Title: What Advice for Needy Family?
Post by: Lloyd on October 10, 2013, 03:37:53 AM
I met a woman on Craigslist whose family seems to be in danger of being homeless and she would also like free or cheap rides to get to work or to school. The details aren't clear yet.

Most people would probably advise her to seek govt help. I don't know if she's done that, but it seems to me that it's probably best for common people to try to help each other. So I tried to help by asking a friend if he knew of a place to stay in exchange for work, which is similar to my own situation. He thought of one prospect, which I then told her about, but that seems to have fallen through.

She said she would keep praying for guidance. Does anyone have other suggestions? I thought it might be good for her to contact local churches. I think she has already tried her local church, but didn't get help there. Does anyone know of churches or orgs that are likely to be helpful?

WW, it doesn't look like I can deal with Love Inc at http://www.loveinc.org/ (http://www.loveinc.org/) because they require that the people they deal with promise to believe the so-called Apostles' Creed. Here's how they word the creed:

The Apostles' Creed
A Modern Translation

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day He rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness
of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Amen.

I don't believe that's really the Apostles' creed at all and I don't believe the creed either.
