Title: Hello
Post by: ancestor on June 20, 2011, 06:42:24 PM
I am here because I was doing some research on my family tree, and found out that 3 or 4 generations ago, my ancestors were Universalists. So, I have come here to learn more about Universalism, and what my ancestors believed in.

Thanks.

What kind of universalists? Christian universalists or just Universalists?

Hi WhiteWings. They were Christian Universalists, from Marlow, New Hampshire. They settled in Stanstead, a township of the Eastern Townships, Quebec. This was around 1800. My ancestors' family name was White. I have been able to corroborate that they were Christian Universalists through several sources. Their community in Stanstead was called the Marlow Settlement. This settlement was composed of many different families from Marlow. My ancestors were just part of them.

I was wondering how different their beliefs would be from today's Christian Universalists. But I guess that will take more research on my part.

Thanks.

THE Christian Universalist doesn't exist and never existed I think.
I think there isn't much differebce between now and then.
People on this forum even read books written by persons that lived in the 1800's

I see. So you asked previously if they were "Christian Universalists," and now you say that "Christian Universalists" never existed? That seems rather confusing, if not contradictory.

Hi ancestor, welcome!
Whitewings is right, there are many differing views among Christian universalists. Until we are all opened up to the whole Truth that will be the case. :)
Enjoy your searching, sounds like fun!

If this was around the late 1800's...  Your ancestors probably read some of A.P. Adams...

By "THE" I meant to say that nobody believes exactly the same thing. There are disagreements on this little forum. There are disagreements among people of other denominations. The are disagreements among sports fans of a certain team.
Such a simple questionand I'm complicating it  :icon_jokercolor:
The average Christian Universalist in the 1800's is the same as the average Christian Universalist  right now. But you will be able to find differences. To name a few. So do some don't believe in trinity, water baptism, free will, etc
