Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.
For everything in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--comes not from the Father but from the world.

What exactly are the "things" that John spoke of here? :Chinscratch:

Also, isn't it written that God loves the world?  :dontknow:
Micah 7:7

But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.

John 15:5

I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

Wonderful questions Eduard !!

I wondered also why  ,     if God so loved the world He gave His only [one of a kind ] Son   as a gift    to the world that though Him  would be saved !

and I read  John 17  just today   and that is the answer   to me  brother

   Jesus prayer

to keep us and protect us from the evil one in the world ,because we are in the world but not of it     and it hated Jesus and will hate    you also , because the world loves darkness and ignorance  more than Light   , the Light exposes the darkness   and sin is done in the darkness of our own hearts , how many times have you said , I cannot believe    that was in my heart when you flub up ???     and so outburst of anger and   sin manifested itself  and was hid in your heart  to come out and stumble your walk with Jesus ?       JESUS CHRIST IS    the Light of men is JESUS  CHRIST /LIGHT of the FATHER  IN YOU   protecting you Keeping you !
the Knowledge and Wisdom    of the FATHER /SON   relationship   , HOLY SPIRIT  WITNESS and teacher   and comforter  , correcting our path

Jesus Christ is the son of man and the Son of God    our  connection  of power to the HOLY SPIRIT    ,OUR  TRUE  WITNESS that the SPIRIT OF GOD AND SPIRIT OF  CHRIST IS IN YOU    A LIGHT  to follow   the path made   just for you   by them ...

13 "I am coming to you now. But I ·pray [L say] these things while I am still in the world so that ·these followers [these disciples; L they] can have all of my joy [ L made complete; fulfilled] in them.

14 I have given them your ·teaching [word]. And the world has hated them, because they don't belong to the world, just as I don't belong to the world.

15 I am not asking you to take them out of the world but to ·keep them safe [protect them] from the ·Evil One [or evil; C the Evil One is the Devil].

16 They don't belong to the world, just as I don't belong to the world.

17 ·Make them ready for your service [Sanctify them; Consecrate them; C setting them apart for service] through your truth; your ·teaching [word] is truth.

18 I have sent them into the world, just as you sent me into the world. 19 For their sake, I am ·making myself ready to serve [sanctifying/consecrating myself] so that they can be ·ready for their service of [sanctified/consecrated by] the truth.

20 "I ·pray for these followers [L ask not only for these], but I am also ·praying [L asking] for all those who will believe in me because of their ·teaching [message; proclamation; L word].

21 Father, I ·pray [L ask] that they can be one. As you are in me and I am in you, I ·pray [L ask] that they can also be ·one in us [L in us]. Then the world will believe that you sent me.

22 I have given these people the ·glory [honor] that you gave me so that they can be one, just as you and I are one. 23

·I will be in them and you will be in me [L I in them and you in me] so that they will be ·completely one [in perfect unity]. ·Then [...so that] the world will know that you sent me and that you loved them just as much as you loved me.

for me the GLORY IS THE LIGHT of the FATHER &SON  SHINING  IN OUR HEARTS   and the darkness   cannot be where the Light shines so brightly      for the world to see       and those   called out of the world   desire the same     good news of the GOSPEL       spreading the Light   to all the ends of the earth

  , :dsunny:

I think John is speaking about the current evil world system that is opposed to God.

ps  this world   is foolishness to God , all the pomp and  pride of life and    false power to do with the works of our own hands  is very temporary
we get in places   like traps and cannot get out of them   and know we need something  greater than ourselves to save us from the trap  we are caught in   , like  animals    in a steel   trap   and  cry out in  pain      , and call upon the Lord for help      , like  addictions and    troubles   and  sickness , health issues      with confusion and   chaos , those things make us know we need a  savior

we are set up to fail over and over again  knowing in our own strength  we are   weak    and needy    and  broken
the whole creation        was made and  are  subject to vanity and failure   , though we stumble  7 times   [over and over again ]   the Lord is able to make us stand      ,   all our hope in in Christ Jesus   when we come to this place and know this we have    a power never known before    !!   ONE DAY   is all  it takes to make the sons of God manifested !
one day   is like a 1000  years and a 1000 years is a Day to the LORD    AND TODAY     IS THE DAY     OF SALVATION    !!  THIS GOSPEL  IS THE GOOD NEWS for all called out of the world and into the ruling and regining of the Lord Jesus Christ in our hearts!!!      HE SITS AS  KING    protecting His kingdom   from  all   darkness and sin !

you are no longer of the world but in Christ  and all things are new    and the reigning begins in your heart   the glory and light of CHRIST by the Father [GRACE SALVATION]   has come to you !!   [ACTS 17  29-31   ]   never was far from us !!    the Kingdom of God is near you [our hearts]

Romans 8 19For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God.

20For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope

21that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

I think there are two sorts of worlds.

The planet.
All sorts of things that break the Torah.
1 Timothy 2:3-4  ...God our Savior;  Who will have all men to be saved...
John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous ...

Oh  yes , the Light  has  come  but darkness can not comprehend/ mastered  it !

John 3:19
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

but the  incorruptible  / without marring  and without  end   sons of God are born    from out of corruption   /sin and error

The planet.
All sorts of things that break the Torah.

Yes there is   !!!!     a natural realm  /  temporal / cursed to  failure  and sin and pride and  all matter of evil   and good

we learn to  tell the difference    , what we think was good  turns to evil and what we think is evil  God can turn it for good
we see the examples in the WORD and world all the time

there is a spiritual realm also     that  no man can     know  it    and is cut off from it  , it is the constant  darkness and void      , till the Lord comes to separate the Light from the darkness in our own hearts           Ecc 3        who can know but the spirit in a man ?  That God has placed in there   to be realized  /manifested and made known to us
when were were little ones  we had no idea of God    or good and evil I see this in my 15 month old grandson all the time and his constant    curiosity      can be dangerous    to him and keeps us hopping     and   always fixed on his safety   wanting him to explore     but learn his limits / boundaries       to satisfy his curiosity

without being harmed        , mastering his limits   to know good from evil and   what causes  pain and   what brings joy to his little world   and we are pleased to see his discoveries   and accomplishments mastering   walking and talking and   growing in truth and grace     , but the laws of good things and evil things are still   in his path all the while causing danger to his well being      ,   he can only play in the day light  and in the darkness he has to rest to   even be able to   get up , rise and do it all over again the next day if it comes to him
ECC 3 is a very powerful chapter in the wisdom of the world   God gave Solomon

and Jesus   now Has the power   over all      the world and heavens too   the old and the new         and the Lord of the dead    to God and the living to God , for He is the one whom  gave the Living Life    in the first place     from the dead

we see this as day and night in the natural realm      and know there is such a thing in the spiritual realm as    day and night    as well ..
Jesus is the reward  !!

 :iagree: with all the above.

John 3:16 says that God so (in this way) loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. He's describing the manner in which he loved the world, in what he did for it.

Similarly, he is describing how not to love the world, in choosing to conform to the evil things it offers. Love is in what we do, not just how we feel.

There is a way to love the world by saving it, or by conforming to it. One is a good way to love it, and the other is a bad way.

Finally a question I'm an expert in and subject that I have a lot of experience in.

The things of this world are most of the things that make me look and feel good
they are so easy for me to do and accomplish. They always reward me instantly.

The things that require vigilance, and effort not to love.

Matthew 6
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat , or what ye shall drink ; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on . Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap , nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow ; they toil not, neither do they spin : 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is , and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought , saying , What shall we eat ? or, What shall we drink ? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed ? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek :) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

:iagree:

the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, these are the "things" that fuel the lower world.

God loves the world- but he does not love the "things" of it, He loves the people that are trapped within those "things" and sent His Son to die for us and set us free from them because they cause death and disruption.

The wrong things the sinful self does are clear: being sexually unfaithful, not being pure, taking part in sexual sins,  20 worshiping gods, doing witchcraft, hating, making trouble, being jealous, being angry, being selfish, making people angry with each other, causing divisions among people,  21 feeling envy, being drunk, having wild and wasteful parties, and doing other things like these. I warn you now as I warned you before: Those who do these things will not inherit God's kingdom

Thank you Jesus you are my only hope

Romans 14
For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Therefore, "those who do these things" shall have neither joy or peace or righteousness in the Holy Spirit. I think that is why Paul warned earlier in Romans 2 that there would be be trouble and distress for all those who practice evil, because practicing evil naturally results in trouble and distress and lacking in peace, joy and righteousness.

This is why Jesus sent the Spirit.

Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

The things of the world in 1 John 2:15 however, is about(imo) the sources of the "wrong things we do".

It is the sources we are in need of freedom from, more than the "things"

Washing the outside of the cup doesnt help because if we stop "doing the wrong thing" then we start thinking we are "righteous" and judging those who do the "wrong thing" instead of praying for them.

Only a broken and a contrite heart (inside cup cleaning)makes us able to do the "right thing" (love God and love our neighbor) for the "right reason"(love) and it is the Holy Spirit that gives us the ability even to love our enemies- as God does, as Christ did on the cross(Father forgive them).

 :iagree:

Salvation begins with cleaning out the inside first. The "sin living in me" that Paul talked about is what needs to be cleaned and only the Spirit can help. I think that is what Paul means when he says "work outwardly your salvation with fear and trembling for it is God in you both to will and to work of his pleasure." That is the grace I believe that saves, and why the Law was not able to save.

Now because you are sons, God has sent forth into our hearts the Spirit of his Son, the Spirit who cries out, "Abba!" (that is, "Dear Father!"). 7 So through God you are no longer a slave but a son, and if you are a son you are also an heir.
