Something always holds me back in the faith...Im scared to let God right in me.
Part of the reason is that im scared ill let him down, as i have done many times.
Im also afraid that i wont be 'me' anymore, but letting God take control of me, it really scares me... Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Also, why does God care about us? Why does he want us? I know this is pretty basic stuff, and I would like to think that I had gotten beyond all these thoughts after many years, but it seems I've went WAY back to step 1 again.
Psalm 8:4 >>
NIVĀ© What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?
Why would the creator of ALL things want me? It's scary.
I mean, God has everything right? He doesnt need anything. If he wanted a perfect human being he could go "whoosh" in the blink of an eye and make as many as he wanted to love him.
Please forgive me, i just dont understand at this point. I know God is superior to me but i keep feeling myself holding back, afraid of where he might take me.
He doesn't want robots.
He want's mature sons that He can make heirs to His throne.
Just like a family on earth.

I suppose hes perfect and there is only ONE way to be perfect i guess.
I was just thinking, if i had a son or daughter i wouldnt want them to be like me, or i wouldnt try to make them like me, but in some ways i would...well i would at least want them to take all the 'good' parts from me, and not be like me when it comes to my 'bad' parts.
So, i guess God is the same in some ways, only he is ALL good?
Sorry im just thinking aloud here.

Hi to you jesushandsarekindhands,
Your question is not unique. Many folks hold back at the thought of submitting themselves to a higher authority. They do not want to acknowledge the 'I Am' as 'master of my fate'. Fear and trust are two sides of the same coin. How could we not be in awe of God? How could we not trust such a power? Perhaps if we keep 'a low profile' he won't find us - baloney!
If you are willing to bow before Him, His "perfect love casts out fear". You need only to 'trust and obey' to align yourself with the most awesome force in the universe. Since this is easier to say than do, many have taught 'spiritual disciplines' to help us get to a place of greater obedience and understanding.
I sounds to me like you want to understand more and begin to diminish the clouds of doubt that surround you. If you have been called by God, do something that will draw you closer to God. What spiritual disciplines have you been pursuing?
----------
(Said of Jerusalem)...Zephaniah 3:1 Woe to her who is rebellious and polluted, To the oppressing city! 2 She has not obeyed His voice, She has not received correction; She has not trusted in the LORD, She has not drawn near to her God.
Proverbs 3: 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

Most of the songs are just scripture put to music.
The song of John the Baptist from Godspell only has SEVEN words.
PREPARE YE THE WAY OF THE LORD
Let the Lord do His good works in you. Be HIS Way!

Good analogy - if you had a son or daughter that child, by nature, would be a lot like you. But no matter how much it depended on you for it's survival or differed from you, you would still love that child.

That's right and i would only want what was best for them....id try to help them all i could, but at the same time, id stand back and let them go their own way, but id always be there for them if they needed me.
I think the hard thing for me is that I'm coming from a very dark place in my mind right now.
For years i've been living with no hope, in fear, confusion etc etc.
And now im hearing this news that God loves me, he always has and he wants what i ALWAYS wanted...For everyone to be saved and live in peace forever...
...All of it just seems to good to be true somehow...Im having a hard time accepting it, and im very afraid that if i DO accept it.....I might be so full of joy I'd skip down the street singing to everyone in a very loud Mario Lanza voice that God loves them all....Seriously ive been living in so much misery even a small shred of happiness sometimes tips me over the edge, if i end up believing that God is going to save me, my friends, family, my enemies, well i could be so in paradise on Earth that i might have a few problems fitting in with normal society.
But....If Jesus was depicted as 'a man of sorrows'....Does that mean that God isnt happy?
:cloud9: I think He was a man of sorrows because His beloved Israel rejected Him. He did weep over Jerusalem.
And a question; have you ever prayed and asked God to remove all doubt and unbelief from your heart? You know, we all have "an evil heart of unbelief" that must be dealt with. It's the same thing that kept the Israelites from entering into their promised land. Our promised land is Christ which is our rest from all our works, and that an evil heart of unbelief will keep us from entering into Him as well. Blessings....

but that would be a good 'problem'...
Hebrews 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

I will soon Cardinal, im just a bit lost right now, i have to be sure, i dont want to go with him this time and turn away from him again, it just wouldnt be right. Can i give up my sins? Can i stop being gay as many believe is a sin. I dont know. I need a lot of time on this one.
You can do nothing!
He does it!
He cleans the temple!
