Title: New to Tenmaker Forum
Post by: cmksiu2005 on May 22, 2011, 05:05:40 AM
Hello! Just wanted to introduce myself here to the forum. I actually found out about tentmaker by accident. Last year my father passed away from pneumonia stemming from his chemotherapy treatments. I got a call saying pneumonia had come upon him suddenly and that he may not make it through the day. I thought of all the times I had spoken to him about Christianity and we had many debates about the subject. I had never heard about the doctrine of Universal reconciliation before so needless to say I was very worried about my dad. I got in my car and drove the 3 hour road trip and didn't even make it up halfway when I got the call that he was gone. I was devastated, I didn't even have the chance to say goodbye, let alone try to get him to turn to Christ before he died. The funeral was hard, a well- meaning friend asked if he was a Christian and all I could say was "I hope so..". My brother and I grew pretty close during that time and he forwarded me an article about some people who say they found Noah's Ark. I saw the article but remained skeptical about it. I googled it and saw an article exposing the previous "discovery" by Ron Wyatt (back in 1987 I think). The article was here at tentmaker (funny how that happened). After I read the article I explored the website and very soon found out that it was all about Jesus saving everybody and that all would be reconciled to Him. I really wanted to believe it but I wanted to research further about the subject. The articles presented very convincing arguments and even found out one of my ancestors (Benjamin Rush, signer of the declaration of independence) eventually became convinced of universalism. I found that out on this website! Right now I would say I believe in UR but am not the best at articulating the beliefs of it yet. I've talked with my wife about it and she's still not convinced which is understandable. It was a real shocker to me and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. I thank you Gary Amirault and everyone who contributed to this website for what you are doing! Out of all the apologetics for various subjects regarding Christianity that I've read over the years, I don't think I've ever read any that were as well researched as this website. Sorry that this is such a long first post. Thanks again

wow.  Benjamin Rush--one of my heroes!

Have you seen wallbuilders.com?  They sell a book on him.

This illustrated biographical work highlights the life of Dr. Benjamin Rush, a great American hero and role model. At the time of his death in 1813, he was heralded as one of America's three most notable men, along with George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. He was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, served under three Presidents, helped found five universities and colleges, is titled "The Father of American Medicine," led both the abolition and prison reform movements, and founded American Sunday Schools and the nation's first Bible Society. Rush integrated his staunch Christian beliefs into every facet of his life. In addition to outlining his many remarkable accomplishments, this book includes numerous excerpts from his personal writings.
312 pages.

Wow, great testimony.  I hope you become an active member here.

Your dad has or will bow and confess at the feet of Jesus - and God will lovingly lift Him up to be with Him through the ages.  God's judgments bring righteousness and the end of the Lord is full of mercy.

Blessings to you.  Be patient and loving with your wife.  She will come around.  James.

Wow! Thank you all for your warm welcome! Molly, thanks for the link about the Benjamin Rush book. I've heard David Barton speak on him before on a radio show a few years back. However I didn't know that he also wrote a book on him too. I will have to pick that up here in the not so distant future! Thank you Jabcat for your kind words and to everyone else here for your warm welcome. God bless!!
