Thank you for sharing your real name with us. I just tried to see if I could go back and change my screen name into my real name. I don't think it can be done. Oh well if I keep remembering to sign each post with my real name it won't matter anyway.

While we're on the subject of real names, what do all of you think of God's name being rendered "Lord" in a whole lot of Bible versions, while all those pagan gods He told us to avoid naming are named by their proper names?  Is YHWH God being given short shrift?  I think so, and I see a basic dishonesty in such practices of translators.

Laz I was talking with Bec about that a few weeks ago! I said I can't believe YHWH's name goes all the way back to Gen 2 and all we know Him as is Lord which is so impersonal!! I was in tears. He is a very intimate and personal God. To know Him is life!! He gave us His very name and the translators took it away from us! I do believe there is a good side effect to that however: you don't hear anyone using His true name in vain or as a curse word. So in that sense I'm glad it's been hidden from the majority of us.  :HeartThrob:

LORD is just a title, God also wants us to call Him by His Name which is YHWH.  :Peace2:

I can cut and paste an essay I wrote on the subject if you like, but in short, YHWH means, in the original Hebrew and plugging in the very ancient pictographic meanings of the letters, "Behold the Hand, Behold the Nail."

Laz that sounds like an interesting read. I would be interested in your essay if you ever get a chance to post it here. (not necessarily in this thread)

DuWayne, I found that the document was not in my "Documents" file, so I had to go to my Facebook (I share this kind of thing on FB, but the response is like crickets in the night...) page to retrieve it, and then got it into the file.  Nice save!  Ennyway, here it is:

THE PICTOGRAPHIC NAME OF GOD

We're going to have to beat around the burning bush, but the roundabout is worth it!

I have been connecting dots for most of my adult life - connections, correspondences, correlations. The dots I want to connect here and now have to do with the Hebrew alphabet. We all know that written Hebrew is phonetic, with each letter being assigned a sound, not a...t all different from the modern alphabet. Ancient Hebrew, like Greek and Latin, lacked a separate set of symbols for numbers, thus each letter was assigned a numerical value. A Russian named Ivan Panin discovered that plugging in these numerical values in place of the letters, produced highly complex numerical patters running right through the text from Genesis to the Revelation. That's why I mentioned Greek, for numerically it works much like the Hebrew. As amazing as that is, I knew that years ago, so let's move on to the Strong Meat.

So, we know so far that the Hebrew letters operate on phonetic and numerical levels, but there is a third level, that of very ancient pictographs. Here is a chart of the Hebrew letters:

NAME OF LETTERS INTERPRETATION OF SYMBOL, WORD, OR LETTER Rendered in English
ALEPH An Ox or Bullock, a sacrifice or at-one-ment. Its numerical value is ONE.
BETH A House or Tent, a dwelling or tabernacle, in, among, within, etc.
GIMEL A Camel, like a camel's hump, heap, collect, high.
DALETH A Door or Gate, lid, valve.
HE Lo, see, behold, (therefore) a lattice or window for that purpose
VAV A Peg, Nail or Hook, therefore, wherefore, then, that, in order that, so that, etc.
ZAYIN A Weapon, a shining sword, brightness, light.
CHETH An Enclosure, fenced in, ark, refuge.
TETH A Serpent, like a serpent, rolled, twisted, entwined.
YOD The Hand, the right hand, to strike or pierce, a stroke, a blow.
KAPH The Hollow or Palm of the Hand, curved, concave, a valley or basin.
LAMEDH A Goad, towards, into, unto, until, upon, even to, besides, etc.
MEM Water, waves, a flood.
NUN A Fish, to sprout, to put forth, Noah, (as one from whom all are propagated).
SAMEKH A Fulcrum, prop, lever, to help, to sustain, to uphold, the hinge of a mason's apron, a ladder or line connecting the lower with the higher, the Holy Ghost.
AYIN The Eye, to flow, to flow out, a fountain.
PE The Mouth, to breathe, to blow, a side or quarter of the heavens, region, part, quarter.
TSADHE A Scythe or Reaping-hook, just, pertains to the harvest or retribution. Tsadok is Jupiter or justice (in Sanscrit, karma).
QOPH Occiput, back of the head, to move in a circle.
RESH Head, first, foremost, beginning, front.
Rosh means a foremost or most northern nation.
SHIN Tooth, a sharp rock, cliff, crag.
The Almighty (Shaddi) if seen from the front, but Satan if seen from behind.
TAU A Sign or Mark, cross, a symbol, a token.

Sorry, I have yet to successfully download a Hebrew font, so I don't have the pictorial letters, just the names of them. What I have learned concerns the tetragrammaton, or four-letter name of God, a proper name. It is Yod, He, Vav, He - usually transliterated "Yahweh," or rendered as "LORD" in many Bibles. Interestingly, most translators do not render the proper name of God as they should, but go ahead and transliterate the names of every pagan deity around, which the same God said not to do - but that's a rant for another day.

Hebrew is read from right to left, so if we plug in the pictographic meanings of the letters, it would read something like this:

He - lo, see, behold

Vav - a peg, nail, or hook

He - lo, see, behold

Yod - the hand

So, let's put it all together: God's proper name means (pictorially) "Behold the Nail, Behold the Hand." Reading from left to right, we get "Behold the Hand, Behold the Nail." Folks, this could be none other than Jesus!! Jesus is the God of the Old Testament.

Oh Laz, how did you know that I've been frantically searching through my zillions (literally thousands...I printed at least 25 reams...need hard copy)papers and my filing/retrieving system is greatly flawed :(

-- for my list of Hebrew alphabet/symbols-->pictures.  Thanks for retrieving and sharing your list which is much more detailed than the one that I printed and filed...  I will not misplace this one.  Thanks so much.

The name Yhwh is considered as the Name proper; it was known in the earliest rabbinical works simply as the Name; also as Shem ha-Meyuḥad ("the Extraordinary Name"; Sifre, Num. 143); as Shem ha-Meforash ("the Distinguished Name"; Yoma vi. 2); as Shem ben Arba' Otiyyot ("the Tetragrammaton" or "the Quadriliteral Name"; Ḳid. 71a); and as Yod He Waw He (spelling the letters of Yhwh). The pronunciation of the written Name was used only by the priests in the Temple when blessing the people (Num. vi. 22-27); outside the Temple they used the title "Adonai" (Soṭah vii. 6; p. 38a). The high priest mentioned the Name on Yom Kippur ten times (Tosef., Yoma, ii.; 39b). R. Johanan said the sages delivered to their disciples the key to the Name once in every Sabbatical year. The sages quoted, "This is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations" (Ex. iii. 15). Here the word "le-'olam" (forever) is written defectively, being without the "waw" for the vowel "o," which renders the reading "le-'allem

YHWH.Elohim.El.Shaddai and 'Elyon.Adonai and Ba'al.Ẓeba'ot. I don't know if this list of names is complete, its interesting the KJV rarely refers to our Lord and Savior as anything but God which is a generic title for any being of worship.

Peace
DuWayne
