The risen Christ preaches to the dead!
"Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: by which also he went and preached to the spirits in prison; which once were disobedient, when once the long suffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was in preparation, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water...for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit."

Amen "the dead know nothing" but will hear each in their own order for Jesus shall draw all to Himself.. I believe Jesus went via the Spirit and preached while the ark was being prepared.. If He was elsewhere but "in the grave for 3 nights and 3 days" going to a centuries long imprisonment, why would He only preach to those who perished in the flood? Especially as the gospel was not yet released to the nations/gentiles.. When, also, it makes more logic to preach to them before the flood, then when they rise that preaching of the Lord's Spirit to them will play a big part in their reconciliation upon great day of atonement.. typified by the collective, annual Day of Atonement instituted by God to ancient Israel? ..where all those things are said to be shadows/examples of the real thing.
And 2 Peter 2:5 says Noah was a preacher.. the Spirit of the Lord, of course had preached through him.. (Let scripture interpret scripture..?)

The OT was the dust of the earth was the lower part of earth.. sheol, where the worms were the bed and covering, Is.14; Ps.30.. It was the belief of the nations that all, besides Yhvh were immortal. 1 Tim.6:16 "God alone is immortal" and thus disobedient citizens could be punished forever in their naturally occurring immortality (w/o Jesus). King James could get away with all that projecting of the nation's beliefs into the bible, but nowadays we all have bibles and have the freedom to read them which of course is how we get from a Picasso type picture, at best.. to the beautiful landscape which is the Father's administration of the ages/ His will. (What He is doing, and how, and why. The answers of course, make UR/CU immoveable and clear. ...Removes every last dreg of 'hell'..
"All in the tombs (graves) will hear His voice and rise.. some to the resurrection of life" (at His return/appearing) "and some to the resurrection of judgment" Jn.5:28

What is the 2nd death? The 1st was all in Adam die.. (Adam's death). The second - also projected upon - is "death and the grave were/will be :gsmile: cast into the lof - this, is the 2nd death". That of death! The "last enemy/opposition defeated", and its true partner, the grave. :banana: ...and the death of all sorrow, pain, etc..

:cloud9: It's not saying ONLY those that died during the time of Noah were preached to; it's saying as what FineLinen quoted, ALL MEN'S souls are poured out like water on the ground that cannot be gathered up again, BUT 8 were saved WITHOUT having to die to the body to gain salvation. This is no different than what Paul talked about with the resurrection while still in the body, as opposed to dying to the body and then gaining it, or for that matter what the message was in the fact that both Moses (died and was caught up) and Elijah (caught up in body) "gave" by being by His side in the transformation. That is, that there are TWO ways to gain it, one while in the body, one after the body has been laid down. One represents the salvation of the soul, the other, the spirit returning to the One that gave it. Blessings.....
I think inherent immortality / eternal life without Jesus is the gentile myth - all have been taught over and over and over, which most supports the hell myth..
But that Jesus said that "all in the tombs (graves) will hear His voice and will rise.. some in the resurrection to life" (at His return, 1 Thess.4) and some in the resurrection of judgment" JN.5:28-29.
And 2 Peter 2:9 says "God is able to preserve the unjust" (the not yet just! :gsmile: ) "for correction, on 'day' of judgment" - what Jesus called "the judgment" which follows "the thousand years"/millennium.. The judgment I think of as their 'Day' of Atonement, ours being "today" being about the only difference..
:Chinscratch: ..but I do believe the verse is referring only to those who were outside the ark laughing as Noah built.. in 2 Peter, Peter writes how Noah was a preacher.. So to me, that's when Jesus went and preached to them..
"He also went and preached-to the spirits in prison - who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah - while the ark was being built." (1 Pet.3:18) ["in prison" I don't believe in an afterlife prison, but I believe this is a figurative way of saying they were locked into judgment - unless or until they turned and went thus into the ark..
