Interested to see what y'all think of this "One Law", how you may see it conflicting with Scripture since Jesus fulfilled the law. Seems legit to me but that's because i look at the Bible much differently since I discovered UR, I have peace now where there used to be much confusion. :gimmefive:
Paul said, all things are legal but not all are beneficial and that is why many of you sleep. (One Cor. 10 & 11) A passage which may conflict, maybe. :dontknow:
A lot of Christians have addictions which they consider sinful, which, I guess, satisfies the peace of mind part while disturbing the spiritual comfort part. (What if sin is just mental/spiritual conflict?)
On the other hand, IMO, the spiritual discomfort (guilt) comes more from the legalistic side of religion. By beating yourself up over a perceived "sin" through some habitual behavior we give that demon power and life. Not accepting the law takes away the guilt which takes away the demonic power over our lives and, probably, makes the behavior easier to leave behind. :Peace2:
Can this "One Law" stand in for the OT now that Jesus has fulfilled the law? OR is this just applicable to non-Christians? OR is this just an incomprehensible ramble... :icon_jokercolor:
Maybe not the answer to all your questions GW, but this is what strikes me; maybe Mark Twain was speaking about primarily matters and pursuits of the flesh, from an unregenerated perspective - rather than walking in the Spirit. I.e., denying ourselves, taking up our cross and following Him. :2c:

Some things to me, are simply legalistic.. Don't eat meat.. Drink beer.. Smoke pot.. Whatever.. Not so sure God is all that concerned about most of those except the truth that the fruit of the Spirit is moderation..
But, this cannot be said about adultery, fornication, theft, fraud, etc.. heroin, etc..!
Just my :2c: I also think mark train is somewhat right.. I think we do look for peace and security - a sort of 'nesting' which ultimately can only be satisfactorily fulfilled in Him.. And seeking it both for our self and also for others.. Seeking to pass it on.. Though the joy of the Lord is actually quite hard to give away? We would lavish it upon all we know if only they would understand and receive it? The greatest thing in the world.. Such joy, such peace- no matter circumstances- yet the hardest thing to actually give away..(?) (Or so it is right now? Or that is, usually?) :gsmile: God bless!

I personally think it is inaccurate to say that Christians are under NO law. We aren't under the Law of Moses, but we are still under a Lord and the Lord does have commandments for Christians. I have posted this scripture recently, but I think it applies here too.
1 John 3
4Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 16This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. 22and (we) receive from him anything we ask,
because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.
23And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24The one who keeps God's commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.
To me, this makes it clear as crystal. Christians do have a law. And, you are so right Marie and amen to what you said, it has nothing to do with cigarettes, meat, beer, Sabbaths etc. It's "believe in Jesus, and don't be a jerk."
Granted, easier said than done, but that is why we have the Spirit to guide, remind, and chasten us, which is what Grace does (Titus 2:11). I like what John says there, "this is how we know what love is: Jesus died for us." Not: this is how we know what love is: Jesus had warm feelings for us." Love is an action and so is walking according to the Spirit.

Amen! I think it is a BIG mistake to think Christians have no laws or rules.. And are somehow 'free' to do those things which "lead to death"! Why would we want o do thAt?! To me, to truly "believe" is to follow.. And is to obey His instructions.
Actually, "the law" (of Moses) is not 'good' enough! It's not simply don't murder! It's love. "Love works no ill" and "is the fulfilling of the law".
Also amen, that love is an action, not simply a feeling or sentiment. Love seeks (surely?) to bless.. To understand.. Listen.. Share.. All the many things which truly caring for and about entails..
I love how John was often saying "little children, love one another". And others could tell the believers by their love for one another.. And their love and service toward those outside (not yet in) the faith.
God's ways are the best ways.. The ways of blessing and abundant life. To live a wayward and, or riotous life cannot lead to peace, joy and abundant life, but leads to death, dissatisfaction and ultimately depression, etc. "The wages of sin is death", not simply before we are saved but always.. Love fulfills the law and we love by walking in the Spirit.. Following the Spirit and led by the Spirit, not led by the inordinate (fallen, imperfect) desires of the lower/carnal (flawed, fallen, imperfect) nature the KJ calls 'the flesh'. "Who will deliver me from my own flawed self and nature"? Praise be to God.. Jesus sets free (to follow the Spirit).. Sin is bondage, not freedom.

The law is a shadow of that love, and we have the "It is written" to stir us up by way of reminder concerning what the new nature, the nature of love, is.
Where love is, the witness to those commands is written upon tablets of human hearts, as is the discernment of what is shadow, and what is "Christ in you the hope of glory"- in the grace of God, in "faith, hope and love", in the mind of Christ and the divine nature...
