This verse caught my attention this morning Acts 13:48 When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.

There are, of course, many similar verses like this.  In the light of UR I have to believe there is 2 things going on.  Salvation being for the masses then "being appointed for eternal life" must be something else.

My question then is, What do we call this other thing?  Is it the difference between "born again" and "saved?"  Are those even different?  Is there some deeper second step happening here?

That link... interesting but, oy vey, John Wesley, very wordy. Consummate preacher who, I would guess, loves to hear himself blather.

I see that Young's says "appointed to life age-during" instead of "appointed to eternal life."

What is this "life age-during"?  If not eternal nor salvation, it must be... what?  Special relationship; commission; sanctification...

And what of the Jews who are in danger of perishing around verse 40.  What is this perishing?  Are they just put of the new churches misery for a time, or missing out of the sanctification that Jesus has made available?

  Good question Jerry

I can only say ,    faith is    a gift of God and  made  Simon know Jesus Christ was the son of God      , and called him Peter from that point   on
knowing this revelation  or revealing of Jesus Christ        to simon , meaning hearing        or listen   and new name  Peter  meaning ''rock ''

and upon this ''rock solid revelation of Jesus Christ  OF FAITH  given  as true example of   , the gates of hades /graves  of the unseen  could not   win  a war    against it

We know Peter went on to deny Jesus before men   3 times Just as Jesus knew and told him he would       and yet !!!     Peter was still saved   and went on into true revelation of Jesus Christ   and wrote some wonderful testimony  for us to this day

Peter was  changed   with a new  name and purpose  , just as Simon was given the    gift of faith   from the Father , no flesh and blood gave him this faith , nor did he produce it of  himself

the HOLY SPIRIT   witness was what made  Simon Peter  belive   and death could not hold him   from that point on  , though it  was not  certain of Peter yet , till he want though all the testing of this precious faith   given   him by the FATHER by  HOLY SPIRIT revelation ,   about the SON OF GOD   ,Jesus Christ .

no man calls Jesus Christ accursed   Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

PETER SAYS HERE ...   1 PETER 1   A Living Hope
...6In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,

7so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,

your precious   faith  is a treasure  kept in your heart to build upon as God gives the increase   by the fire and trials of faith making you stronger in   the Lord  in trust and obedience  by the revelation  unveiling  of the hidden things of God   and experiences     the fire   of what is lost is good and what is gained is even more    valuable to you  ..

the HOLY seed being the Word of God  is Christ  , this anointing    of Holy Spirit to me is the     oil  and  light   of salvation  given by the LOVE OF GOD    for  this LIGHT   in  every man   ....  Whom the Father has anointed  in Jesus Christ      ..

There is a lot of different views on this. I think life age-during life and eternal life are one and the same. The word "zoe" is used for life everywhere. Aionian/ age-during is age-during because it is the life of God in us through Jesus Christ and it is eternal, everlasting.

IMO, born again and saved are the same thing, as with reconciled, justified, redeemed- all aspects of salvation in Christ.

My point of view on the word "saved" is here....

John (Eaglesway) posted a great thread called "Saved" that can provide some answers to that.

I believe being born again IS our salvation from sin. Salvation being healing and deliverance. It's Christ within us, the light that saves us from the darkness of the carnal mind.
