Title: ignorance
Post by: sven on May 21, 2009, 04:35:56 PM
I was invited into a (German) Christian forum, I don't know why, I had discussed about hell and universalism with a Christian woman in another forum and she invited me there.

to make it short, these people are completely ignorant, always quoting the same verses, especially Mark 9:43-48, I wrote a longer post, explaining them Gehenna, yet, the next user posts the very same verse, I can't understand this - they only believe in hell because of their ignorance and bad knowledge, but how can they be so ignorant, I don't understand this.

Ask them how they can post messages without hands and eyes....

There's only one answer: its God's will.

I too run into this all the time.  They quote a "hell" scripture.  You then give a long detailed explanation of what the scripture means, showing supporting scripture, explaining how scripture can't contradict scripture...

Then they just quote the same scripture again.

It can be frustrating, but its in God's plan.

But that's irrelevant.  Don't you know fire is always literal in the bible?  How else would there be a hell if the fire wasn't literal?

Sorry almost forgot that :-)

Sven,
I'm sure your explanation was good. But likely also lenghty. People only read then partly.
Or perhaps they do understand a little of it and get confused why it 'contracticts' their own fire verses.
Or your explanation is just seen as human reasoning.
Therefore it may be best to strike back with powerful verses they can't just deny.
For example the verses shown below. Ask them if it's literal fire.
If they answer no: You have presented the first proof that fire isn't always literal. (and much more verses show fire is not literal)
If they answer yes: Ask if that means that people that goto hell get out of it because the verse speaks about something positive. Even an ET wouldn't claim that away from God in hell is positive.

Mark 9:49  For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.
Mark 9:50  but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

so right, but however, one comfort, there are often this silent readers, not saying anything, but reading and understanding, I got once a PM in a German forum where something thanked me for explaining Gehenna, he himself was an Universalist, but could not reconcile some verses with it, though he believed in universalism, I was glad to have helped him, and to see there are more having similar views.

those wo suffer from this doctrine, they might read, the others maybe we can't change.

I completely agree brother... I have been a member of an ET forum for 3 years, and have thoroughly presented refutation of HELL to them, ...doesn't "phase" them in the least...

Why? ...Cuz only GOD can reveal... and it is just not "their time" to see...

JESUS spoke plainly to the Pharisees, and they did not "see" what He said, because the WORDS the Lord spoke were SPIRITUAL and PARABOLIC, and these cannot be understood by the carnal mind... Understanding is only born when the assistance of GOD is given, and then, ...there is even more there to be learned later...

How many times have you found an "understanding" of a verse, only to find MORE later in the very same WORDS?  And the "new" understanding, did not dispense with the previous one?  :mshock:  The WORD is amazing!

Willie, that was a great answer in my book! It spoke volumes to me. Thanks.
