Over the last few weeks I have been spiritually running on empty. Its not that I have felt far from God, its that I have not felt God at all! Last night I was in bed just looking up at the ceiling and asking for a sign. I was thinking an angel might pop out the wardrobe or something. Or I might here a voice, just something. Well I didn't see, hear anything. I have a book of Quotes on my bedside table, I thought hey maybe God will speak to me through this book. Its a book of quotes which are arranged under themes like, music, solitude etc. I thought I would look for something under faith. I opened it about a quarter of the way through and the head line was Evolution !! I was thinking oh is this my sign! I sort of chuckled becuase I had asked for a sign of God and got Evolution which in its purest form in my understanding means no God. So then I opened the book again randomly and the headline was God and then I burst out laughing. I said out loud, "you have a great sense of humour! " and then I felt a bit irreverent saying that. I looked down and the first quote my eyes landed on was, to paraphrase, I do not understand why people think that it is disrespectful to suggest God has a sense of humour'. I was floored. Well I was in bed so not floored. But MAN! I was asking for a sign, he used the book I had been reading the last fw days. And he told me a joke!
Nice story, erm joke :icon_jokercolor:
(personal thought: evolution doesn't rule out God)
Great story, Nat. Yes, he has a wonderful sense of humor. We are created in his image, after all.
If the internet had been around when the theory of evolution was launched, it would have taken a new york minute to uncover the Piltdown man hoax instead of 50 years-- during which it was accepted as 'science.'
Piltsdown Man: The Secret Life of Charles Dawson
Synopsis
The human and animal remains discovered almost 100 years ago at Piltdown, near Lewes in Sussex were at the time hailed as the "missing link" between ape and man. It was not until 1953 that modern analysis conclusively revealed an ingenious hoax. The perpetrator was almost certainly the antiquarian excavator Charles Dawson who, as Miles Russell shows, was responsible for 16 other archaeological forgeries during his lifetime.
teehee WW I would have put money on you being the first to bring me up on that, if I was a betting woman :icon_jokercolor:.
What I meant was, in my opinion, Evolution is in its most extreem form, is life developing without any consciousness or choice or direction setting it in motion that a random selection of events is taking place. God works with our understanding and I guess in my mind Evolution and God are like the two opposites, so thats why He chose to speak to me in that way. But I am all for God being the guiding hand to the process that we call evolution. Anyway thats a whole other thread :girlheart:
Thats interesting Molly I didn't know they thought they had found 'the missing link'. :girlheart:

They found 'many' missing links. But all were mistakes or, in most cases, fraud of someone looking for glory or someone trying to fight religion.
Natcat if you are a betting woman you could bet on it that
really looking into evolution more and more proves me the missing link is someone with lots of humor. :laughing7:
About your testimony. If it would have happend to me I would have thought: random luck like roulette.
:2c:
WW, when ever I hear other people's testimony I'm naturally cynical. BUT I think thats the way He opperates. If my testimony convinces someone of God's existence or that He communicates with us and we can have a relationship with Him then maybe people wouldn't press in to have a relationship of their own. They might just live vicareously through the testimoney of others. I think by not setteling for a secondhand relationship with Him it leads us to draw in closer until we have our OWN relationship with Him.
The last few weeks I have been so cynical and have not settled for the sort of small coincedences that before I would have called proof of God. For example the other day I asked for a sign and a dove flew past, now for some people that would be a sign, but I was like "nah!". But last night was different it was like those series of events were a conversation. Thats how He spoke to me, for you it might be different. But by seeing my testimony as coincidence, you wont settle, you can push on untill He speaks directly to you.
He wants you to come directly to Him not to live through the testimonies of others, so I think a little cynicism is very healthy. :girlheart:
I would love to have a little feedback from Him don't get me wrong. But yes I'm a bit cynical about it.
Makes me think about an article about premonition. It was about people knew a plane would crash or something similar. It seems many people have similar thoughts very often. Usally the thought is forgotten almost instantly. But when something happens the thought surfaces again and it's called premonition.
Sometimes I'm thinking of something during the day and when I check this forum a topic is started about it.
I have some PM chats with Jabcat about higly interesting things I can't reveal
I had a few times that I randomly opened my Bible and one of the first things I saw was an on-topic verse.
Is that coincidence? Me imagining the verse is on-topic? Or Fatherly feedback?
The problem, with me is, I believe things but not if they happen :-)
Short example. I don't rule out that aliens exist. There is even some weak proof of them. But if read about ufo sightings my first thoughts are: hoax, drunk or stoned....
Maybe I'm not open enough to things?
Its a balancing act. UR is such a small minority belief, there are soooo many different beliefs just within christianity, someone might say God told them they will be rich, they should keep the Sabbath, the world will end in 3 minutes, pray to Mary, Jesus wasn't God, you are Jesus, leave your wife, marry 3 wives, the epileptic man next door is posessed. All these different beliefs about what God has told you, they can't all be right, logic tells us that some of them are mistaken, through either wishful thinking, superstition, reading too much into things. They cant all have really heard from God.
Thats why I think at some point you have to block out what others are saying about their experiences with God. All the apostles had very personal experiences with God, either through the man Jesus or big voice scales on eyes kinda thing. I think God spoke to me by using a book I was reading, cuz thats how I listen. Its all about a personal relationship.
My husband, before he was a believer was going through a really tough patch. He was walking somewhere listening to The White Stripes and asking questions about his life in his head, to no one in particular. Suddenly the lyrics to the songs were answering all of his questions. He literally was thinking something and the song was replying, like a conversation. It was at that moment he believed in God and that He wanted to have a relationship with him. He listened to that album since and its not the same lyrics. He was out walking aswell not half asleep or anything. Shortly after that he met me, which, if I do say so myself, was an answer to prayer. So God spoke to my husband in a way he could understand. Same with me.
But is someone told be God spoke to them in their cereal, I probably wouldn't believe them. Such is the human condition! :icon_joker:
Haha God certainly does have a sense of humour and I love hearing stories about it! He is the funniest "person" ever in my opinion. Heck, just read back in the OT when He was making fun of Israel for believing in wooden idols. And I have heard that a lot of what Jesus said was actually poking fun at people but we have lost a lot of that understanding through the past 2000 years, unfortunately.
Glad to hear you're feeling better. :dsunny:
