil and wicked, then use guilt and fear of damnation in some eternal hell or eternal death to keep folks in the cluthes and bondage of religion. It appears that all this religious baggage was carried foward by all the religious soothsayers of their times
who teach through fear rather than love that all perceived sin according to them is wickedly evil and all who have done any of the things their church in particular does not approve of are evil and are going to some imagined man made eternal hell while all the time religion has created more living hell right here in the world than any place we could ever imagine going to.

Though I am cerious with what this poll and responces might reveal I am not personaly troubled by this question in this poll now, but as most of us here at one time was more concerned about what men had to say than I was with what inner witness was being revealing in the spirit.

It is what Christ has already done and doing within us that delivers us from all of these things and not the following of mens religious doctrines which profits nothing with the exception of the misery one may go through trying to jump through all those religious hoops that never seem to have an end anywhere but in futility.

Peace

If in this life only we have hope in Christ we are of all men most miserable.

Hi fire walker,
It is good you do not see sin and evil as synonymous.
God said "I create evil" (Isa.45:7). Did He sin in so doing? No. Sin is the missing of the mark. He did not miss the mark. He hits the bullseye every time.

God uses evil so that good may come about.

Just because God says He will save all mankind
does not necessarily mean He won't.

  Good Point Firewalker  :HeartThrob:

With all good intents and purposes  many teach  fear  to save the soul ,
or whay would God even allow it  to be so?

the problem is so many  glory and boast in their flesh making dead/vain empty  works the norm.
Hebrews  , the whole book of Hebrews is wonderful in  how the New covenant  shows how great a salvation we truely have in the Spirit /Life  though Jesus Christ and not to remain in dead works

Hbr 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

Hbr 6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

Hbr 6:3 And this will we do, if God permit.
We  wait / rest in the Lord
Jesus is the reward  !!

God said "I create evil" (Isa.45:7)....
God uses evil so that good may come about.
Just as we're supposed to be doing.

48 You, then, shall be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect. (Matthew 5:48)

1 Become, then, imitators of God, as beloved children (Ephesians 5:1)

For me it's almost a paradox.
The Bible commands us to live good lives. Do loving things and not hateful=evil things.
So evil things are sins.
God isn't evil. But there are many verses that tell us that God has control over evil. Or manages evil. The exact wording is not important now...

Ofcouse you can say God has a plan (agreed) and He uses evil/sins to complete that plan. He uses it with the goal of giving eternal happiness to all. Simply put sins are used for the better. (I feel some flaming coming now... :laughing7:)
But that puts us on a slippery slope that can give reasoning like: "I killed him to avoid that he killed many people"

Personally I find it a paradox unless there is a diffrent set of rules for God and mankind.?
1 Timothy 2:3-4  ...God our Savior;  Who will have all men to be saved...
John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous ...

We as humans are told not to do evil because we, as fallible humans, cannot bring good out of what evil we do.

God, on the other hand, can.
The book of Job says over and over that it was God that brought the evil on Job. Yet God did not sin in so doing because good came out of the evil.

God had humans murder His Son, Jesus Christ. For humans it was a sin because of the evil intent of their heart. For God it was not a sin because the salvation of all mankind and reconciliation of the universe comes out of it.

The apostle Paul must have taught that God does evil that good may come but some people must have twisted what Paul said and so Paul wrote:

Rom 3:8 and why not say, according as we are calumniated and according as some are averring that we are saying, that "We should be doing evil that good may be coming"? - whose judgment is fair."

We should not be doing evil that good may be coming but God is doing evil that good should be coming.
Just because God says He will save all mankind
does not necessarily mean He won't.
