Title: Revelation is the unveiling of who?
Post by: WhiteWings on October 30, 2013, 05:32:00 PM
Revelation.
Revelation of John.
Revelation of Jesus Christ.
The unveiling.
The unveiling of Jesus Christ,
The apocalypse of Jesus Christ.

All titles given too the last Bible Book.

Rev 1:1 The Unveiling of Jesus Christ, which God gives to Him, to show to His slaves what must occur swiftly; and He signifies it, dispatching through His messenger to His slave John,

Unveil and reveal are quite similar so that would be the best title for the book.
Many are of opinion Jesus is revealed. As in: It's shown He's the great conquering power in the Bible or something similar. Sure He is; but I think that's not what it means.

"The Unveiling of Jesus Christ"
"The Unveiling of the bride by Jesus Christ"

Jacob loved Rachel and intended to marry her but he was tricked into marrying her sister Leah. Sex meant marriage. He didn't recognize Leah because she was veiled. (girls were veiled during the whole betrothal period). After that event a new ceremony was added to the Jewish wedding customs. Just before consummating the marriage the groom lifted the veil of the bride to check she really is who he thinks she is. The unveiling of the bride.

So my thought is that Revelation is the unveiling of the mystery bride. The elect. The elect is presently hidden but in Revelation Jesus will personally lift the veil.

As I recall the events of the Revelation, at one point some angel invites John to come and see the Bride, and seems quite excited at the prospect of her appearance.  I have thought and thought who this entity might be, but a member here at Tentmaker put out the best clue yet.  If there are parallels between the first and second Adams, then we must look for the Bride of Christ to be made from a part of His Body (the church), just as Adam's bride was made from a part of his body (a rib).  So much for those who say the Bride is the church/Church - no, only a part of same.

When we see the narrative of the Holy Bible as a love story (God + His People), then the unveiling of the Bride is surely the central event of the Revelation.  :HeartThrob:

re:  Thoughts?      too many to enumerate!!!! Thanks WW for putting into readable (understandable) words what has been on my mind and in my heart these past several weeks.

My thoughts?  Of special note for me is Rev. 22:17  And the Spirit and the bride say, Come.  And let him that heareth say, come.  And let him that is athirst come.  And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.  also Rev 21:2, 9... v 2 prepared as a bride adorned for her husband...   v 9 Come hither, I will show you the bride, the Lamb's wife.

another Scripture that has been in my thoughts, prayers, meditations is
Eph 6:25-32  I don't have time to type it ...  but v 25-26  husbands love your wives even as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it; v 26 That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word.... v. 32 This is a great mystery:  but I speak concerning Christ and the church

again, many thanks WW...

Obviously I agree with that; but it seems to narrow down/define church/ecclestia in a new way....

Eph 5:25-32 (AKJV)
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loves his wife loves himself.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord the church:
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

I never considered those verses. Aka totally overlooked them. Briefly I feared it would invalidate my theory as quoted by Laz. But it even seems to strenghten that theory...
Replace church with eclestia or called out.
I assume it's clear for everyone there is a lot of bride and groom references in the quoted verses.
Verse 30 is a key and the word members is the biggest key. We (bride) are members (a part) of the body.

It looks like the bride is the whole eclestia/church. The body is not the church/eclestia.

1Thess 4: For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

"In Christ" means bride or bridesmaids and groomsmen. Not every Christian.

In his own order. That's exactly what I'm describing Sheila.

The night BEFORE the actually wedding party with the parents and a zillion guests there was a party that could be compared with a modern bachelor and bachelorette party combined. Only the bride, groom, bridesmaids and groomsmen were at that party.

I offered the verses from Eph because of the husband and wife references; however, my greatest interest is focused on v. 25 ...gave Himself for it.  v 26 That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. v 27 That He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, nor wrinkle, or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish.

I often wonder what it is that the called-out ones (bride)  should be doing during this age...
and after reading, meditating, etc., these 3 verses I "concluded" that for my "doing"  I would spend much time in reading, meditating, etc., the Scriptures and ask the Holy Spirit to use the Word that I am reading to "sanctify and cleanse" me for the wedding  Rev 19:7  Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to Him:  for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and His wife hath made herself ready.

What if Revelations isn't about end time events at all?  What if it's symbolism the revelation of Jesus defeating  sin and death in our lives?

That's an easy one....

When a couple-1 became betrothed they had meal-2 with family-3.
The meal was at the girls' home-4.
The boy-5 went home and didn't see his bride for a long time. But that didn't mean he abandoned her. The groom had several groomsmen that helped him with all sorts of things. Just as the bride had bridesmaids. A (upcoming) wedding got a whole family involved. To a certain level both home towns-6.
The bride had absolutely zero direct contact with the groom during that period.
But they did had a mediator-7. He was the most trusted of the groomsmen.
That man had a lot of contact with the bride. If she needed something she asked that man-7. That man forwarded the request to the groom-8.
So that man-7 was a messenger that also gave gifts on behalf of the groom.

1] Jesus + bride
2] Last Supper
3] All above age of accountability
4] Earth.
5] Heaven
6] Heaven and earth
7] Holy Spirit
8] Jesus

To answer your question: What should we do.
The bride had 3 main things she did during the betrothal period:
a] Stay virgin --> No false teaching I assume.
b] Prepare. --> No candle in your window is no marriage.
c] Ask the HS-7 whatever you need.

Yeah, I'm fully aware of the implications* but that's how I understand it.
*= Praying is directly asking the HS. HS forwards to Jesus. And because it's a family affair Jesus can get about everyone involved to meet the request of the bride.

It isn't only about end time stuff. For example the first letter to the churches is also about Adam. The last letter is to/about Jesus. So the Book spans whole human history.
Besides of that end time stuff isn't mentioned in this thread. At least not the classic end-time stuff. Revelation is an end-time book. It's ends betrothal and starts marriage. It's a marriage book.

Of course the bride wasn't totally unknown. Her whole family and likely most of the village she lived in knew her. The groom has seen her too. But during betrothal she was veiled and people didn't know who she was. Obviously many people recognized her.
Quotego forth to meet the bridegroom
That's at the very end of the betrothal when the groom comes to pick up his bride. The groom traveled from his house/town to her house. She was warned by lots of noise, trumpets, flutes, cymbals etc. So left her house and goes forth to the groom.

Here is what I see when I look at Revelation 1:1

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John

So I see "of Jesus Christ" in the sense of the possessive, an unveiling of something that God gave to Jesus and Jesus is giving to John. So I correlate that with this:

Matthew 9:35
And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

I think Revelation is an "unveiling" of the Gospel of the Kingdom the purpose for Christ God gave him to spread from town to town. In that way, I think Revelation is saying the same thing Christ's parables are saying about the kingdom, which is why there are so many visual correlations between his parables and those in the book of Revelation.

Thanks WW and Sheila...

Looking at the Book of Revelation as being an unveiling of the bride (called-out-ones) and adding Psalm 45 to the "unveiling" process ---  and very personally for me - the necessary preparation on the part of the bride encourage me to continue to spend time, meditation on the Psalms...  asking all the while that the Holy Spirit guide me into all truth.
