falling over with holy spirit.

HI guys.  wondering what your thoughts are on this.  I went to see a pastor who came to visit my town.  at the end of the couple hours he had people line up and he prayed the fire of god on people and everyone was falling over.  It was my turn and sure enough I fell over and felt filled with the holy spirit.  I have also seen this a lot from benny hinn and others.  Is this in the bible anywhere?  where people fall over?  Have you seen this happen with people in UR churches?  Becuase I thought because christians are not open to the UR concept it holds the holy spirit back a bit from full power.  But that seemed pretty full power to me!!!  Are there miriclaes and healings happening in the UR community???

There is no record of "being slain in the spirit" anywhere in the Bible. IMO, It is a great visual for TV preachers and speaking as a former certified hypnotherapist, you experienced a form of mass hypnosis. People standing in line fell because they had seen it done or experienced it before and "getting in line" at all was your "acceptance and preperation" for what was about to happen. Even if you hadn't seen it prior to the event, just watching all the others before you heightened your susceptibility to do "what was expected" of you. It also gives the preacher that "aura" of being closer to God or knowing God better than you do.

I don't mean to put down or demean the experience you had. It was very, very real to you and I hope you profit from it spiritually.
I just know these things "pull in the crowds"=money and there is no mention of it anywhere in the Bible.
BTW, there have been a couple of deaths from this practice. People falling back and hitting their head on the pew. (This is why they have "catchers" in a line.) Otherwise, the spirit could be sent out over the crowd all at once and "slay in the spirit" all present wherever they are.
Unfortunately unlike the person that fell asleep and fell out the window (Note: he was not "slain in the spirit - he simply fell asleep.)from the upper room when Paul was preaching, the people that died from hitting their head were literally slain and not brought back to life . :Peace2:

For me this "falling over in the spirit or being slain in the spirit" is a doctrine taught of a denomination.
Just as one is baptized in the holy spirit, "with the evidence of speaking in tongues." it is a denominational teaching.
It is a sorry thing but there are more denominations to chose from than used car lots. Kick a tire, take it for a spin, runs great, honestly. My  :2c: :HeartThrob:

I agree it could be mass hypnotism, or whatever, but I can't lie, i was filled with peace of the holy spirit, it was my awakening to follow down the path of jesus and the bible.  anyways, its interesting.

Like I said, it was good for you. Just as at the end of each hypnosis session, the person would be instructed to feel waves of peace and joy gently washing through them when they were leaving the hypnotic state. (I don't say awakened cuz you're not really asleep.) Hypnosis is merely being in a state of heightened suggestibility. Even Billy Graham admitted that much of what they did was hypnosis. People see others getting up out of their seats, going forward, being blessed, head bowed, eyes closed, soft music, only the words of the preacher seem important and what he suggests to you becomes real.
I am not denying in anyway you had a very real experience. ..and it's possible the Holy Spirit was even there and working on your heart, your experience is your experience and never let anyone tell you your relationship to God is not real.

I love the words of an old rock song, "He can't even run his own life. I'll be damned if he'll run mine."

Well I guess the one thing that helps me belive it was real becuase he did pray to GOD in jesus' name for the fire of god to come on me.  so ?  ho could it not be?

Again musicman, I am not denying or belittling your experience in any way but TV preachers/crooks always pray to God in Jesus name - they appear as angels of light when they are wolves in sheeps clothing.

Test the spirit, make sure it is true, do not let someone that has the "magic formula of words" decieve you. Just because someone says words that sound legit, it doesn't mean they necessarily are. Remember the heart is deceitful above all things and not to be trusted so don't let your feelings confuse you. Observe yourself over the next few days. Are you more aware of things that need changing or behaviors that need modifying? Is it easier to talk to God? Do you have more love in your heart for others? Are you more grateful for all Christ has done for you? Are you convicted of any sin in yor life that you weren't previously? Trust that the Bible says that the Holy Spirit will take up residence in you at your invitation and God cannot lie. If you invited, he is there in you. The seal of the promise.

Music, you may, if you are of a mind, go back and see if the same people do it again.  I was in a church for a while where is was a badge of honour to be slain in the spirit, so some people did it again, and again, and again.  It became their thing.  I don't belittle it, if it works for you cool.  In some cases however, I've seen people actually use it to confirm that some people are more worthy than others:  that part was not cool
