Hello, I am a searching heart for God....the true God. I yearn to know the truth, not what I was indoctrinated with as soon as I was saved in July 1992. My husband and I are on a journey to release the indoctrination, and to step by baby step learn what we believe and why we believe it.
Right now, everything just seems so much to take in. My husband and I are slowly reading through the book "If Grace is True" by Philip Gulley, we are only on chapter 2,and already have tons of questions. I think most of the questions stem from the indoctrination, like the tribulation and rapture? I had always been confused on this, nothing seems to completely support when etc.

I believe God will bless your heart with knowledge of who he is and what he is.
He will show you many things, but I know the process of de-indoctrination is overwhelming.
Just have faith, and remain steadfast and humble.

Welcome! I know what it's like to be indoctrinated and the overwhelmingness of the realization that most everything you have believed for years and years of your life is a complete load of bull. It's overwhelming at first but quickly turns to relief and joy as He sets us free from all of the lies we have been in bondage to for so long. I have been out of the Babylonian church system for about 3-4 years now and still have much to unlearn but He promised me a little over a year ago that He was going to lighten the load that religion had put on me and He HAS!! And I am convinced He will do the same for you and all who call on His name for Truth.

Some people and some cults have a message focusing on stuff that frankly, it doesn't matter what you believe about it
(When or how or why or who or what) because what you believe about stuff that is mentioned in only a few verses in vague terms isn't nearly as important as what the bible says about the only two things that really matter.
1. Loving and honoring God
2. Love and honoring others.
Read the various translations of the Bible and listen to what God is telling you.
No person knows the complete truth. Read more of God's word and take what any person says about God's word with a grain of salt
For example, what the catholics have done venerating Mary and praying to her rather than Jesus when she is barely mentioned... and certainly not sinless as the catholic church proclaims. "For ALL (regular people)have sinned"

That was the exact verse He used jbb. He showed me that His yoke IS easy and His burden IS light but for me (and so many others) it had been very heavy, with so much loaded on from religion (see where Jesus speaks to the Pharisees about putting huge burdens on their followers... same deal today). Well what a huge relief to come out from Babylon and stop sharing in her plagues! And to be taught by the Spirit of Truth rather than the doctrines of men... well the Truth sets us free. :HeartThrob:

I love that the New Testament is actually such a slim volume.. Now that I've been reading it for 34 years, I try to read a gospel each season - four seasons, four gospels.. starting with the earliest..
And also read from the rest of the New Testament, starting with Acts, then the letters in the order they were written. These being the most important for us, able to straighten all things out.
All the doctrinal points become very clear, in my opinion (imo) with the knowing of His Word for our selves. We have different translations, from the free flowing modern versions, to the poetic sounding King James.. I like to read a chapter in one, and then another. (And prayer for truth before each reading.)
And of course, the Strong's Exhaustive Concordances/Lexicons, for the King James, or for the New American Standard.. and maybe some online, so we can trace words and wording back to the original language (intent) used..
I think this is where 'the church' went wrong.. reading too much about the Word instead of reading, studying, digesting The Word itself.

I think we experience the religion thing to give us a contrast to the spirit of truth much like darkness and light, and I think it sure makes us appreciate the spirit of truth a whole lot more after we break out of churchianity.

Amen, brother. Loving God and your neighbor is what it's all about. I know about that Catholic stuff too. My 89 year old dad still says his hail Marys every day. I turned him on to scripture, but he's a die hard Catholic even though I know he loves God and his neighbor. I got out of the Catholic Church when I was a young man because I knew something wasn't right. I had to go through some other crazy stuff too though before I finally found the truth.
