Greetings from NC, USA,
My name is Carol.
I heard about Tentmaker via a yahoo listserve and via The Beautiful Heresy (http://euniversalism.forum5.com/index.php) discussion board.
I first heard about CU around March, 2007. It prompted me to not throw out the bible and has gotten me searching it again. I am enjoying Tom Talbott's research immensely and enjoying some online discussions with other CU as well as reading other material here and there on the web.
I don't know if I will post much, simply because of the time factor. But folks have posted links to threads I can't read unless I'm registered. :Sparkletooth: So....waalaa!!!!

We (hubby, myself, and the 2 offspring) lived in Charlotte for a year near McAlpine Park, if you know where that is. We moved from there in 1997.
I worked at Discovery Place for about 5 years (97ish through 2001ish) as a Camp-In presenter in the rain forest and then as on on-site Camp-In director. The Camp-In activities were canned a few years ago. All that to say that if you ever visited a Camp- In, we may have met. :Sparkletooth:

No, not a ranger. :happy3: Discovery Place is a science center in Charlotte, NC. It used to be the biggest in the Southeast, but I don't know about now.
Camp-In was a program druing the fall and spring of each year where groups (school, scout, church, etc.) of up to 400 people would spend the night in the museum. Each year we had a Camp-In theme which presentations would revolve around.
Each presenter would hold a 45ish minute class. Groups of 25 or so would rotate between the classes. We had about 4 different classes each year revolving around the theme.
A director did lots of behind the scenes set-up etc.,overseeing "stuff" and would handle any "issues" that might arise. With 250 to 400 people, something always came up. :grin:
That's it in a nutshell!

I'm trying to recall, did Dale grow up around Kanapolis? I was thinking too, he spent time around Conover....or is that one of those other drivers.
My mom grew up in Balls Creek. Her daddy was one of the founding men for the Camp Meeting. Mom's maiden name is Drum. If you live anywhere around Conover, surely you've met some Drums? lol

Camp Meetings still take place there, though I haven't been since I was a little girl. The main thing I remember were the paddle balls and that sticky stuff to blow bubbles with out the end of a straw. :happygrin:
Short story: A few years back I took my mom to her church home coming at Pisgah Methodist, in or near Balls Creek. A book was on display at the homecoming about the 150 year anniversary of the Balls Creek Camp Meeting Ground. It is a very nice historical book with lots of photos, etc.
Anyway, I asked mom if she'd like one; they were $25 and she thought the price was too high. :winkgrin: So I encouraged her to look through one with me....and low and behold....there is a whole-page spread photo of her family, with some notes about her dad and his influence. We bought a few books. lol

Good Morning Carol. :dsunny: Thanks for sharing that with me......I love historical things. That's neat about your mother and her family. I clicked on the link and read a little bit.......those historical wooden tents are so cool.......look like little cabins. Do people still stay in them.....or is there a new section?
Yup, they are cool....well as long as they have air conditioning. :winkgrin: And some do now...but I think only window units.
After you asked about the tents, my memory switch flipped. I have visited the Camp Meeting since I was a little girl, about 12 years ago. I took my mom and dad and daughter. The tent cabins are still in use, but have been upgraded. The atmosphere was very much the same as I recall when I was young....Mayberry RFD. :bgdance:
I don't know if new units have been built in addition to the old ones or not. :dontknow:
I like historical stuff too. It really helps put life in perspective....both from where we as humans have been....and the significance of what we do now that influences our place in the culture/society where we live.
I'm a big believer in the ripple effect....enough small ripples help tip the balance. :thumbsup:

It is a little late to welcome you here ... but as a newby... and reading the intro's to familiarize myself with everyone ... 'hi hi' ... have a question... am unfamiliar with the term CU, could you fill me in?
I too am not sure how often I will be posting due to time factors... and my writings elsewhere... but hope to read... even if the time to respond regularly is not opened up for me.

I think I have read the initials CU to stand for Christian Universalism. So that is what I meant by CU.
