Correction. What I mean to say, is she is not a Universalist who knows confesses to being a "Christian" Universalist because she may not realize there is "Christian" universalists out there. I didn't mean that as a slight to her. I realized afterwards how that looked.
She's not even third cousin to a Biblical Universalist! She's a new ager, plain and simple.
Yeah, I've got to make the same type of correction to my first post on this thread that Craig made to his post. He worded it perfectly for brevity. I'd just get long-winded, so I'll echo essentially the same wording, although I'll modify along the way to my own situation with this post, of course:

I've just had such a full plate recently with so much stuff [to say and do] that it took me longer than Craig to realize how I'd made my comment.
She wasn't being literal when she was talking about paths to God. She was using "God" as a metaphor for happiness; she didn't fully realize she was talking to a fundamentalist Christian.
She apparently lives Christianity better than she talks correct religious doctrine.

Absolutely. The true good religion is one who looks after the poor, homeless and widow. Nothing actually wrong with Opera's position where she said that someone who never heard of Christ, is still going to heaven if they have done what Jesus had taught. She absolutely hit it on the head when she said that God looks at the heart and not if someone believes in Jesus.

BTW, from what I've read, and heard on xm radio......Oprah considers herself a Christian and was raised Baptist - she spent much of her childhood speaking in her church.....
I guess you are right martin....you could accurately say she is new age......but more of a new age christian. I've read
New Earth, which Oprah promotes in a big way, and listened to many of the online talks from the author......anyway...I definitely think that the book promotes Christianity in a new way. The reason I believe that many are uncomfortable with this, is because it's a huge break away from tradition. But lets face it people like Oprah are planting little "idea seeds" for the generations to come......and maybe for the next generations of mankind.......Christian Universalism will not seem so far fetched, and it will become a Big Reality in the minds of people all around the globe.

A friend of mine began talking about Oprah and 'New Earth' very negatively. She basically said Oprah was a tool of satan because what she says sound 'pretty', but doesn't lift up Jesus, and therefore is deceitful and manipulative. And I know in her mind, Oprah is the tool to usher in the anti-Christ in the end-times.
For some reason this type of speaking grieves my heart. Why can't we rejoice in the positive things she does? Why does it have to be about a doctrine or creed? I don't agree with everything she 'believes', but from what I can discern, her heart is Christ-ward. I rejoice in the tool of her ministry to expose dark deeds and rejoice in goodness.

I soooo agree Sarah! :HeartThrob: I've learned to check things out for myself now.....instead of just listen to what others say. The Spirit of God will speak to us and reveal all Truth.....there is really no need to be fearful about people....especially those like Oprah who have a platform to speak from. I now try to think of how God can use each person for good.......

That's why I had to abandon that premillenialism crap. I still believe in the possibility of a "tribulation" and all of that, but there's something about thinking that you're going to hop the next celestial bus out of here and give the world the finger on the way up that makes people so incredibly Pharisaical. I'd pick Oprah's company over that kind of Christian's company ANY DAY. Oprah's done more positive things in the behalf of humanity, probably this week alone, that the Pharisee ever will in an entire life time that's just pointing the self righteous finger at her just 'cause she's not a Bible thumper on every episode of her program. And she does her best not to deliberately alienate people, but has on guests on her program that are entertaining, informative, and uplifting for most of the viewing audience. That's a difficult balance to acheive, to be a person with strong core principles, as she obviously is, and to find something to offer everyone. If Eternal Hell could be proven to be absolutely true, inspite of the Bible's declarations otherwise and the clarity that it brings to the subject correctly translated, rightly divided, and Holy Spirit revealed, you still could not prove to me that you've successfully extrapolated from that that every Christian is supposed to be an additional Billy Graham or Louis Pallau when you've got a Bible that talks about the different parts of the One Body, each having it's own contribution to make. I don't want my last comment to be taken as not being very loving of Oprah. I love her. She's great. I only agree with the fundamentalists regarding her up to the point that I'll say along with them that she's not a fundamentalist. And if they want to pick up stones, I'm sure that our Lord Jesus has a Word or two to say about that that they won't want to hear any more than His first audience wanted to hear it :icon_king:
