"He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things."

Fill= plhrovw=

To fill up. To make full.

To cause to abound.

To render full.

To render complete.

To fill to the top.

To make complete in every particular.

To carry through to the end, or consummation.

To bring to realization.

To cause the will of God to be fulfilled.

Oooo, well, that rules out Hell being separation from God (as is the orthodox thinking) as some things would be lacking God. And would you not lack everything if you were extinguished from existence?

Plus, of course, it has the more glorious message, apart from all thoughts of Hell/annihilation, of all things being made perfect and filled completely in Christ.  :bigGrin:

interesting verse, all things = Gr. ta panta = the whole, meaning the universe as far as I know

Ta pavnte is the strongest word for all in the New Covenant. It literally means the all.

#1 -Rom. 11:36

"From Him everything comes, through Him everything exists and in Him everything ends."

Ta pavnte= the all things.

Ta pavnte = in the absolute sense of the whole of creation, the universe. Of everything in heaven and earth that is in need of uniting and redeeming. From Him ta pavnte comes, through Him ta pavnte exists, and in Him ta pavnte ends.

#2. -Eph. 1:-

"He has made known to us the secret of His will. And this is in harmony with God's merciful purpose for the government of the world when the times are ripe for it--the purpose which He has cherished in His own mind of restoring the whole creation to find its one Head in Christ; yes, things in heaven and things on earth, to find their one Head in Him. And you too, who in Him were made heirs, having been chosen beforehand in accordance with the intention of Him whose might carries out in everything the design of His own will."

The all things in the heavens, the all things in the earth, and you who once were dead in trespasses and sins. That in the dispensation of the fulness of times He might gather together in one, the ta pavnte en/in Christ.

#3 -Col. 1:20

"God purposed through Him to reconcile the universe to Himself, making peace through His blood...to reconcile to Himself through Him, I say, things on earth and things in heaven. And you..."

The all things (the ta pavnte) in the heavens, the all things (the ta pavnte) in the earth, and you who once were dead in trespasses and sins. God has purposed to reconcile the universe (the ta pavnte) to Himself. The ta pavnte/ the all, encompasses the ta pavnte on the earth and the ta pavnte in the heavens. The ta pavnte= the all, the whole enchilada.

Ta pavnte = in the absolute sense of the whole of creation, the universe. Of everything in heaven and earth that is in need of uniting and redeeming.

Isaiah 45:22-24 (Amplified Bible)

22Look to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.

    23I have sworn by Myself, the word is gone out of My mouth in righteousness and shall not return, that unto Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear [allegiance].

    24Only in the Lord shall one say, I have righteousness (salvation and victory) and strength [to achieve]. To Him shall all come who were incensed against Him, and they shall be ashamed.

I brought this up to one of my friends who believes in separation from God for all eternity (which he would call Hell, but he doesn't believe in a literal flaming Hell, and it'd be more along the lines of eternal conscious torment). Anyway, he was trying to suggest that those of "every knee" and "every tongue" might simply be all those after the seven year tribulation who stand before God, rather than, somehow, every being ever created.

Do you have any idea on how this verse should be thought of in context? When Paul uses it in the NT he seems to suggest it as all beings that have ever been created (especially in Philippians):

Philippians 2:9-11 (Young's Literal Translation)

wherefore, also, God did highly exalt him, and gave to him a name that [is] above every name,

10that in the name of Jesus every knee may bow -- of heavenlies, and earthlies, and what are under the earth --

11and every tongue may confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

and again in Romans:

Romans 14:10-12 (Young's Literal Translation)

10And thou, why dost thou judge thy brother? or again, thou, why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand at the tribunal of the Christ;

11for it hath been written, `I live! saith the Lord -- to Me bow shall every knee, and every tongue shall confess to God;'

12so, then, each of us concerning himself shall give reckoning to God;

I mean, honestly it seems pretty hard to pull anything out of it but the "all things" of the entire universe, but if you could provide any further input that'd be awesome!
