Title: The threshing floor
Post by: WhiteWings on July 03, 2012, 10:05:43 AM
(2Sam 24:17) And David spoke to LORD when he saw the agent who smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done perversely, but these sheep, what have they done? Let thy hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house
(2Sam 24:18) And Gad came that day to David, and said to him, Go up, rear an altar to LORD in the threshing-floor  of Araunah the Jebusite.
(2Sam 24:19) And David went up according to the saying of Gad, as LORD commanded.
(2Sam 24:20) And Araunah looked forth, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him. And Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.
(2Sam 24:21) And Araunah said, Why has my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshing-floor  from thee, to build an altar to LORD that the plague may be halted from the people.
(2Sam 24:22) And Araunah said to David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seems good to him. Behold, the oxen for the burnt-offering, and the threshing instruments and the yokes of the oxen for the wood.
(2Sam 24:23) All this, O king, Araunah gives to the king. And Araunah said to the king, LORD thy God accept thee.
(2Sam 24:24) And the king said to Araunah, No, but I will truly buy it from thee at a price. Neither will I offer burnt-offerings to LORD my God which cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing-floor  and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver
(2Sam 24:25) And David built there an altar to LORD, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings. So LORD was entreated for the land, and the plague was halted from Israel.

(2Chr 3:1) Then Solomon began to build the house of LORD at Jerusalem on mount Moriah, where [LORD] appeared to David his father, which he made ready in the place that David had appointed, in the threshing-floor  of Ornan the Jebusite.

(Gen 22:2) And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son, whom thou love, even Isaac, and get thee into the land of Moriah. And offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

The more I read this the more I realize how much can be gleaned from just these few short passages... wow.

I bet some scholar can fill a whole book about a Temple build on a treshing floor.

I can't really support this claim but both Mt Olives and Mt. Moriah (chosen by God) were part of the Garden of Eden.
I wonder which function it had back then.

You can't support it but you state it as a fact anyway. ;P

Interesting thought though.

(Ruth 3:2) Now behold, there is our near relative Boaz with whose maidens you have been. Behold, he will be winnowing barley on the threshing site tonight.

(Isa 30:24) And the domestic animals, and the donkeys serving the ground, fermented chopped straw shall eat, which is winnowed with the wind  and with the winnower."

The wind in the Temple is the Holy Spirit.
Needless to say thresing and winnowing have very strong connections with judgement.

(Job 31:10) then let my wife grind to another, and let others bow down upon her.
Grinding grain is related to marriage?
(Hos 9:1) Rejoice not, O Israel, neither make merry, as other nations. For you have gone a-whoring from your God; you have loved gifts upon every threshing floor.

I have 'proof'. Not airtight and only in my head after 'cross referencing' various bits of information. Mainly all in my head. Nothing written down.

---Speculation---

I've read the book of Adam and Eve; and they both tended a part (east, west) of the Garden.
Can't remember which part but my guess is Eve was on Mt. Olives were I think the Tree stood.
Adam likely on mt. Moriah. If so I'm wondering what spot of significance was on Adam's mount.

And... what does it pattern?

What's the book of Adam and Eve?

Even less trusted than the apocryptical books.
The so called lost books. Others are book of Lilith. Book Of Jesus pre ministry years. Book of Mary. etc etc

David bought the floor while Onan was threshing grain. That would be about August/September. Before Jewish New Year (Feast of Trumpets)

The treshing floor was bought for 50 shekels. 50=Pentecost.
Solomon dedicated the Temple on Tabernacles.

The 50 shekels was just for the threshing floor. Later David bought whole mt Moriah for 600 shekels
1 Chron. 21:25 So David paid Araunah six hundred shekels of gold for the site.
I have no idea what 600 is refering to. Neither do I know the significance of the downpayment.

6 represents imperfection, right? Maybe it represents how Pentecost still didn't make us perfect... but Solomon dedicating the temple on Tabernacles... now there's a type!

Temple mount doesn't represent imprefection I guess. Perhaps incompletion?
I'm not sure David payed an extra 600 or a total of 600 shekels of gold.

Gold. Not silver. Another thing to consider.

Silver represents redemption.

You're talking about Eden= Temple, and the east and west of Eden.  It is the east gate of Eden that is sealed by cherubim with flaming swords after Adam walks out.  In Ezekiel, the east entrance belongs to the LORD God of Israel, and is sealed until the Prince himself arrives to walk through the gate.

24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.  Gen 3

44 Then he brought me back the way of the gate of the outward sanctuary which looketh toward the east; and it was shut.

2 Then said the Lord unto me; This gate shall be shut, it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter in by it; because the Lord, the God of Israel, hath entered in by it, therefore it shall be shut.

3 It is for the prince; the prince, he shall sit in it to eat bread before the Lord; he shall enter by the way of the porch of that gate, and shall go out by the way of the same.
--Eze 44

But that doesn't explain what mt moriah was used for in Adam's time.

I thought you said Mt Moriah was on the east, in which case, the tree of life was there.

I don't really believe your theory that the Temple was literally built over the actual location of Eden. I believe Eden was located in Mesopotamia.  If that is your theory...but I can see how one is a template of the other.

Mt Moriah is in the west because God looks eastward to the sacrifices. Usually that the altar in the Temple complex and the altar outside the camp. For the red heifer IIRC. Jesus was crucified very near to that altar. Maybe Jesus had red hair :-)

Not over the location of Eden. Inside the location. I think the Garden was much bigger than the Temple complex.

For my view on the location see this (http://tentmaker.org/forum/lounge/return-to-eden/msg126823/#msg126823) dead thread....
