The bible says there will be no marriage in heaven

Matthew 22:30 At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.

After learning of this it's kind of depressing to me. I want to marry my g/f because i love her and i want to be with her even in the after life. We both have genetic diseases so neither of us want to pass it on to our children. And if she got pregnant it could possibly kill her so we abstain. But it seems that there will be no marriage, sex or children in heaven.

Do any UR's have a deeper understanding of what the bible says about this kind of thing? Or does it really seem to mean what it says?

Marriage and the Family in the Resurrection

Here is an article that might help you on this. Marriage as we know it today will not exist but that doesn't mean we won't have partners. The marriage as we know it ends in death, there will be no death once we are spirit beings.

First, if marriage is eliminated, I think it will be replaced with something better.

Second, no marriage in heaven does not mean no marriage in the New Earth.  The conventional harp-on-a-cloud idea of Heaven is just as much a myth as fiery Hell.  No, based on what we are told in the Bible, Eternity looks like it will be spent mostly in/on the New Earth, including seed time and harvest.
Socrates taught Plato.  Plato taught Aristotle.  Aristotle tutored the son of Philip of Macedon.  This boy grew up to become Alexander the Great, largely by slaughtering a lot of people.  That's philosophy.

Jesus spoke the Truth.  He blessed the poor.  He healed the sick.  He even raised the dead.  He died on a cross for us, lived again, and came back long enough to tell us to love one another.  That's religion.

I think what Jesus taught is that there is no marriage in the resurrection. As long as there are mortals there will be marriage- but there will be no marriage in the resurrection, because we will become a higher kind of being

Mk 12:25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.

Hard to imagine perhaps, but as Laz said- certain to be awesome.

I've been married three times, but I've been celibate for seven years. Spiritual love is actually more fulfilling than physical pleasure. "God is love" (1 John 4:8,16)

I agree with the article which says there will be no 'ownership' and i remember the context of the story Jesus was told that the woman had seven husbands because her first died having not brought about any offspring, so then his brother had her as wife to bring the offspring.. and he died and so on through seven brothers (geesh! I would be very happy not to be her! :eek: :eek:)

"neither are they given in marriage" :banana: (arranged marriage, often financial in consideration). Somehow I don't think family bonds will be done away with "all families will rejoice before Him" Ps 22:27

I agree that family bonds and friendship bonds will abide into the resurrection. I think that where there was any deep love of true nature it will continue and it will manifest in glory, joy, fellowship and freedom in the presence of God.

46And while he was yet speaking to the multitudes, lo, his mother and brethren had stood without, seeking to speak to him, 47and one said to him, 'Lo, thy mother and thy brethren do stand without, seeking to speak to thee.' 48And he answering said to him who spake to him, 'Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?' 49And having stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, he said, 'Lo, my mother and my brethren! 50for whoever may do the will of my Father who is in the heavens, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.'

  Hi idontknow,

    I suppose I am no longer sad when I think that there will be no marriage in the resurrection, but I kinda was sad too, when I first heard about that future reality for the sons/daughters of God.  Especially when one is 'in love,' even the general thought that you could be separated from any of your beloved ones (due to a zillion possible scenarios) in this short time on earth, is a *very troublesome one indeed.  But loving another makes us all vulnerable, in that regard, because life in these flesh and blood bodies is so fragile!

  So we need the resurrected bodies.  We really do.  This mortal will put on immortality.  ( wow! )

And then when you and she are clothed with your new immortal body, who can say?!  We really (at least I don't) have a clue what God has prepared, but if I know Him at all, I'd say it's gonna knock our socks off...literally!  Holy Ground!  :girlheart:

  So I agree with the brethren here that it has to be a better situation than even what we feel is the BEST situation here, and for many, that would be....marital love.  Love is love and that my brother, will never end.  Because of Jesus.  He's SO Wonderful and He is not going to disappoint any of us.  You'll see (and so will I ) and everybody.

Mat_22:30  For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

In the resurrection, in the spirit realm and in the Kigdom of God there will not be marriage as we know it . However there is coming a marriage ceremony and the resurrected Elect will be married to Jesus Christ. Loyal and faithful to the Husband in a special spiritual relationship.

Rev_19:7  Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

Rev_19:9  And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

Mat_25:10  And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
3 John 4 - I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

MARRIAGE:  Gk. gamos - NUPTIALS, marriage, wedding. The CEREMONY and its proceedings including the 'marriage feast.'

That's the definition of marriage right out of the Bible. Now do you see sex, intercourse, or love in there?  No.  Let's read it again, nuptials, marriage, wedding - the ceremony. CEREMONY...  it's the ceremony and it's proceedings, including the marriage feast or the marriage supper or what we call in the western world 'the reception.'

NUPTIALS: Noun; 'A wedding CEREMONY' (Webster's Dictionary). Adjective; 'related to marriage or the wedding ceremony.'

That's the first definition by Dr. Strong, it is nuptials. It has nothing to do with having intercourse, loving each other, or producing children, nothing. It means a wedding ceremony.

Actually marriage s not consumated until there is intercourse, in history, culture, scripture etc. I think this is what Jesus was talking about, "giving in marriage" means more than the ceremony.

Until the consumation, there is only betrothal.

"Actually marriage s not consumated until there is intercourse, in history, culture, scripture etc."

Where in "scripture" is this revealed? I'm asking because I can't find that info. :Chinscratch:

The purpose of taking a brothers wife after his death was to preserve the brothers inheritance and lineage, for the sake of the wife, and for the sake of the name of her dead husband.

That's what the law was. That's what the "trick question" was about. There is no marriage without consumation- not to say there could not be love.

Genesis 24:67 Then Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent; and he took Rebekah and she became his wife, and he loved her.

The marriage ceremony was not complete until the consummation in the marriage tent, or bed or whatever :o)

21 Then Jacob said to Laban, "Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her." 22 And Laban gathered together all the men of the place and made a feast. 23 Now it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter and brought her to Jacob; and he went in to her. 24 And Laban gave his maid Zilpah to his daughter Leah as a maid. 25 So it came to pass in the morning, that behold, it was Leah. And he said to Laban, "What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served you? Why then have you deceived me?"

26 And Laban said, "It must not be done so in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn. 27 Fulfill her week, and we will give you this one also for the service which you will serve with me still another seven years."

28 Then Jacob did so and fulfilled her week. So he gave him his daughter Rachel as wife also. 29 And Laban gave his maid Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as a maid. 30 Then Jacob also went in to Rachel, and he also loved Rachel more than Leah. And he served with Laban still another seven years.

Jacob had to "fulfill her week", the idea to get her with child, because in the Jewish tradition having children was paramount as the blessing of marriage. The sexual part of the marriage ceremony goes on, a continuing celebration, producing manifestations of love, "be fruitful and multiply".

1 Corinthians 7:4 The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.

This is a part of the exchange in marriage, two become one flesh.

I don't see what scripture you gave as a conformation for ""Actually marriage s not consumated until there is intercourse, in history, culture, scripture etc."

I did not see the word marriage used in any of what you said.  :2c:

I think "She became his wife" is the same as marriage ;o)

I agree EW  :thumbsup:

The marriage of Christ to His bride at the resurrection is the consummation of that marriage.
Being one with Him and with Him always.
That which is physical is physical, that which is spiritual is spiritual.
We have no idea how that new relationship will feel.
The ecstasy and joy will far surpass any fleshly pleasures.

If there is NO marriage in the resurrection, then why is the marriage of the Lamb in the resurrection?

The Hebrew word for 'know' implies marriage intimacy. Is that the meaning in Mt 7?
Quote
Mt 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Why would he say Ï have never been intimate with you, if the marriage wasn't until later?

Aren't the goals of the marriage to be 'fruitful and multiplying"?  Isn't the church now supposed to have the fruit of the Spirit? and multiply by making disciples?

Isn't marriage becoming one flesh?  So what is the body of Christ now?

eaglesway

The marriage I am speaking of is marriage between male and female humans, which is the marriage Jesus was speaking of, I believe, when He said, there will be no marrying and giving in marriage for they will be like the angels in heaven.

The marriage of Christ and the Bride will be something other than the earthly union between men and women.

Seems like we are married already to the Lord even though in state of bethrothal???  :)  That`s a question,  btw

We are one spirit with the Lord now but wait the redemption of our bodies.  Ongoing marriage proceedings....   ?

Actually, the research I did for my (as yet) unfinished manuscript on the Bride of Christ indicates that it will be the remarriage of Christ and His Bride.  Remember that He married corporate Israel at Sinai, and later divorced Israel [and Judah] with cause (infidelity).  The death of Jesus the Christ ends the old marriage ties, and makes the remarriage possible.

"I will betroth you to Me forever;
Yes, I will betroth you to Me
In righteousness and justice,
In lovingkindness and mercy;
I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness,
And you shall know the Lord.
"It shall come to pass in that day
That I will answer," says the Lord;
"I will answer the heavens,
And they shall answer the earth.
The earth shall answer
With grain,
With new wine,
And with oil;
They shall answer Jezreel,
Then I will sow her for Myself in the earth,
And I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy;
Then I will say to those who were not My people,
'You are My people!'
And they shall say, 'You are my God!'" (Hosea 2:19-23)

Beautiful Word.  :)

Just finished reading commentaries on the above verses too, with my roommate. We`ve been at this for hours and hours trying to unwrap this mystery of betrothal/marriage to the Lamb. Wish you all could join us.....well, someday.

He is our God.  And we are so thankful for His love. (She`s over there singing songs of joy now to our King. )
