Title: Religious teachings
Post by: micah7:9 on September 28, 2012, 10:06:33 PM
What does the Bible teach about  "immortal souls," "going to heaven when you die," "not all men being saved," or consciousness in death?"
Is there a witness of two or three
verses be given to support the teaching?

Our souls are not immortal at this point. The bible says, "To God who ALONE is immortal, be glory and honor..."
But when Christ comes into his Kingdom, "This mortal shall put on immortality."
The snake was the first to convince humanity that they were immortal. "You shall not surely die"
Then Father discusses with the Son that they needed to get Adam out of the Garden before he ate of the tree of life and would thus, "live forever" in a sinful state.
As many ET pastors say incorrectly (and indirectly saying we are all immortal), "It's not a question of whether you will live forever. Everyone will live forever, it's just a question of will you spend it in heaven with God or in hell (being tortured) for all eternity."

As for "going to heaven when you die" "not all men being saved" and "conciousness in death" there are verses which support both sides that scholars cannot agree on so this would be just one of those things that are ambigous. I think the scripture is fairly clear about the "immortal soul thing tho'.  :2c:

I'm sure we all know about the line upon line, precept upon precept concept from Isaiah 28.  One idea rests upon another as its foundation.  Without the immortal soul concept, the hell concept would not be tenable.  Thus, even though the Bible states that the soul that sins will die, and we all sin, so we (as souls) all die, the churches maintain that the soul is immortal.
