(Lev 23:40) And you shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days.
The above combined/bound together is called a Lulav. Hebrew for palm.
According to Jewish tradition the four plants represent:
Goodly tree = Citron = Good taste + good aroma = Good Torah knowledge + good works = Heart --> Understanding and wisdom
Palm tree = Palm = Good taste + no aroma = Good Torah knowledge + no good works = Spine --> Rightousness or stiff necked
Thick tree = Myrtle = No taste + good aroma = No Torah knowledge + good works = Eye --> Enlightment and lust
Willows = Willow = No taste + no aroma = No Torak knowledge + no good deeds = Mouth -> prayers and blasphemy
All 4 bound together will archieve salvation. The willows will learn from the other tree.
The eye made me think of the good and bad eye. Generous and stingy.
(Mark 8:24) And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
