I was in discussion elsewhere, and the idea of gender indentification came up in the discussion. 

In the past have discovered that there is a single term in the Greek and/or Hebrew which is translated in different ways -- he, she, it, himself, them, themselves, etc... and is dependent upon the context as to which of these it is translated into... (if the one referred to has already been gender identified in the context)

Anyone got recall of this?  I would appreciate any input...

You might be speaking of the Greek word autos, which is basically a universal pronoun for referring to a person, although the understanding of what gender it's referring to means comes from its form rather than from its context.
