Title: He will guide you into all truth
Post by: tim_za on September 16, 2008, 03:20:29 PM

(2Ti 4:3)  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

Mat 18:7  Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!

I think that verse you quoted in 1 Timothy is interesting in that it reminds me of the verse that says not to listen to any other doctine even if it comes by an angel.

The person quoting the verse always assumes that they began in the truth, but haven't considered that they could be in a false doctrine. Those they perceive as having 'itching ears' could be being led out of deception.

I always thought it an irony that offences must come, but the one whom they come by is woe'd into eternal torment by some. Personally, I see the woe as consequences and suffering, just not eternal and for the sake of inflicting pain.
