Title: Waitress Gets Damnationist Tract Instead Of Tip
Post by: aaronclark1989 on November 14, 2013, 06:48:54 AM
This waitress in DC has received a tract instead of a tip and not only was the tract disguised as a ten dollar but the message on the other side was the typical damnation nonsense that presents a view of Yeshua who thinks you are a filthy piece of crap who he cant stand the sight of  or have in his presence and that you dont deserve love or forgiveness and that you deserve to be eternally tortured. If this is how Damnationist get their kicks by using treats of hellfire as a way to avoid paying tips then Christianity has hit a new low when it is already pretty low to begin it. And also I would like to say to these two fundies who left this tract and said its message was more important then money I have this to say is your damnationist nonsense going to put food on her table or gas in her car or electricity so she can stay warm doing these cold winter months.  :punish:

Sad to say, I've managed a couple of restaurants and this is not an isolated incident. I first saw it about 35 years ago. There'll be a special place in heaven for chick publications (Most likely where the tract came from)
"Damning everyone else to hell since 1949"

Excellent point.  This goes to show you the type of Christianity that ET often (not always) leads to.  Where's the love? :2c:

That is sick, and this is not the first time I have heard about something like this happening. If you want to pass that stuff out fine, but at least leave a tip too. Extra terrible that they disguised it as a dollar bill too. What we should really do is give a tip along with UR scriptures.

Why?  IMO handing out tracks is tacky and it looks bad for the one handing them out. This is just my opinion but why should we sell UR like a salesman? It sells itself!! :reachout:

IMO, handing out tracts is a cop-out (particularly if that's all one ever does).  I like the term "making friends for Christ."  Tracts may have their good uses, but there is nothing that reaches people like friendship - and like you said, "UR sells itself."  The friendship must be genuine though!

Not really unfortunately. Companies with massive advertising budgets usually generate the most sales.
"If you repeat a lie long enough, it becomes truth."

Sure the lesser known products with small to (almost) zero advertising budgets get sold too, otherwise they would be out of business soon. It's just that they usually never grow very big.

Same for UR. I've seen quite a few posts on UR related sites where people mention they accidently found the UR view. It scares them a but to "buy" the virtually unknown UR brand because the widely sold competing ET product has a massive advertising budget proving it's far superior.

What percentage of people are UR?
How many would be without the "Gary's of advertising"?
How many would be ET without advertsing?

All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Arthur Schopenhauer, German philosopher (1788 – 1860)

With lots of advertising the 3 steps will take far less time.
So for me, personally, it's sure smart advertising will help UR.

:laughing7: It's true.

Its hard to tell because even if people believe UR, they may not say so. Some people take the candle and put it under the bed. They rather have the praise of men than of God.

Frustrating....  Robert Rutherford would talk about how ET folks would say they believed in what he was saying but "why rock the boat?" :ticked:

Better a candle under bed than nowhere. That's progress. But what if they had put their candle in their window?
Arthur Schopenhauer would say at first people just walk by. Then they break the window. And finally everyone has a candle in the window.

It's scary to leave the safety of the masses. And that starts at early age; if a kid doesnt have the cool phone brand he or she is an idiot. Marketing is  a very powerful tool.
Maybe slightly of topic but it shows how easily our free will is made not so free.
Experiment.
In a cinema popcorn is sold. A quite modest amount for $3 and size bathtub for $7.
Most people buy the small $3.
When interviewed why they bought the $3 most answered $7 is to expensive and/or their appetite isn't big enough.
Next time a $6.50 medium size was added. Many people intended to but medium sized. When they ordered "Medium" they were informed that for just 50 cents extra they got a "Large". Almost all bought large because it was a great deal to get so much extra for 50 cents. So at first most bought Small but by adding Medium most bought Large.
They made a free choice. Or not....

Yeah, I suppose it is good that they at least have a candle, but in another metaphor, I wouldn't want to be called a "wicked servant" by the Lord for hiding gold in the ground.

Romans 1:8
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.

Those who practice deceit will get strong delusion, for God will not be mocked. It's good for them to believe. But if they hold the keys to the prison and refuse even to attempt to unlock it to set the prisoners free, then they hold the truth in unrighteousness.

I might rather they have no even known the truth than to do that.

Luke 12:48
But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

2 Peter 2
21 It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. Of them the proverbs are true: "A dog returns to its vomit," and, "A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud."

Will be even worse for the teachers that lead the little ones astray.
Another thing is not everyone is suited to spread the Word. Speaking in public is  a gift many don't have. When you do you have to be able to answer every question or else UR seems to be debunked and that's possibly worse that not spreading it at all.
That candle under the bed might be very small and get extinguished by the opposition when they start promoting UR

That's true, and Pastor Rutherford was talking about ER teachers who saw that he was right, and gave the "rock the boat" line. Here was a guy who (whether I agree with his fine points or not) was out there making it public, and trying to shine a light in the dark, and others choosing the praise of men (and money) over the truth. These are people with the ability to reason the scriptures and be teachers, who choose to keep people in the dark to keep their places secure. No bueno...Just sayin' I wouldn't want to be in their shoes, Lord willing...

The large is the true deal. The medium deal is overpriced at $6.50 so it would not benefit the consumer to continue with medium, when they could get large for only an extra 50p.  The company made a choice to offer the better deal, even though they would make less profit and the consumer made the free choice to take advantage of the offer.

Likewise in the first example the consumer decided to opt for small, due to their small appetites. A large would also have been a substantial step up in price.

BTW, I totally agree, rushing off to share the word without a proper foundation is just asking for a hurricane to blow down their houses. People should only act on what they are fully convinced about. That's why the Lord rewards those (with truth) who diligently seek.

Yes.
QuoteThe company made a choice to offer the better deal, even though they would make less profit and the consumer made the free choice to take advantage of the offer.
And that's not true. Sure you are right the company would earn more if everyone bought the Medium deal because that has a higher profit margin.
But without the Medium one most would buy the Small one. The whole point is the decoy.

Another example of a decoy is the experiment with photographs.
A photo of a pretty blonde and a photo of an equally pretty brunette. The preference of the interviewed people was about 50/50.
Now they added a 3rd picture. The same brunette but her face was slighly altered.
Slanted mouth and bit weird eyes (I don't remember the exact details).
Again people were allowed to pick the most pretty woman. I would say it would be again 50/50 for the unaltered photo. But not so, no the vast majority picked the brunette. There are more examples, but it's already way off-topic. I'm just trying to say, we are quite easily manipulated and not only when buying stuff but likely also in relgious matters.

Has anyone considered how the waitress acted inside? I mean it is one thing to criticise anyone who would do such a thing but isn't it more important of how one reacts to such events?

How would any of us reacti f put in the same circumstance?

Would we act all indignate and high and mighty, or would we rather say a silent prayer for them, knowing full well that the light in which Father has granted us would surely blind them.  :sigh:

Nothing in our spiritual life is about any one else. Rather it is how we feel towards all and how we love the same. Being the barer of the Holy Light means it must shine always, on all.  :dsunny:

I think the couple would be ticked off too if they received a tract not exactly being their denominational view. An UR tract for example

Oh My Gosh! she likely saw what looked like a ten dollar bill and thought "hooray! ten dollars as a tip!" Only to be disappointed by the gospel!!?? Say what! that's awful!

Disappointed by the negative gospel which is no gospel/good news at all! Oiye!! humans! Not the brightest light bulbs in the pack!

I wouldn't even do that with the real gospel.. maybe pin it to a ten.. I mean that's the least they could have done!!! geesh..

..interesting.. as always about 'free will'... which we don't have or if so it sure is as im-perfect as all other things except God Himself, of course..

God endowed thinking ability.. which the ability to make choices (albeit very limited) is an offshoot of that..

[the thing is.. God is life (who/what else could be?) and also surely(?) he is perfection.. once anyone chooses any teeny tiny thing that differs with what God chooses.. they become im-perfect, the opposite of life.. a GReat paradox.. but what was our Father's other choice? no rational creatures.. ever...?

My son about 16 years ago asked me a twofold question, when he was 16 - "why was the tree of knowing good and evil in the garden? and isn't it great we get to be an ant farm?" I answered him but wasn't satisfied with the answers, so I prayed for better insight and understanding.. and bam! the answers came back and knocked my socks off.. still knoocked off..

and it all ended (the bam) with a question which came to my mind - "why did God wait so long" (and the word long was stretched out) "and only create the universe and man and woman not only after the first bound to occur rebel thought occurred, but after that thought had matured into outright sedition and trickery?"

thinking ability and able to make (some) choices, is a far cry from free will... surely free will could only come about where there is absolute freedom and knowledge of truth.. all(?) truth! Maybe it's still not free will.. let's see, should I leap off this tall building or not? :laughing7:

It gets even more weird if we consider Eve had no clue what she was doing because she had no knowledge of good and evil. That's what the tree gave her.

Julie great insight on this issue! :gimmefive: Its easy to focus on the cheap couple who think their version of the truth is really the Truth. But when we look further we see the workings of Yahweh on the waitresses heart. Why do we always seem to question the methods of our Sovereign Father?
