Title: Resurrection(s)
Post by: Doc on March 17, 2009, 01:54:19 AM
I'm curious to get the community's thoughts on the differences in "resurrections". Particularly from those of you who understand "hell" or the Lake of Fire to be in this life, and resurrection to be spiritual in nature. Here are the scripture references that are currently perplexing me:

John 5:29
Acts 24:15
Philippians 3:10-14
2Tim 2:12 (2:11-19)
Hebrews 11:35
Revelation 20:5,6

For example; Just what is a "better resurrection", and the difference between a resurrection of judgment and resurrection of life?

I believe the events surrounding AD70 or even Noah reveal spiritually what the resurrection to life is, and what the resurrection to judgment is.  One is to be found clothed in Christ's righteousness, rewarded with relationship, knowing our true identity, and one is to be found shamed and naked at his appearing.  One a perpetural shame, one to "know Him".  Both for a purpose, which I believe is revealed in Romans 9-11, and especially the last part of Romans 11, MERCY upon ALL.

Doesn't baptizing by immersion represent resurrection?
You lay down (die) in a water-grave and come (resurrect) out of it.

IMO that resurrection is spiritual because noone really dies in the water ofcourse.

The doubts I have about it that the resurrection is done by man. Everyone can get baptized that way. Even for fun when drunk.
OTOH Jesus got baptized too. So I think it's safe to say it's not just a meaningles manmade activity...

To me, it represents the priesthood of the Levites (in the form of John the Baptist) handing the baton over to the Melchizedek priesthood.  Jesus comes out of the water and is immediately baptised with the Holy Spirit and declared a Son by God.

As far as I know, the Jews did not baptize with total immersion in water until this time.  It's the end of one age, and the beginning of another--the realization of everything that the meeting between Abraham and Melchizedek, so many centuries earlier,  implied.

As the priesthood of the Levites is passed from father to son, so is the Melchizedek priesthood.

I'm happy to call that resurrection.

16And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

:cloud9: The soul coming back into union with the spirit, is the first resurrection, typified by the first veil in the tabernacle the priests had to come thru to minister. The veil of our flesh is rent as we pass from our works (outer court) to His (inner court). The veil of His flesh is rent as we pass from inner court to Holy of Holies (the better resurrection).

It is possible to have this resurrection while still in the body. Jesus went to the cross, died to self, and was resurrected way before He ever went to the literal cross. This is why Paul said I would not be uncovered (body dying) but covered upon, that incorruption might swallow or cover corruption (body of death). Blessings....

The "woman" brought forth the "manchild" in Rev. 12
and "he" was caught UP to heaven, and "she" was carried to
the wilderness where "she" was nourished ........

were they ever reunited?
