Title: Nathan
Post by: redhotmagma on May 07, 2011, 04:25:10 AM
the post is locked, so I just wanted to say that I am greatly blessed by your posts (Nathan as the title implies).  I never want less discussion, we all are seeking the truth, and sometimes we need to clang swords to sharpen the iron (I know you always talk about turning swords into plowshares :happy3:).  I'd like you to continue to be active on here.

I'm equally blessed by the rest of you too.  The two "sides" are just speaking different languages. (btw I'm not taking "sides" in Tent's lovers quarrel, just wanted to throw this out there)

I thought of posting earlier, thanks for starting this rhm.

I really think all "sides" should have a voice.  We all see things differently, and when shared the "right" way (without judging, sounding too teachy/preachy, personal insulting, etc.)  can all learn from each other - if we will.   :2c:

There comes a time when what ever you say or however you present it, you just cause offence- so one questions what value is there  sharing with others-- the time your given may be better used elsewhere    :icon_flower:

BE BLESSED   :icon_flower:

There comes a time when people understand that a message is best spread when staying on-topic.
If the conversation is about tennis it's annoying/impolite to constantly try to switch the subject to golf. No matter how insightful/deep the knowledge of golf is.

The other thing about tennis is that it has rules. While some are discussing the rules others just start playing tennis. Without knowing (all) the rules it may turn out they aren't playing tennis at all.

Another thing that makes spreading a certain message a waste of time is not adapting to the audience.
While university level math is of a vastly higher level than junior school math it's a complete waste of time teaching it to a 6 year old.
In fact the six year old benefits from the lower level but gets confused by the higher level. Possibly so much even the understanding of the lower level math fades away.

I agree with that. I would like give the mods something to consider. Reevaluate the sections the forum has. Most posts somehow end up in the wrong section because there is so much overlap between the sections. I'm aware a perfect forum layout is impossible but this thread can/should be considered as a strong hint for some changes imo...

It's a undeniable fact that some people want to discus literal things like calculating something. Others only want exclusively spiritual chats.
I want literal chats to find patterns that match with deeper things (for example literal harvests that are really about people)
So the idea I would like to give the mods for consideration is making sections with those viewpoints in mind.
Threads can stay more on topic (moderation) so all benefit.

Almost exactly what I was thinking in the past 24 hours but wasn't sure how to do it.  I thought about making some sort of division about more "spiritual"/symbolic topics, but a thought is, I'm not sure people would really respect the divisions, as well as, as you say, there IS so much overlap, if we all "minded our manners" we could either still comment on the same threads from each of our own perspectives, OR, just don't comment [much] on a particular thread if others are carrying on just fine without our input  :laughing7:.

Let me think about it.  As Gary wants the boards so focused on UR, I'd probably need to run it by him anyway.   :idea2:  It may be that moderation just needs to be stepped up some, stepping in and reminding folks to respect others' opinions, to not "preach/teach" AT others (i.e., don't keep harping on our own POV, telling others how THEY need to see it - state it and move on) GIVING EACH OTHER ROOM TO FUNCTION IN OUR CAPACITY WITH OUR OWN STRENGTHS, AND THEREFOR GROW TOGETHER - HELPING EACH OTHER.  What a concept!!   :icon_joker:

We can explore it more.

True. But trying will bring some improvement.

Both the literal and spiritual (and everything in between) are/can be UR focused.
I think having both gives a stronger UR support than having just one of them.
It proves the skeptics that UR can be found with many approaches. Not just one word twisting angle.

I'll go one better . . . I'll just back away from the boards all togther and you guys can be free without my interrupting the topic.
Nathan

I didn't mean for you not to post, I do value your opinion and I'm sure wings does too even with the various differences of scriptural interpretation, I appreciate symbolic truth, just not as much as you and a few others, and you have witnessed myself willing to discuss symbolism with you and others but its good to appreciate the work of people like wings who research and find information for the brethren and for Gods kingdom to utilize as they see fit.

But what I meant was that I was looking for an answer to wings post too see if anyone had info on a man of sin who existed during that time period. I didn't want the mainline symbolists to post because I already knew what they were going to say and it would just result in the thread going off topic, as I predicted, into a battle over the doctrinal meaning over the scripture, instead of being a discussion about the possible findings that wings had possibly discovered, concerning a widespread falling away of christian faith during 31- 60 AD. CHB had the gist of it by posting a relevant link, about the historical connections. Hence this is a UR forum at liberty to discuss these type of things, without the implied criticism. I accept that criticism is part of life and we all need to grow and learn new things, but as you have noted I think your criticism in this aspect was not needed.

I find all the ideas put forth good and sound. Staying on a topic is difficult to say the least, also to me(this is just me) there is doctrine teaching. The Lord spent a good deal of time getting me out of man doctrine.

" As Gary wants the boards so focused on UR" (Jabcat) Yeah its me again.
I find that desire to be troublesome, now with absolutly no offence in mind or typed letter, for me to focus on UR, as what this forum is about, then I find staying away from one of the taboo subjects "free will" is quite difficult. If(as I believe) that Jehovah God is going to reconcile all men to Himself...attempting to state how the Holy Spirit is working all things through God to do that. Without the Will of God being the sovereign Will; but yet to keep in mind that man has a free will, and that man has and does continue to overrule God's Will with man's will, such as chosing to go to a place of ET/ED or that man had a choice in Gen.2:17.
Peace and Love

:sigh: Haven't had time to be here, so don't know what the fuss is about, but would really like to say I hope NO ONE leaves and EVERYONE continues to share. One man's junk is another man's treasure, and this is no different; the key is to not take offense whether you're in the "junk camp" or the "treasure camp".  :laughing7: Peace

Nathan has been a great blessing to me on the boards and through PMs.  I truly appreciate his presence here.

As for taboo subjects and what not.  I understand admins wanting to stay away from subjects due to history of conflict.  If members had engaged in healthy debate over these subjects it would have never been an issue.  Considering the owner pays the bills and this is a free community to members, Gary gets to call the shots.  If he wants this site UR focused then that needs to be respected.  This site has been a great blessing to me.  And one of the reasons, is because most members here engage in kind, helpful and respectful debate.  If staying away from certain subjects encourages this kind of environment then I'm all for it.

Edit-after I wrote this I read through the locked post.  It appears that some wrote about how they see scripture and others got their feelings hurt.  It wasn't ugly, just tense.  Knowing the way Nathan looks at things and the way some others look at thing there is bound to be disagreement.  That won't be avoided.

I hope he decides to come back.  But, his presence is a terrific balance within this community.

Am I to understand that Nathan has left the forum? That is a great loss and I feel that if it is so, it is only for a time, Nathan had good posts. :dontknow:

I agree.  I didn't always see things the same way Nathan did but I do respect his beliefs and did enjoy reading his post. I did agree with a lot of what he had to say. Hope he continues posting. It always is sad when someone leaves, or is banned for whatever reason.  :sigh:
