Title: New here
Post by: Nessa915 on November 27, 2010, 08:48:24 AM
I am new here, I found this sure through a random web search. I was raised as a catholic, but have found myself questioning my beliefs more and more as I go through a tough time in my life. I look forward to discussing this with others in the same predicament.

Welcome Nessa915  :hugs:

I'm sorry you are going through a tough time.  I do believe one day you will look back and see that in this trial and because of your questioning, you were led down a new and closer walk with God. It can be painful to reconsider all that you believe, but as you study you will either be brought back to understand it better and know why you believe it ... or you will be asked to surrender certain beliefs and they will be replaced in wonderful (and surprising) ways by the Holy Spirit.

Seek and knock and ask; pray that He protects you from being deceived and leads you to what He wants you to understand. And as much as you are able, enjoy the journey   :HeartThrob:

I am Catholic as well, so if there are any Catholic-ish questions I can help you with please let me know.   :grouppray:

The problem with Catholicism seems to be that you're taught what to believe, rather than being encouraged to learn what to believe. Most people I know of, Martian Luther, my pastor, who stopped being Catholics, did so because they read the New Testament for themselves. They read the Word for themselves and then said, "hey wait a minute, something's not right in what I've been taught, from what I've learned after reading this.

:cloud9: Exactly. My mother's side of the family converted to Catholicism at one point, so my mother and her brothers and sisters grew up in it. My uncle said they were told by the priest pertaining to the Bible, "Don't bother to try to read it, only a bible scholar can understand it." That, and mass being in Latin, insured that they never got any spiritual food whatsoever. Once they read it for themselves though, it was a whole new ballgame, and they left. Blessings....
