Good Friday as the Day of the Lord

I've been talking sometimes with another christian who argued that the Day of the Lord happened on Good Friday when Jesus Christ was crucified. Do you agree with this? There is a little scriptural support, such as Jesus saying now the judgment goes over the earth before he got caught and crucified. And it was a dark day. But the strange thing is, God took the judgment on Himself on Good Friday. We're left off the hook. And sin and evil didnd't win because Jesus rose from the dead. Now He is Lord of the living and the dead and drawing everyone to Him! What I think is, sometimes Jesus draws us to Himself, sometimes to the things He loves. A muslim may not understand much of Jesus, but he may understand something about peace and honesty. A hindu might be understanding something about Agape love. An atheist might see the beauty of the universe. These are proxies by which Jesus can be drawing us too, the good things of the Spirit, love, beauty, goodness, mercy, kindness, patience...

As the Day of the Lord is referenced in future tense in the epistles, I do not think it happened at the crucifixion.

In the sense that "Christ crucified", the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world, is the act of love that judges/discerns all thing, there is an element of truth to connecting the Day of the Lord to His crucifiction, but not in the sense of a 24 hour day, but rather because the "veil was rent" in the tearing of His flesh and the light poured into the world and the "darkness cannot overcome it."

When everyone stands before His face which shines like the sun, and looks into His eyes which are as flames of fire, they will be in the Day- discerned against the purity and overwhelming magnitude of His love, which is displayed in His willingness to lay down His life for His friends. IMO this love is what will purify every heart, and is consuming all darkness.

I think we need to keep in mind, that God's time is not ours. He lives in a state of eternity, yet, there really is no time in our earthly way, for God. All is stretched out before Him, and He can see all time, as clearly as the next.

The cruxification was a point in time on earth, when all things began to become new again, in a theoretical way.

It is the moment in time, when God and Man were reconciled...the price for our sins, paid in full.

So, if we are talking about 'judgement', this is the moment in time when the course of human judgement, made a complete turn, and no longer did the LAW decide our fate, but, in that moment, LOVE won, and our judgement was completely changed. No longer were we guilty, but we were reconciled. As UR people, we know all mankind was now, as EW always reminds us....drawn to Him, and thus, we will all eventually be saved. To God, it is finished. We do not see it as happened yet.....but He does.

"It is finished" now becomes, not just about the cross, but about our exile being over. We are all on our way home, here on earth and in heaven, I believe, we have already all arrived and are home, in God's eternal time frame.

But, without Good Friday, this would not have happened.
