Such as dictionaries, lexicons, etc? Can be old or modern.
I think there's lots of options, but I really like - http://biblehub.com/interlinear/genesis/1-1.htm - and I have their app on my phone - my favorite tools on it is the interlinear with links to the hebrew or greek, and the parallel lists of verses.
Although even in the interlinears and lexicons, translators still run with some of the meanings :mshock:
I've heard a lot of folks say they like e-Sword.. (well, read it) - It looks really good, but I'm used to biblehub.. Though e-sword looks like it may be even better..
You likely know - https://www.biblegateway.com - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/
http://www.scripture4all.org/ I used the "Interlinear Scripture Analyzer" for a while until my windows xp crashed..
I want to check out this site one of these days - http://qbible.com/
God bless you, James.
What are called Bible dictionaries, are to me, encyclopedias. What are called lexicons, are in reality, dictionaries (someone's definition of a word). What I've always used are concordances to track words myself. I know of no better or honest way than to look at every occurrence of a Hebrew or Greek word in its context, to translate it into current English. Obviously this may or may not be time consuming, depending on the frequency of the particular word, but you will bypass the ecclesiastical baggage and theology of translators.
Decades ago I started with James Strong & associates 1879 Exhaustive Concordance because they used numbers to track every Greek and Hebrew word if you're unfamiliar with the languages. I later switched to a more critical Greek to English concordance: E.W. Bullinger's 1877 Critical Concordance to the English and Greek NT. Both Strong and Bullinger are keyed to the King James Version (KJV). Then I added Hatch and Redpath's 1897-1906 Concordance to the OT Greek Septuagint. That one is entirely Greek, so it can be "heavy sledding," even with an interlinear Septuagint.
These books were Herculean efforts, done without today's computers, printers, or modern communication. It was a consuming labor of love, done so others could find and better understand "it is written."
As you can see I'm old school and I will have to look into online and electronic references, like Marie posted, especially as my eyes age.
As the Lord Jesus said: the scribes (writers) and Pharisees built grievously heavy burdens to be laid upon people's shoulders, but they would not touch them with even a finger. Causing others to stumble and fall in faith is not whimsical, it is wicked. As Peter wrote: the purifying of our faith is much more precious than the purifying of gold. Though both are purified by fire (parabole), the physical gold will perish, but our faith will issue in praise, honor and glory before Jesus Christ.
I will put up a post somewhere about parabole.
I myself use E-Sword simply because the verses can be viewed with or without the Strong's numbers, what I like the most about it is the ability to just put the cursor over the number to see the original meaning, then also by clicking on it, it brings it up in another window where you can reference what words they originated from.
I started out using hard copies of concordances, had one for the NASB and the KJV, but I feel because of the numbering system it makes it much easier to study the original meanings, and I also feel because of studying from the original meanings UR becomes more apparent and it takes you away from the ET mindset.
In my opinion, it is because of these things that my faith in UR has become stronger and now, nothing anyone out in this world says can deter me from what I have come to understand.
Blessings
Biblehub.com has excellent, wide range of resources easily accessible. You can look at each verse or a whole chapter in Hebrew and Greek just by clicking the appropriate resource at the top of the page. Very easy to use.
Bible hub is a fav of mine as well bros and sistas .. :dsunny:
Wonderful and simple to use and very informative.
Google search for names and meanings and places has been very useful , just prayerfully ask the Good Lord to show you His ways and truth , He never fails us and is the best source possible .
Prayer changes things . I am a huge believer in prayer especially over your enemies .
I did not realize my own carnal mind was the biggest enemy of all [it is death] till the Lords Spirit of Life / breath blowing on us began to teach us differently and show us Life and mercy and grace over the power of the enemy .[death]
The fear in the lies against the TRUTH , oh my goodness , it is a bondage of torment and pain and sorrow of not knowing the TRUTH , The Truth that sets you free in liberty and freedom to praise GOD with a clean heart and praying for others to have that same freedom and peace in you that surpasses all understanding ,
it is a sure thing to trust in God and know His love for all His new creation .
It sure is a peace that the world has never offered anyone ever , those are the times of refreshing when you Know God is in 100 % complete control .
Best times ever quickening your mortal bodies with more and more Life and Light moving within you and destroying that dark death till there be no places to hide or rise up and take over in you ,
it does get easier to overcome the darkness with Light when you practice obedience to Gods desire /Word , that seed in growing by His grace till the TRUTH has its complete rule & ultimate power or authority over death our last enemy to overcome in CHRIST whom strengthens us who believe in HIM to do it :2c:
