As with everything, the "right answer" is probably going to be based on what kind of games we're specifically talking about, what you're going through, and where you're trying to get to.  If everybody gives you the two thumbs up on it and it turns out to be totally full of hardcore black magic, then that wouldn't be the least bit cool.  But a lot of Christians will pounce on a story having a wishing well in it, or a dragon, or whatever and say that you're going to hell for it.  Use your own best judgment weighing the "how much" with the "how seriously to take the intent of the creators of the game" with the "what have you got going on in your life where the gray area might introduce additional spiritual warfare into your life from something so innocent looking and you're not seeing the source of additional emotional pressure or additional whatever happening in your life that's beyond probability, chance, etc., etc."

Where a lot of Christians miss it is that some things are 100% cool at certain times of your life when at other times of you're life they're 100% to be avoided at absolutely all costs, and as Jesus said, even if it meant self mutilation to get rid of it.  To me, that's where both the absolute prudes and the absolute liberty folks both have a tendency to miss it.  Perhaps God's never said anything to them about it and has virtually left them a green light about it 'cause they're not dealing with a vulnerability in areas that someone else would be dealing with them in where God has to say an absolute "Hell NO!!"

I threw away absolutely all of my movies as recently as a couple of years ago because too much was going on and during that season, I had to have every single syllable, hum, hint of a breath, etc., besides every Word proceeding from the mouth of God.  I threw away Batman Begins, Superman Returns, Grumpier Old Men, Anger Management, Analyze That, Barber Shop and stacks and stacks and stacks of additional movies on all areas of the spectrum as far as how many Christians would object to the individual items of the collection.

I haven't rebuilt my movie collection since, although since about summer of last year, it probably would have been 100% cool to have bought new copies of most of that stuff.  It did clear the air and qualify as a type of a fast that helped me press into God further and I heard some radical, but absolutely true Words from God at the close of 2007.  But mid-2006, I'd of never guess that I'd of tossed more than a couple of the movies that I owned at the time.  But you do what you've got to do when you've really gotta hear from God and sometimes, it's time to fully pull away from television and other things.  I'd of never gone to hell, experienced punishment or condemnation over 99% of the movies that I ditched.  But for me, they kept me too noisy on the inside at a season of my life when I had to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that my spiritual receiver was hearing the right voice and because of the nature of the decisions being made at that time, there was zero margin for error because of where I've wanted to be in life by when.

I will rebuy most of the movies that I ditched, and probably at lower prices since they're older movies now.  But other things are first right now and I'm not rushing out to do it, unless something growing in my life comes to harvest any time soon and I've suddenly got all of the money to do absolutely all of the things that I could ever want to do without having to juggle anything priority-wise with the exception of my time to make sure everything's according to His Will.  I got what I wanted from Him through that extra time devoted to Him, and there was no magic spell or magic bullet involved in having tossed the movies by themselves.  I could have been pouting this whole time about no movies, or have diverted money from other more important projects to rebuy my collection.

What counted was my time with Him and what was coming to me during that year as I was pressing through about a few matters.  There were many days during that year [of 2007] that I was speaking in other tongues for 18hrs to 24hrs straight one day without eating, drinking, sleeping, etc., and then spending the following day shouting the interpretation in English, believing I received when I prayed, etc.  And I can say without a doubt, that I got 100% of everything that I prayed that year, as well as the interpretation and renewal of my mind about some things, and some knowledge of God's plan for my life that I wouldn't trade for anything.  There is no easy 'yes' or 'no' on the subject of magic in video games.

You've got to analyze what's going on with your own mind, will, emotions, and sanctification with God.  There are few simple 'yes' and 'no' answers about a whole bunch of this stuff that didn't exist the first several thousand years of human existence that even if you can find a Bible prophecy to kinda indicate it's having come into being in our day, the Scriptures don't always tell you what God's mind is regarding this or that that it anticipates in one of the prophets.  You've got to analyze everything by what's going on in your relationship with God.  Not somebody else's.

No, I don't think it's wrong, particularly since the "magic" used in video games, at least all the ones I've played, aren't actually used by anyone in real life.  They are simply creations to help boost the gameplay in games such as Final Fantasy.  If you really want to ask these kinds of questions, I'm sure the folk over on the Christian Anime Alliance forums can help you, too.  They've got a video game section for Christian gamers, but beware that a number of them are Fundamentalists and may be skeptcal of you if you out yourself as a Universalist on the first post.

I couldn't have bet against you on that since I pretty much figured about the same when I saw the title of this thread.  Some Churches will say it's all cool based on Colossians 2, others will say that it's never cool and cite many Scriptures that they'll interpret to what your witness appears like to others, and there's every shade in between on that.  But unless it's 100% obvious that it's [a particular game] stepping across too many lines, then it's going to be an individual call with each person on what messes with them and what they've got going on with the Lord and in their calling and sanctification.  The Scriptures give general principles regarding these kinds of things, i.e., avoiding addictive behaviour, etc., but much of what will work for each individual, each couple, each family, each congregation, or whatever is going to be trial and error.  Many things will come down to each person saying "I can't go there and have peace" or "I can't go there and have self control," et. al.

I think a game in whatever shape or form is ok.
It's a fantasy world. It are just dead pixels. When you kill someone the pixels get recycled  :happy3:
If such a game would be wrong then most action movies are banned too. Much voilence and killing in them.
Or all horror movies when the dead rise from their graves.
But also all movies with Jesus in them. The actor in that movie is 'an image of what is in Heaven'

AO just sit down for a moment and write down all kind of things and all possible twisted, far fetched links to how it possibly could be wrong. I bet you will find proof even this forum is 'clearly' condemened in the Bible.
1 Timothy 2:3-4  ...God our Savior;  Who will have all men to be saved...
John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous ...

Everything is lawful, but not everything is profitable. Everything is lawful, but I will not be mastered by anything.

If it's mastering you/ distracting you from God, throw it away or put it away until (and if) God says it's OK again.

LOL; I heard the other day there's even an Anime bible now...

hmmmm,  I can see how that fundamentalist forum crowd may not like the concept of a video game where you couldn't smite a civilization to eternal hell for not serving you as you play God in game.  lol

that happened to me. I gave up video games, but not long afterwards, I got an eating disorder  I'm sure that's NOT why God intended me to give up video games!

Right on Paul, I can just close my eyes and hear all the preaching and screaching going on in some of the churches over anyone playing video games, in fact I heard a
tele tube evangilist preaching hell fire and damnation coming upon all those who participate in such things, that is all religious hog wash preaching plain and simple.

Peace,

So, Pacman isn't the devil?
Donkey Kong isn't the beast?
And Frogger isn't the false prophet?
Galaga isn't the bottomless pit?

Ive always seen it as ...if it doesnt hinder your relationship with God or cause you to have negative thoughts its probably just fine lol

I play world of warcraft where theres alot of "magic" elements going on but I personally have never had the urge to break out a witch bible and start casting spells upon myself/others...hah

it all comes back to you and God though...if you feel deep down like God doesnt want you to...then dont. But lets not be legalists about what type of entertainment we should/shouldnt enjoy

IceDash

I play castlevania, did I turn to evil or hate god even more...
