Hi everyone
We are planning on naming our third child Jude (it means praise)...
But the book of Jude isn't my favorite. Can anyone put a UR perspective on this book of the Bible?
Seems Jude is actually pointing out much of the course of history in a concise summation.
vs 4 " Men who were long ago designated for this condemnation men who turn grace into an excuse for blatant immorality "
- Ergo appointed role play. Many churches are doing that now- people led astray by so called leader- ministers of righteousness.
Then goes through the history of Sodom and Gomorrah as an example of sexual immorality consequences.
Then gives the example of how modern teachers are using supposed signs to claim authority to lead the people but are shown, through the picture of "waterless clouds swept along by the wind" , to be of no real value.
Vs 17 " But remember what the Lord said-
" in the last days there will be scoffers driven by their own ungodly desires."
Vs 19 " Worldly minded and devoid of Spirit."
I.M.O we seem to be in those last days.
This could all seem negative- but for me is pointing out the error of mans' ways, the distraction of self-effort.
The glorious promise as a conclusion secures our position.
Vs 24,25 " Now to Him WHO IS ABLE TO KEEP YOU FROM STUMBLING,
AND TO STAND IN HIS GLORIOUS PRESENCE WITHOUT BLAME AND WITH GREAT JOY.
To the only God our saviour,
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
belong glory, majesty, power, and authority,
BEFORE time,
NOW,
AND FOR ALL THE AGES."
Jude must have been able to see the whole picture for mankind to point out the format which man follows as we learn good from evil.
Knowing all will be saved seems to show this as a necessary process to grasp the depth of the plan.
The letter of Jude reminds me of "genuineness" - verse 3 - "...I had to write to you! Exhorting you to contend earnestly" (the Greek being "from epi and agónizomai) "for the faith having been delivered once for all to the saints." -- To earnestly desire and hang onto the original "Glad Tidings" which we know was UR!
from verse 4 "For certain men came in stealthily.." (the greek, "came in alongside" - eternal torment stealthily came in alongside the true Glad tidings!) - In Jude's day it was "perverting the grace of our God into a license for immorality and denying Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord." Which was very likely the gnostics who claimed Jesus could not have come in the flesh, as all flesh/matter was evil - as opposed to the biblical application which is the flesh as the lower carnal character (not the body :laughing7: like it was all God's 'mistake'?!). They thought since everything done with, and in, the flesh and blood body was evil, well what the hey, might as well fornicate (which of course was a base of pagan worship! So I suppose it could have been even worse! what stealthily came alongside.) Other gnostic sects were veRy (overly) aesthetic and strict. But it seems like the license crowd gained ground over the overly aesthetic. (According to late letters, like Jude and the letters to churches in Revelation.)
Since gnosticism, before Jesus was "a loose connection/collection of pagan esoteric" elements of the other world religions, I figure it evolved into the pagan beliefs we know of as 'hell' and eternal torment, etc.
So still, the need to "contend earnestly".. And the verses about such stealthy ones being judged, etc, we know is "aionian".. So even our Lord's greatest 'enemies'.. wiill be reconciled.. other wise it wouldn't be "ageduring" or "of a duration"..
23 "but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire" the fire of falsehood, error and its results.. obviously having nothing to do with an afterlife of torment..
Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling,
And to present you faultless
Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,
25 To God our Savior,
Who alone is wise,
Be glory and majesty,
Dominion and power,
Both now and forever.
Amen!

Amen! Letting this imperfection run its course (and so utterly fail).. I think is "necessary" ...and I'm reminded how Jude said Sodom and Gomorrah's judgment is an example of 'eternal' fire..
So where's the flames? And Jesus said they would be there on judgment 'day' (Sodom and Gomorrah).. So, that they are no longer there, is also not 'forever/unending'...

Beautiful name , for your beautiful child :HeartThrob:
I dont know a lot about this letter of Jude GodIsLove
We know all the scriptures must be fulfilled , reconciling it with UR .
I liked Ross and Maries answers .
I believe it is just confirming as a witness the prophecy of Daniel as well in the chapters of 10 , 11 , 12 . and how to keep on, keeping on , to the end ..
I noticed the love of many is chilling at this time , that love being an on fire for God and warm, friendly brotherly love it seems , we are told to keep those fires burning , to me ,cold means spiritually dying out ... like a star that looses its Light and strength [Which is from GOD ] and becomes a chunk of cast down stone that falls to the earth .
Lots of exposure of corruption and sinful nature going on on the media more than ever .
Society is taking away freedoms like never before seen , Just like Pharaoh making slaves of the Hebrew nation of long ago ... same slaves to sinful desires of the highly in power over the peoples masses .
Many many countries are pushing for the one world order sneaky and underhandedly , but they are exposing them to the Light like never before , if you are paying attention to this ...temporary world .
Seems all the power of the holy ones will be broken , just as it was when Jesus died on the cross and all those were scattered to their own places , It looked to mans eyes as if God had forsaken the Lord on that cross ,
but nothing could be further from the truth . He become the head of the corner stone and building up GODS KINGDOM without end .
In Gods infinite Wisdom , He has hidden His plan from the ages from mankind and given it to the Spiritual babies ,
to grow in truth and grace by the Holy Sprint teaching them .
God will give them His wisdom to understand and some fall, but God will help them , they will will rise up in Life better than before[better resurrection than that of Abels / breath of life ] to be able to help others and make them all understand and shine like bright stars in a dark place , because the Light/CHRIST is with them ,
the Truth will set us free from the darkness of ignorance and the Holy Spirit and fire will cleanse us and purge out the dross , refining and making a pure and Holy nation that has been being built from the foundation of the world , that has been hidden from the world that does not know God ,
whom is LOVE as well as a SPIRIT of consuming Fire....... just my thoughts without all the scriptures ..
For me, Jude the brother of James continues by the same Spirit of prophecy [testimony of Jesus Christ ,just as Daniel did , the WORD OF GOD /incorruptible seed made flesh [within us ], what is written , will be heard and what is heard ,will be lived out though the power of Gods Word of Life by the Spirit of Life itself .
that cannot be consumed by the fire but actually reflects and magnifies the GLORY OF GOD within it continually .. We must keep this HOPE alive believing GOD above all else .:HeartThrob:

Amen Rosie! (what beautiful writing!)
You mentioned Abel.. and it made me think.. poor Abel, life cut so short.. The life span was so long back then! But he was the first to mortally die.. and by murder!
What does that tell us about the present human condition of the carnal character? And that sort of pinpoints to me what the letter of Jude is.. Like Obadiah in the Old Testament it's a summing up. Basically, I guess, truth is simple and can be summed up in one brief chapter.
It says to me, would it be loving, kind, or merciful of God to let humans simply live forever in their carnal selfish nature? :faint: I mean if we didn't perish, it would surely descend (mature) into 'living hell'.
So ultimately, Jude, the letter, means mercy! Rightness (righteousness/justice). And how better for all to fully learn this (wrong way = living hell, ultimately) than to let it play out as God's living truth drama. So the letter Jude, to me also means truth. (It's kind of a tough lesson.. but unavoidable? Or simply is the BEST way..?)

Isn't there a verse something about truth being the spirit of prophecy? I have to google that..
Berean Literal Bible
And I fell before his feet to worship him. And he says to me, "See that you not do this. I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers, holding the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."
great post Rose :gsmile:

Thank you for sharing yours too sis Marie !!
I agree with cutting the time of our flesh short , is GODS MERCY!! His wrath is for a moment
satan has a short time , Jesus cuts it short in righteousness ... Yet His Word and Spirit of Life just keeps going without end ... love always in Him :HeartThrob:
Thanks everyone!
I just re read through all of the responses and they helped a lot!
