The bible says there will be no marriage in heaven
Matthew 22:30 At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.
After learning of this it's kind of depressing to me. I want to marry my g/f because i love her and i want to be with her even in the after life. We both have genetic diseases so neither of us want to pass it on to our children. And if she got pregnant it could possibly kill her so we abstain. But it seems that there will be no marriage, sex or children in heaven.
Do any UR's have a deeper understanding of what the bible says about this kind of thing? Or does it really seem to mean what it says?
Marriage and the Family in the Resurrection
http://www.askelm.com/essentials/ess038.htm
Here is an article that might help you on this. Marriage as we know it today will not exist but that doesn't mean we won't have partners. The marriage as we know it ends in death, there will be no death once we are spirit beings.
CHB
First, if marriage is eliminated, I think it will be replaced with something better.
Second, no marriage in heaven does not mean no marriage in the New Earth. The conventional harp-on-a-cloud idea of Heaven is just as much a myth as fiery Hell. No, based on what we are told in the Bible, Eternity looks like it will be spent mostly in/on the New Earth, including seed time and harvest.
I think what Jesus taught is that there is no marriage in the resurrection. As long as there are mortals there will be marriage- but there will be no marriage in the resurrection, because we will become a higher kind of being
Mk 12:25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
Hard to imagine perhaps, but as Laz said- certain to be awesome.
I've been married three times, but I've been celibate for seven years. Spiritual love is actually more fulfilling than physical pleasure. "God is love" (1 John 4:8,16)
I agree with the article which says there will be no 'ownership' and i remember the context of the story Jesus was told that the woman had seven husbands because her first died having not brought about any offspring, so then his brother had her as wife to bring the offspring.. and he died and so on through seven brothers (geesh! I would be very happy not to be her! )
"neither are they given in marriage" (arranged marriage, often financial in consideration). Somehow I don't think family bonds will be done away with "all families will rejoice before Him" Ps 22:27
I agree that family bonds and friendship bonds will abide into the resurrection. I think that where there was any deep love of true nature it will continue and it will manifest in glory, joy, fellowship and freedom in the presence of God.
Re: "family bonds"
(Mark 3:31-35; Luke 8:19-21)
46And while he was yet speaking to the multitudes, lo, his mother and brethren had stood without, seeking to speak to him, 47and one said to him, 'Lo, thy mother and thy brethren do stand without, seeking to speak to thee.' 48And he answering said to him who spake to him, 'Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?' 49And having stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, he said, 'Lo, my mother and my brethren! 50for whoever may do the will of my Father who is in the heavens, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.'

Hi idontknow,
I suppose I am no longer sad when I think that there will be no marriage in the resurrection, but I kinda was sad too, when I first heard about that future reality for the sons/daughters of God. Especially when one is 'in love,' even the general thought that you could be separated from any of your beloved ones (due to a zillion possible scenarios) in this short time on earth, is a *very troublesome one indeed. But loving another makes us all vulnerable, in that regard, because life in these flesh and blood bodies is so fragile!
So we need the resurrected bodies. We really do. This mortal will put on immortality. ( wow! )
And then when you and she are clothed with your new immortal body, who can say?! We really (at least I don't) have a clue what God has prepared, but if I know Him at all, I'd say it's gonna knock our socks off...literally! Holy Ground! :girlheart:
So I agree with the brethren here that
it has to be a better situation than even what we feel is the BEST situation here, and for many, that would be....marital love. Love is love and that my brother, will never end. Because of Jesus. He's SO Wonderful and He is not going to disappoint any of us. You'll see (and so will I ) and everybody.

Mat_22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
In the resurrection, in the spirit realm and in the Kigdom of God there will not be marriage as we know it . However there is coming a marriage ceremony and the resurrected Elect will be married to Jesus Christ. Loyal and faithful to the Husband in a special spiritual relationship.
Rev_19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
Rev_19:9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
Mat_25:10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
MARRIAGE: Gk. gamos - NUPTIALS, marriage, wedding. The CEREMONY and its proceedings including the 'marriage feast.'
That's the definition of marriage right out of the Bible. Now do you see sex, intercourse, or love in there? No. Let's read it again, nuptials, marriage, wedding - the ceremony. CEREMONY... it's the ceremony and it's proceedings, including the marriage feast or the marriage supper or what we call in the western world 'the reception.'
NUPTIALS: Noun; 'A wedding CEREMONY' (Webster's Dictionary). Adjective; 'related to marriage or the wedding ceremony.'
That's the first definition by Dr. Strong, it is nuptials. It has nothing to do with having intercourse, loving each other, or producing children, nothing. It means a wedding ceremony.
Actually marriage s not consumated until there is intercourse, in history, culture, scripture etc. I think this is what Jesus was talking about, "giving in marriage" means more than the ceremony.
Until the consumation, there is only betrothal.
"Actually marriage s not consumated until there is intercourse, in history, culture, scripture etc."
Where in "scripture" is this revealed? I'm asking because I can't find that info. :Chinscratch:
The purpose of taking a brothers wife after his death was to preserve the brothers inheritance and lineage, for the sake of the wife, and for the sake of the name of her dead husband.
That's what the law was. That's what the "trick question" was about. There is no marriage without consumation- not to say there could not be love.
Genesis 24:67 Then Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent; and he took Rebekah and she became his wife, and he loved her.
The marriage ceremony was not complete until the consummation in the marriage tent, or bed or whatever :o)
21 Then Jacob said to Laban, "Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her." 22 And Laban gathered together all the men of the place and made a feast. 23 Now it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter and brought her to Jacob; and he went in to her. 24 And Laban gave his maid Zilpah to his daughter Leah as a maid. 25 So it came to pass in the morning, that behold, it was Leah. And he said to Laban, "What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served you? Why then have you deceived me?"
26 And Laban said, "It must not be done so in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn. 27 Fulfill her week, and we will give you this one also for the service which you will serve with me still another seven years."
28 Then Jacob did so and fulfilled her week. So he gave him his daughter Rachel as wife also. 29 And Laban gave his maid Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as a maid. 30 Then Jacob also went in to Rachel, and he also loved Rachel more than Leah. And he served with Laban still another seven years.
Jacob had to "fulfill her week", the idea to get her with child, because in the Jewish tradition having children was paramount as the blessing of marriage. The sexual part of the marriage ceremony goes on, a continuing celebration, producing manifestations of love, "be fruitful and multiply".
1 Corinthians 7:4 The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.
This is a part of the exchange in marriage, two become one flesh.
I don't see what scripture you gave as a conformation for ""Actually marriage s not consumated until there is intercourse, in history, culture, scripture etc."
I did not see the word marriage used in any of what you said. :2c:
I think "She became his wife" is the same as marriage ;o)

The marriage of Christ to His bride at the resurrection is the consummation of that marriage.
Being one with Him and with Him always.
That which is physical is physical, that which is spiritual is spiritual.
We have no idea how that new relationship will feel.
The ecstasy and joy will far surpass any fleshly pleasures.
If there is NO marriage in the resurrection, then why is the marriage of the Lamb in the resurrection?
The Hebrew word for 'know' implies marriage intimacy. Is that the meaning in Mt 7?
Quote
Mt 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Why would he say Ï have never been intimate with you, if the marriage wasn't until later?
Aren't the goals of the marriage to be 'fruitful and multiplying"? Isn't the church now supposed to have the fruit of the Spirit? and multiply by making disciples?
Isn't marriage becoming one flesh? So what is the body of Christ now?
The marriage I am speaking of is marriage between male and female humans, which is the marriage Jesus was speaking of, I believe, when He said, there will be no marrying and giving in marriage for they will be like the angels in heaven.
The marriage of Christ and the Bride will be something other than the earthly union between men and women.

Actually, the research I did for my (as yet) unfinished manuscript on the Bride of Christ indicates that it will be the
remarriage of Christ and His Bride. Remember that He married corporate Israel at Sinai, and later divorced Israel [and Judah] with cause (infidelity). The death of Jesus the Christ ends the old marriage ties, and makes the remarriage possible.
I`d be interested in reading your study, Lazarus, when it`s done. Fascinating topic....

"I will betroth you to Me forever;
Yes, I will betroth you to Me
In righteousness and justice,
In lovingkindness and mercy;
I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness,
And you shall know the Lord.
"It shall come to pass in that day
That I will answer," says the Lord;
"I will answer the heavens,
And they shall answer the earth.
The earth shall answer
With grain,
With new wine,
And with oil;
They shall answer Jezreel,
Then I will sow her for Myself in the earth,
And I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy;
Then I will say to those who were not My people,
'You are My people!'
And they shall say, 'You are my God!'" (Hosea 2:19-23)

This subject, "...this mystery of betrothal/marriage to the Lamb." is a HUGE theme of the Bible. We see it in God's visits and promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, which I covered in a chapter titled "Yaweh Goes 'a Courtin'." We see it in the way God came and took Israel away from the house of her bondage, and betrothed her at Sinai. We see it in His anger at her waywardness, while being mostly unconcerned at the other nations doing the same. We see it as He pronounces Israel and then Judah divorced from Him (the statements are hard to find, but are there). We see it as the two wives/sisters are sent packing out of the land of Promise. We see it in God's promise of eventual reconciliation. We see it in the death of Jesus, which freed Him from the old bonds and claims, and from the impossibility of remarriage after Israel had been with other gods/husbands. We see it in the promise of the wedding supper of the Lamb, probably the most glorious event ever in the Cosmos.
You just have to be able to see the forest as well as the trees.
Brilliant posts Lazarus. You do a good job of keeping us (The Body) and The Bride (Israel) separate, even if unwittingly, in the simplicity of following Scripture. The Bride has always been Israel, we cannot be both Israel and the body. You've made some glorious remarks, I'd love to read your manuscript!
As concerns marriage in Heaven where our allotment is, I think it will pass away. I don't think we will even have the desires for connection anymore, being transformed into spiritual bodies (bodies that desires only as God so does for us, in contrast to the soulish body whose desires were made after the flesh; 1 Cor 15:44-46). Truly the former things are passing away; should all the former things be swallowed in the new or simply fade to black in fulfillment, we should rejoice, and being perfected both in spirit and body we will.

Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. 28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. 30 For we are members of His body,of His flesh and of His bones. 31 "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." 32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
It is clear in Eph 5 that to Paul the Bride is the church(assembly of the ecclesia), inclusive of Jewish believers. All those who have "betrothed themselves to Him".
Heb 12:22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
Heb 12:23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
I was just modifying my post to put that verse in it when I saw yout post Joeteekay
In my research on the Bride, I considered every possibility I could think of:
the church
the Church
racial Israel
spiritual Israel
the Jews
Mary Magdalene
the 144,000
a complete surprise.
After due diligence, my hypothesis [repeat, a hypothesis, so don't run with it] is that the Bride will be a corporate entity, made up of Overcomer Israelites.
Well thats a wonderful hypothesis, but in my opinion it doesnt incorporate all the scriptures, so it is wrong. ;o)

Marie, I think the answer was in front of me the whole time, but I did not see it until I read the above. I had thought the Church could not be the Bride, because a man does not marry his own body, does he? After many readings, the
Head of the body sinks in...
Thinking of the first Adam, wasn`t he male and female in the beginning of the creation of the image of God.....the female parts taken out in an operation to form Eve....so in a sense he did marry his own body when joined with Eve.

oh! it took me a few minutes to know what you were saying (it wasn't computing) but `head of the marriage`!
As stated by the publishers of the Concordant Commentary, the following words are suggestive thoughts. It seems to me that the command to divide, rightly divide the word is quoted only nominally. There must be real divisions inherent somewhere, this is true with the figures of Body and Bride. The Concordant Expositions are very keen on rightly dividing and they have great studies on Body and Bride.
"As is the case with every exhortation in the second division of the epistle, the deportment of husbands and wives is founded on the doctrine previously developed in the first division. A reference to the framework will show that it is based on the truth of the joint body. Wives are to be subject because the man is head of the woman as Christ is Head of the body. Husbands cannot be exhorted to love their wives on the ground that the ecclesia occupies this relation to Christ, for the faithful in Israel, who have no part in the blessings of this epistle, are figured as the wife or bride, not of Christ (an official title), but of the Lamb. Hence the argument of Eden is introduced showing that husband and wife become one flesh. Christ and the ecclesia are one body. Hence the husband is exhorted to love his wife as his own body, for it is thus that Christ loves the ecclesia. What limitless love is involved in the statement, "No one at any time hates his own flesh"! Men have hated their wives: Jehovah divorced His unfaithful wife (Jer.3:8-20). But Christ is so one with the members of His body that He cannot cast them off. Thus should a husband love his own wife, who has become one flesh with him. How exultantly precious is this close relationship to Him! What could be nearer? What could be dearer? Even evil, sinful men cannot hate their own bodies. So much the more Christ cannot but love us as He loves Himself! God grant that we may drink deeply of this delicious draught!"
Very nice!! :cloud9:
I was thinking about being bride and body.. sheep.. can the eagle or hen forget their young? and thinking it's like one metaphor to describe the relationship and His faithfulness is just not enough..
But the position of "head" is demonstrated twice! :Chinscratch: He is the sustenance of the body, and the inspiration and impulse (or should be) and head of the church, and head of each one of us, and also shepherd and bishop of our soul.. (psyche`/intellect) along with fortress and high tower.. "my Rock and my Deliverer"..my song and burnt offering of praise..

pure minded for that intimacy 2Corh 11
1I wish that you would bear with me in a little foolishness; but indeed you are bearing with me.
2For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy;
for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin.
3But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness,
your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.
the 5 wise and 5 foolish parable ?
I do believe the examples are in the scriptures comparing spiritual law with spiritual things
I see the example of the Woman born under law applies , the law is spiritual , but we are children underbondage the Agars as the earthly Jerusalem and as Ishmaels according to the flesh , those are the adopted sons so there you go !!
Gal 4 ...3So also we, while we were children, w
ere held in bondage under the elemental things of the world.

5so that He migh
t redeem those who were under the Law,
that we might receive the adoption as sons....ABBA FATHER as servants to sons to the glory of God in the earth/ natural as it is in heaven /spiritual and the discerning between the two .
Now the awesome part to me is , Birthing those sons of glory by the MOTHER OF US ALL NEW JERUSALEM !! We are no longer under the elements that must be melted with fervent heat , the LOVE OF GOD and consuming fire being HOLY SPIRIT pure and holy intimacy = conception

according to Jesus own word here ... We everyone are'' born of woman under the law'' or headship and authority of HOLY SPIRIT WITNESS
Matt 11 10"This is the one about whom it is written, 'BEHOLD, I SEND MY MESSENGER AHEAD OF YOU, WHO WILL PREPARE YOUR WAY BEFORE YOU.' 11"
Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist!
Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12"From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force.
I see the kingdom of God as a spiritual realm with those healed and given eyes to see and ears to hear and heart to understand / perceive and receive the promises '' all things ''of the Spirit as inheriting spiritual gifts though Jesus Christ
