I know that many of those who come here, myself included, have been driven by fear of damnation, either concerning themselves, other people, or both. The doctrine of UR shall give comfort - something many of us need.

Perhaps it is wrong to want to try to alleviate worries and fears by embracing a doctrine, whatever doctrine it is. St. John writes that getting rid of fears must be done by becoming perfect in love. This is really what it's all about, in christian life.

Perhaps it is the best answer, if you have fears, to start to believe in love again, and acting about that. We all believe that God is love. Every christian I know believes this. But, do we really believe that as much as we should? Don't we all sometimes backfile the knowledge of God's love?

There is needy love and generous love. Those who call out in pain, to God, because they seek help and relief, they are acting in love. But, we must also act in love when anything seems well in us. We must think lovingly of God.

I think many many people have lost their trust in the power of love. I've been there too. i once loved a woman a lot, but it turned out she didn't want me. This broke my trust in love which up to then had been very strong in me. But I want to get back there.

Those who love are of God. That's also something from John. And there is also an admonishment to love found in the Revelation where Jesus COMMANDS one of His churches to turn back to their first love.

I am of the oppinion that love is a strength, something we really urgently need if we want to serve God in this world. When love is absent, there is nothing that doctrine can do to help us. It'll all be jaded wine. Real love has a powerful glory instead, making you able to endure both easy times and hardship.

Jesus lived in strong love throughout all of His earthly ministry. As a God, He demands perfection, so He desires us to have perfect love. He wants the best, for Himself and His purposes, but also for our sake.
