Title: Romans 5:12
Post by: micah7:9 on June 15, 2011, 06:00:53 AM
Hopefully this is clearer.

Rom 5:12  because of this, even as through one man the sin did enter into the world, and through the sin the death; and thus to all men the death did pass through, for that all did sin;

I have always been told that this "one man" was/is adam. Here is where, for me anyway, I get to reasoning, the Bible does not say in Gen.3 that man/woman/adam sinned.

Now in Gen. 4:7 is the first time "sin" is used and it is in reference to Cain.

Rom 5:14  Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

I am given to see that Adam is man(kind) Cain/adam/man(kind) commited sin.

Just as in Adam all die.  How does that statement affect your hypothesis?  I don't know if I'm fully understanding what you meant, so sorry if you're talking apples and I'm talking oranges.

Well just who is adam in your question? Isnt adam/man/mankind of Gen.2:7 the first man or 1Co 15:45  so also it hath been written, `The first man Adam became a living creature,' the last Adam is for a life-giving spirit, ?

I agree with your last statement.  In your OP were you implying that cain was the first to sin?  And that Adam in this case means cain (mankind)?  :dontknow:

As above. If Adam did not sin then who is the one man, that death passed through mankind?

Can you find anywhere or anyone else who commited a sin in Gen.3 or 4?  I believe adam/man is mankind, yes

I cannot accept that the proper name adam is a seperate man. H120 H119 H121 =man, adam.

You think Adam = mankind. Interesting, sort of same idea as me, but I go back a bit further in Genesis 1 where we mankind lived before we were birthed into the world as souls, and I see Adam and Eve as one soul or two separate souls rather.

But what do you make of this scripture

Eve was in the transgression.

Isn't that a sin?

So was Cain a proper name?  I'm open to this line of thought, but where do Cain and Able come from or is all that allegory too?  Is the whole book of Genesis an allegory (only)?  The whole Bible?

I'm not asking for the sake of argument btw, these are questions I have the more I think about the allegory.

ACVGenesis 4
1 And the man knew Eve his wife, and she conceived, and bore Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from LORD.

Adam is mankind is a bit weird in this verse...

Whole mankind slept with Eve, and she gave birth to Cain.

And I am not questioning the transgression/sin/disobedience,...SIN is not mentioned until Gen.4:7

Cain is a proper name Adam is a proper name, as well as Abel, I believe their meanings tell a good part of what I/we need to know.
Gen 4:1  And the man knew Eve his wife, and she conceiveth and beareth Cain, and saith, `I have gotten a man by Jehovah;'
Now the word "knew" is for me very interesting. Its been said to mean "intercourse" yet its meaning has  nothing to do with sex. There are about a dozen verses in the Bible were that word "knew" "yada" has to do with sexual intercourse, but the whole of the word H3045
ידע
yâda‛
yaw-dah'
A primitive root; to know (properly to ascertain by seeing); used in a great variety of senses, figuratively, literally, euphemistically and inferentially (including observation, care, recognition; and causatively instruction, designation, punishment, etc.): - acknowledge, acquaintance (-ted with), advise, answer, appoint, assuredly, be aware, [un-] awares, can [-not], certainly, for a certainty, comprehend, consider, X could they, cunning, declare, be diligent, (can, cause to) discern, discover, endued with, familiar friend, famous, feel, can have, be [ig-] norant, instruct, kinsfolk, kinsman, (cause to, let, make) know, (come to give, have, take) knowledge, have [knowledge], (be, make, make to be, make self) known, + be learned, + lie by man, mark, perceive, privy to, X prognosticator, regard, have respect, skilful, shew, can (man of) skill, be sure, of a surety, teach, (can) tell, understand, have [understanding], X will be, wist, wit, wot.
And by the way that very same word is used in Gen.3:7 and there is not sex involved.

conceived, H2029  A primitive root; to be (or become) pregnant, conceive (literally of figuratively): - been, be with child, conceive, progenitor. See James 1:15 "conceived"G4815 sullambanō  From G4862 and G2983; to clasp, that is, seize (arrest, capture); specifically to conceive (literally or figuratively); by implication to aid: - catch, conceive, help, take.

For me the words "knewand conceived  I believe hold much and then to see that the word "knowledge" Gen. 2:17 is the same as knew.

To make it short, it was the KNOWLEDGE of good and evil that CONCEIVED Cain H7013 From H6969 in the original sense of fixity; a lance (as striking fast): - spear. And Abel H1892 From H1891; emptiness or vanity; figuratively something transitory and unsatisfactory; often used as an adverb: -  X altogether, vain, vanity.
For what we see is Good and Evil, the same situation we are in now, the fight between good and evil. That fact I believe that Abel was empty of all evil(bad) made him satisfactory for the purpose, now. Cain is the lance and striking fast, Cain was needed, Abel, well for me he is the path that takes us to completion.

Hey my friend you are very good at study(layin on the butter) anyway check out the words, "knowledge" "knew" and "conceived" and tell me if you find anything to do with sex, as in intercourse. I believe that the word "conceived" can be a thought of imagination, something that will produce if worked with.

"....even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression..."

It appears to me that Paul is clearly saying that Adam sinned. Death reigned over all, even those who had not "sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression", which in another place Paul describes as "rebellion against a direct command"-(command from God) Cain's sin was murder- not after the similtude of Adams sin, but also sin, and death reigned over Cain because he was "in Adam". Death has reigned over all until Christ brought the Lordship of life. Now Life is "swallowing up" death.
"death where is thy sting" for the sting of sin is death, and the power of death is the grave- but Jesus has taken the keys to the grave and death. Death, "Where is thy victory?"

Every time a man knew a woman the next verse speaks about birth. That one simple fact is a strong hint for me.
If "knew" simply means they were friends or neighbours then why even mention  it? It's clear from other verses they lived together for a long time before.

Let's take a look at: Gen 4:1 And the man knew Eve his wife, and she conceiveth and beareth Cain, and saith, `I have gotten a man by Jehovah;'

Followed you along to here "conceiveth simply means get pregnant" please show me where conceiveth   "simply means get pregnant" in its definition.
I would say the same for "knew" YADA in a meaning of sexual intercourse, unless one goes by how religion has taught. Say like in
Gen 3:7  And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked;

And the fourth word has its purpose, love it.

" death reigned over Cain because he was "in Adam"

I believe now it is being uncovered! Thanks and Praise the Lord

For as "in Adam" all men die, so also "in Christ" shall all men be made alive.(1 Cor 15:22) -but each in his own order!

We are the firstfruits

Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who works all things after the counsel of his own will: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
(Eph 1:9-12)

The gathering together of all things into one(anakephalaiomai Eph 1:10) "in Christ" is the taking of everything that is held by death(limit/separation/hostility/chaos) and liberating everything into "life eternal"(infinite-ness/union/communion/peace).

We are the kingdom of priests and of God "in Christ"- the vanguard of the restoration of all things.

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed in us. For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.
(Rom 8:18-23)

We are the firstfruits

Jas 1:18  Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

In the ages to come(Eph 2:7) we will participate in the "reconcilation of all things through the blood of His cross" (Col 1:16-20)This is part of why we "eagerly await" the redemption of our bodies- a declaration that we are sons, even as Christ was "declared to be the son of God by the resurrection of the dead"(Ro 1:4)

God was in Christ "reconciling the world unto Himself'"and we have been entrusted with the "ministry of reconciliation", carrying the "word of reconciliation"-(2 Cor 5:17-21)

"How beautiful on the mountainsides are the feet of them that bring good news"- the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. YAYYY!

And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sits upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
(Rev 5:13)

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
(Php 2:9-11)

Glory! It is "in Christ" that all things are being made new!

:cloud9: Obviously, like everything else in there, it's both literal AND spiritual.
Our "Eve" (our soul, stony heart) gets "pregnant" and conceives every day, birthing twins, until we become single eyed on Him (a double minded man is unstable in all of his ways).

One of the twins is a murderer (Choose ye this day whom ye will serve), because the wheat and the tares are raised up together. And so Jesus (the wheat) said to the ruling "tares" of His age, the Pharisees, ye are of your father the devil and the deeds of your father you will do.

Unfortunately, our fallen nature tends to lean towards having a murderer (a "Barrabas) released unto them, which means more tares sown.

However, God in His mercy and foreknowledge, established that we will have a "crop failure" every SEVEN YEARS (let the land lie fallow = cease from our own works, Christ IS the 7th day of no part darkness). My  :2c: Blessings....
