What is the meaning of propitiation?
What it is not= the appeasing of an angry deity.
Our word for today is hilaskomai.
The ghastly idea of propitiating an angry deity was used by the Greeks in making the gods propitious & something to be earned first. It is foreign in the N.T. & Septuagint Scriptures!
Hilaskomai actually means reconciliation, a covering as in the words kaphar & kopher, IOW our Father Abba's Mercy Seat.
His love & grace reaching out to enfold us into Himself.
"He is the at-one-ment for our sins & NOT for our sins ONLY but for the sins of the whole world."
Hilasmos = atonement
We have a Priest-Friend in the Presence of Abba. He has solved the sin problem for good, not only ours, but the sins of the whole/pas world.
Jesus Christ is the hilasmos of the holos!

I just don't feel Abba has this problem with 'sin', in the same way man has - man has only mostly eaten of the one tree. I appreciate I will be told "obviously he does have a problem Age, or Jesus wouldn't have had to die", but no-one was there, or at least remembers being there in the garden - we don't have the luxury of a verifiable narrative, and a clear view of what is metaphor, and what that metaphor means as a spiritual reality.
Most of Christian doctrine, especially atonement doctrine, is piled on top of other doctrines and orthodoxies - 'right' views or ways of thinking / rationalising what is supposed to be the reality.
I don't perceive God as having a problem that He needed to fix, in the Genesis narrative. I read it as being man that had the issue - he felt separate / naked, and projected that onto God, effectively blaming Him - lots of other stuff happened as well (we're not told, just like gap theory). And behold, God has a problem with man that He has to solve, in the most bizarre of ways; by blaming something else. Really!?, even God goes around blaming others (or Himself - for the Trinitarians), so we feel better, or are moved by guilt to accept such a crazy notion...?
I'm just weighing and testing it, in my spirit - where The Word resides, based on how I've come to view Abba. Thank you for your patience.
Jesus Christ is the propitiation, so He is both the mercy seat AND the blood on the mercy seat!
What we do see is Jesus, made not quite as high as angels, and then, through the experience of death, crowned so much higher than any angel, with a glorybright with Eden's dawn light. In that death, by Gods grace, he fully experienced death in every persons place.
It makes good sense that the God who got everything started and keeps everything going now completes the work by making the Salvation Pioneer perfect through suffering as he leads all these people to glory. Since the One who saves and those who are saved have a common origin, Jesus doesn't hesitate to treat them as family, saying,
I tell my good friends, my brothers and sisters, all I know about you; l'll join them in worship and praise to you. -The Message-

Our dear Father has in His great & glorious purpose a wonderful plan conceived in Himself to bring us Home. The Prince-Leader, the Master of reconciliation has come & graduated from what He emptied Himself (ECHAD) to becoming a man. That "man" pioneered Sonship where we the broken and bruised members of Adam one can become those with the same stature as the Prince. Not merely Christians, not saints only, sons of the Living God.
The whole of created life groans in painful tension waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God.
