Got something to ponder for you....
Year ago I watched a western movie with all the big heroes/murderers living in the same little town.
You know, Billy the Kid, Butch Cassidy, Doc Holliday etc
They where put in that town by a higher force. Not mentioned but I guess God.
It was their last chance to get into heaven.
The town had some strict rules. The most important one was that fighting means the man in black stagecoach would come to town and pick you up for your final ride (to hell)
Some fought and were taken away.
Those who didn't never went to heaven.
Then a situation developed. Until now only criminals lived in the town but an innocent person arrived. A young woman I think.
That woman got into dangerous situation. The only way the men could save her was another big gunfight.
A gunfight that would buy their ticket to hell.
They decided to help the woman. After a job well done they waited for the black stagecoach.
It never arrived.
On the contrary. Their disobedient self-sacrifice was their ticket to heaven.
Do you think theFather sets such tests?
Interesting.. I think I know the movie you're talking about, which I've never taken the time to watch.. But wanted to know the basic outline of the story.. So thanks! Now I know.

Good question! I will enjoy pondering it.. off the top of my head, I'm thinking 'sort of'? ..like if you run into a burning building to save someone.. you are endangering your very life of course.. but of course there may be much more..?
:Chinscratch: I wonder if there would be such 'testing' in upcoming ages..? :dontknow:
The difference with the burning building is that God never forbid you to save someone from that building.
But in the movie He did forbid violence.
So we have 2 conflicting things:
a] Disobey the 'do not fight' command.
b] Obey the command to help your neighbor.
(any idea what the title of the movie is?)
Maybe the producer/writer was thinking of this Bible verse?
1Peter4:8
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
Also, we need to remember, that the same act might be a sin in one circumstance, and yet perhaps not in another.
To not kill is one of the 10 Commandments, yet John the Baptist tells us that if a soldier is in the army they should take their fare wages, and so on.
Luke 3:14
Then some soldiers asked him, "And what should we do?" He replied, "Don't extort money and don't accuse people falsely--be content with your pay."
Deitrich Von Bonehoefer was a famous Lutheran pastor, who plotted to kill Hitler, was put into a concentration camp and killed, days before the liberation. Was he evil? I think not.
The older I get, the more I realize that it is so vital to know God's Word, yet for those life situations, we must also learn to listen so very carefully to the Holy Spirit. Jesus sent Him to be our Counselor, to interpret the Holy Word of God, in our daily existence.
John 14:
15If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. 16And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever— 17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and He will be in you.d
18I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19In a little while, the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live. 20On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you. 21Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him."
Just some thoughts to ponder. :2c:

His law is written in hearts of flesh, not stone. heart motive has everything to do with it. Rebecca and the plot for the Blessing Genesis ch 27. v 13 Upon me be thy curse
my son. and even where an evil motive of the heart is concerned......such as Joseph being sold by his brother's into Egypt..it is said 'though you meant it for evil.....
God meant it for good".
the same things occur in life today...it's 3;00 am..a family member is sick..you begin to transport to the ER..and they become life and death ill in the vehicle.....
no traffic....do you exceed the speed limit...and go through the red lights? in effect taking the blow/stripes as a lawbreaker/curse on yourself..to preserve life?
of coarse they're are God's laws and man's laws.

The name of the movie is "Purgatory" ..... know it well .... seen it at least three times
same here WW...you may freely eat of ALL the tree's in the garden....but.....do not eat of the TOKOGAE..for in the day ye eat of it ye shall die
ALL THINGS ARE YOURS...both death and life.........Lord of the dead[in trespass] and the Living[free gift] free gift is irrevocable
His Judgements are the only one that holds authority.........as sin entered through one man.......so,too,the free gift of righteousness.......
...for God bound up all men in disobedience..in order to show mercy unto all.

I'm more partial to written tests and little quizzes :laughing7: (I'd post a nail biting emoti if there was one..)
...that's something tho.. they risked, or rather definite annihilation.. but they did it.. for someone else's sake.. I mean it may be one thing to sacrifice dying knowing you'll be restored.. :faint: ...I may have to still watch the movie, after all..
The full movie is on "EweToob," and it looks good. Watching it tomorrow.

IF God sets up tests, they are not for Him to sit back and see "Hmm I wonder what he or she will do with THIS test" (like a teacher testing a student) because He already knows what we will do and why we will do it (what is in our hearts)...so IF those tests exist they are (I believe) for US to learn something, such as to learn about God, learn something about our selves, etc.
I would tend to think that these "tests" just occur within the course of our daily lives anyway, living in an imperfect world where so many grey areas exist.
Depends on how you define test GIL.
God gave an certain set of commands to live by.
God sat back for decades, even centuries until He took action and exiled the Isrealites.

It may depend on how you define test, I don't know. I'm not an OT scholar like some on here but I wouldn't say that just because God waited to take action he was testing them in the sense of wondering what they'd do. Maybe he was allowing them to learn, or allowing them to sink to a low point, or maybe it was so eventually:
25For I do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, of this secret — that ye may not be wise in your own conceits — that hardness in part to Israel hath happened till the fulness of the nations may come in;
26and so all Israel shall be saved, according as it hath been written, 'There shall come forth out of Sion he who is delivering, and he shall turn away impiety from Jacob,
Isaaih 57;14-21 I hid me..and was wroth...and he went on forwardly in the way of his heart. I have seen his ways, and will heal him.
Almost every choice we make, is a decision to grow closer to God, or further away.
We might not choose what He would have had us choose, but He knows our hearts, and what our motivations are.
Of course, I don't think it matters for such things as whether you prefer chocolate or vanilla. :ghaha:

I haven't seen the movie but I think if (hypothetically, but it is arguable that God really did tell us not to fight) God told us not to fight then we shouldn't even if it were to defend someone(I assume God would either give permission or intervene himself if it were for the best). It is less loving to sacrifice your soul in defense of an innocent than to preserve your soul and let the innocent die(a physical death) because the person you defended would be absolutely horrified that someone damned themselves forever to save their temporal life. It would be as misguided and wrong as person sacrificing their life to spare their spouse from a papercut. Thankfully that is a false dilemma.
God often teaches and commands counterintuitive and crazy sounding stuff but in my experience it leads to better results than straying from what he tells us. For example(one example), "white lies" can seem more compassionate or beneficial in the short term but I have found honesty to be better(that is not to say that reckless bluntness is better but tactfully telling the truth or not saying anything at all). There is a lot of counterintuitive wisdom in the Bible. Evil or foolishness often seems better than the alternatives but in my experience, evil deprives people of the same things it offers(or it offers an inferior benefits to doing the right thing) among other consequences.
That is not to say I would ever condemn good intentions.
Actually God never sat back. He made appeals through the prophets. He allowed raids and smaller tribulations before, and building up, to the captivity. By the time they were taken into captivity they were engaged in may horrendous sins. I believe He does the same with all, whether they listen or not. (Let the one who has ears to hear hear what the Spirit is saying......)
Some points about evil.
There is direct evil with deliberate intent.....Such as murder, greed, adultery, theft.
There is evil committed through ignorance...... The consequences of ignorance cause many kinds of evil, for example, cultures that think God wants women in subjection to men and treat them cruelly and unfairly because of it.
There is evil that occurs as a side effect of good...... If God causes Germany to lose a war it launches in order to dominate the whole world, that is good. That individual innocent Germans suffer as a result of that war, is evil as a side effect of good.
